If you’ve ever attended an Easter service, you’ve likely heard Jesus’s last words on the cross: “I am thirsty,” and “It is finished.” Or maybe you can finish his charge to Peter: “Before the rooster crows, _______________.” Maybe you can even boast that you’ve read through the gospels several times and you’re well-acquainted with the words of Jesus. But have you ever held all 250+ Jesus quotes up against one another and zoomed out to examine their similarities?
Searching words or phrases in the Bible can reveal themes within Scripture and offer a different perspective. The phrase “Jesus said,” (and variations thereof) is no exception.
Reading Bible verses where Jesus speaks about faith, compassion, commands, and legalism helps believers better understand God’s heart and how to live with both truth and grace. These passages encourage deeper trust in God, greater love for others, and wisdom to recognize the difference between genuine obedience and empty religion.
May the glorious unfolding of God’s word blossom and flourish in our spirits as we hear Jesus speaking to us through His word.
