10 Prayers to Pray for Your Child’s Teacher

Debbie McDaniel

As another school year begins, there’s nothing more important we can do as parents than to pray – for teachers and for our schools. Prayer is powerful; and praying God’s word over those we love and appreciate is a wonderful gift that has eternal rewards. May God help us to be faithful to lift up every educator and teacher who is a part of our family and our kids’ lives this year.

A huge thank you to all teachers, for your hearts, devotion, and love for our children. As parents, we are so grateful for you, and our words may not always fully express what we feel inside. We appreciate all that you do, so often behind the scenes where no one even sees. Know that you are loved and valued by many. You are an amazing gift to our kids, families, and this world!

God’s blessings over you this new school year ahead.

10 Prayers for Teachers

Pray for Peace Over the School Day:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus…the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:6-7, 9)

Dear God,

We pray for your peace and covering over this day and for the whole year ahead. We thank you in advance for all that you have in store for every teacher, every child, and every classroom in our schools. We ask that you unfold great blessings and gifts in the coming days, that this would long be remembered as a year you worked in amazing ways, on behalf of every person we’re praying for. And when anxiety or pressures start to rise, please surround every teacher in your constant care and security, knowing that it’s your peace that will guard their hearts and minds in you.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Pray for Trust in God:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Dear God,

Thank you for your great faithfulness and the confidence we can have that you are fully trustworthy. Please give our teachers the ability to trust you more in every circumstance they may encounter this year, even when things seem uncertain, or out of their control. And in the moments when they feel like there’s just not enough time to do all they need to accomplish,  we ask that you would multiply their hours and give success to their efforts, for we know that you are able to do much more in a day that we ever could work out all on our own.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Pray for Purpose and Vision in Teaching:

“The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24)

Dear God,

We pray that you would remind each of our teachers of the incredible ability they have to make a difference in the life of a child, every single day. Give them fresh vision that what they do is so important, because they are a part of building greatness in our world through the next generation. Give them laughter and fun in every day, and encouragement in the times when they’re battling weariness or defeat. We pray that you would draw every teacher closer to you; and fill them with your Spirit each morning. Give them all that they need for each day Lord - your grace, your calling, your compassion and love.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Pray for Teacher's Wisdom:

“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” (Proverbs 31:25-26)

Dear God,

We ask for your wisdom and grace for our kids’ teachers as they prepare to lead their class each day. Equip them for every good work you have prepared ahead of time, we ask that your strength would fill them, that you would enable them to do all that they do with a heart of compassion and love that comes straight from you. Give them ability and effectiveness as they teach, fill them with creativity and passion for this very important role that you have called them to. We pray that you lead them by your Spirit in every decision that needs to be made, through preparation and planning, helping them to see every child through your eyes.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Pray for Help and Strength:

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap a harvest, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

Dear God,

We thank you that when we are weak, you are strong. Please give your help when teachers are tired, give grace when they feel they’ve reached the limit, give peace when they feel overwhelmed. Empower them by your Spirit with enough energy to match even the most active child in their class. Help them find strength in one another, reminding them that they are a team, and that there is greater power together to face every struggle and obstacle that may come their way. Thank you for the truth, that more than representing a job, or a school and district, every teacher who is a believer represents you. And because of this, your spirit and covering are brought to school every single day through each faith-filled teacher, administrator, and child.  Thank you for the power of your light and love that shines beautifully through our lives and schools, strengthening the weary, giving hope to every day.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Pray for Teacher's Courage:

“…Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

Dear God,

We pray that you would fill every teacher with your great courage and passion for this calling. Give them a heart shield to stand against negativity, to be able to withstand the obstacles and pressures of the day with stamina and grace. We ask for your fresh peace and power for every day. We believe that you are greater than whatever we may face and ask that you would surround our kids’ classrooms in your blessing today. We pray that you would give each teacher the boldness and courage to face even the toughest challenges, with the confidence and calmness that can only come from your Holy Spirit.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Pray for Protection:

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” (Psalm 91:1-2)

Dear God,

We ask for the power and protection of your presence over our schools this year, over every child, every teacher, every classroom. We know that you are mighty, and nothing can stand against you. Thank you Lord, that you are our refuge and strength, that we can rest in the shadow of your constant care. Please surround every teacher, bless their coming and going, protect their families, and personal lives in your care, providing abundantly for each need that they may have. Help them to release every concern and burden into your hands, believing confidently that you are with them, that you care, and that all things are possible through you.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Pray for Discernment in Teaching:

“And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.” (Philippians 1:9-10)

Dear God,

We pray for a spirit of discernment over our teachers for every child in their class, for every family scenario represented. Give them the heart to understand each one of them more deeply, and the ability to see them as you see them. Thank you Lord that you have great purpose in allowing every one of these paths and life stories to cross this year, and we ask that you would work powerfully through each one. May they be the love and light of Christ to those who are afraid or hurting, who need encouragement and hope. We thank you for your faithfulness to fill our teachers with your great wisdom and insight. Help them in their planning and leadership: give them organization in their classrooms, and your creativity in their teaching, so that every child can feel safe, supported, and can most effectively learn.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Pray for Encouragement for Teachers:

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

Dear God,

We pray for fresh hope today. Please fill these teachers with the love and light that only you can bring; and allow those gifts to flow freely through their lives in their classrooms and schools. Give your wisdom to embrace encouragement along the way and to give it away to others. Instill in us all, teachers and parents, a heart of learning this year, because we’re never too old to learn new things. Bring the freshness of your perspective to see life through the eyes of a child. Fill every educator with the constant reminder that they are deeply loved and valued by you. Help them to love and treasure every child, even the most difficult ones, by the power of your Spirit. Thank you that lives are being changed day by day, and you constantly fill us with your mercy and grace every morning.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Pray for Favor and Blessing:

“The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you, the Lord lift up his countenance on you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

Dear God,

We pray for your blessing and favor today over our teachers, our kids, and our schools. Please allow your face to shine on them today, be gracious to them Lord. Fill them with your Spirit and light; and give them peace in every circumstance. We know that every gift and blessing come straight from your hand. We will not take it for granted. Remind us today of your great love and care over all those we love. We thank you Lord that you work powerfully on our behalf, and we commit our ways to you. May each purpose and plan you have for our teachers, succeed, flourish, and prosper in every way.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
