We live in times of uncertainty, and it is getting worse every day. World, societal, and personal issues weigh us down daily, and it’s easy to get caught up in the stress of it all. In these times, the best thing we can do is find as much encouragement as we can. Where is the best place to find this? The Bible is the best place for us to find comfort and encouragement.
Finding Peace in God’s Promises
One thing we need to remember in these times of uncertainty is God’s promises to us. He promises He’ll never leave or forsake us, that He will give us peace that surpasses all understanding, and that He will hold us up with His victorious right hand.
Some of God’s promises that are a substantial source of peace are;
● He promises to be with us. His presence is felt.
● He promises to provide us with what we need. His provisions
● He promises to guide our steps. He promises to direct our steps.
● His strength. He helps us in our weakness.
One of my favorite verses that reminds me of God’s promises is;
“Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10, NLT)
Trusting God When the Path Is Unclear
When life and our path are unclear, our instinct is to seek control of our lives. We all want maps, deadlines, and guarantees, but more often than not, God only gives us enough light to see the next step we should take. Very rarely does he ever give us insight into the entire journey.
We all encounter times of uncertainty. A lost job, a change in relationships, or a door you hoped would open stays shut. This is frustrating, but it also reminds us that we build faith without seeing everything. We must trust what we don’t see and know that God is working in the background.
Here is a verse to remember when the path is unclear.
“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you, He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” (Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT)
Strength for Worrying Hearts
In times of uncertainty, worry can be a constant companion. It’s not loud, but rather a quiet hum in the background of our lives. We worry about the state of the world, the state of society, and our own personal problems like jobs, finances, and the people we love, like our family and friends.
However, having a worried heart is not a sign of weakness. It shows that you care deeply, think ahead, and feel intensely. The balance is not to stop caring but to find the strength to hold your concerns without being consumed by them. It’s not pretending everything is fine, but having the strength to stand when the world and our lives feel uncertain.
It’s easy to dismiss worry and tell ourselves we shouldn’t feel this way. But that doesn’t get us anywhere. Instead, we should first name the worry, which will help us separate from it rather than allowing it to define us. Being honest creates space for support and helps you label your worries. Is it a real problem, an imagined future, grief that needs resolving, or accumulated stress? Once we label our worries, it’s time to take action.
Next, we need to go to the Lord in prayer and dive into scripture to help deal with the worry in our lives. Reading a book or two about worry won’t hurt either. One of the best books I’ve read about worry is called Prayer Worrier by Jennifer Waddle. It’s about turning every worry into a prayer, and it’s a fantastic book. I highly recommend it.
One of my favorite verses about worry that always brings me peace is;
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” (Phillipians 4:6-7, NLT)
Hope When Tomorrow Feels Unknown
It’s easy to lose hope when tomorrow feels unknown. The weight of not knowing what comes next is exhausting. Anxiety fills the silence. We imagine worst-case scenarios. We replay past mistakes. Accepting that we can’t control everything is painful, but it can also be freeing, in knowing that we don’t have to handle it all. That’s what God is for: to help carry our burdens and guide us on our next steps. When you don’t know what tomorrow brings, and everything feels unknown, keep this verse in mind.
“This is my command: Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, NLT)
God’s Presence in Seasons of Fear
Fear is a universal experience that can come on like a storm or slowly build up to something unpleasant. When we are fearful, it’s easy for us to feel vulnerable and alone. However, the Bible tells us that God will not leave us or forsake us. God remains steady and always faithful, no matter what’s going on in our lives. Fear can make us feel like our lives are on fire, and we often wonder when it will end. In these times, we must remember;
“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fires of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” (Isaiah 43:2)
Courage to Take the Next Step
Sometimes God wants us to do something, and it’s hard to find the courage to take the next step. This could be going back to school, starting a new business, making amends in a relationship, etc. These things can feel daunting, but we know that if we want to grow and trust God, we need to take the next step. The best thing we can do is ask God for help and trust his guidance.
“I look up to the mountains-does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!” (Psalm 121:1-2, NLT)
Comfort in God’s Unchanging Word
People are born with a need for security. We want to know that our lives have meaning, that someone sees our pain, and that our future is not random. However, this is the last thing the world gives us, only the opposite of stability. All kinds of things can go wrong in our lives at any time. Careers come to an end. Health issues arise. Relationships can disappoint. Therefore, we need to remember that God is the same at all times. He’s not wishy-washy or changes his mind. He is the same yesterday, today, and always. Constant, unwavering, and always there for us. Just like his word. Always the same, never unchanging. This is why God’s word is so comforting.
“Your eternal word, O Lord, stands firm in heaven.” (Psalm 119:89, NLT)
Resting in God’s Perfect Timing
They say timing is everything, but it can also be very frustrating. So often we wait for something to change or move in our lives. Landing a new job. Working hard for a promotion. Saving for a big, needed purchase that feels like it’s taking forever. For example, saving for a new car because the one you have is on its last wheels. When we want something and things aren’t moving, it's easy to get annoyed. This is when we need to remind ourselves that God’s timing is not our timing, and if things worked out the way we want them to right now, it could lead to total disaster. Instead, we need to exercise patience and rest in the knowledge that God is working behind the scenes, even though we can’t see it.
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NLT)
Holding on to Hope Through Uncertainty
Despite the difficulty of holding onto hope when times are uncertain, we still have reason to believe that not all is lost. Pray and read your Bible; highlight verses that bring you peace and comfort, and remember that God is with you wherever you go. Better days are coming; you have to trust Him and let go.
