Hungry for God

Cindi Wood

From time-to-time, the Friday devotions will be written by one of our friends in ministry.  We call them our "Friday Friends."  So grab your Bible and a fresh cup of coffee and drink in the words from our "Friday Friend", Cindi Wood.

Today’s Truth

“Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You.”

Ps. 73:25

Friend to Friend

In a recent conversation with my daughter-in-law Meg, she commented, “I just haven’t been motivated lately to do my quiet time.” I loved her frankness. In fact, I’d had the same struggle but had not admitted it.

Well, let’s get motivated! Do you realize that God is longing for you to draw near to Him? And when you do, He’ll meet you right there. Draw near to God and He’ll draw near to you, James 4:8 tells us. In James 4:5, we learn that the spirit, who lives in us, yearns over us. Can you grasp it? God’s spirit is yearning and longing for us to be deeply in love with Him! You were created by God to have a personal love relationship with. That’s your sole purpose.

It’s so easy for our Divine Purpose to get lost in the muddle of our busy lives. Our daily enjoyment of God’s presence in us and with us gets lessened as we focus on daily activities. Simply put, when you fill up on daily living, you are NOT hungry for God.

I’m learning to increase my God-hunger! You can develop your hunger too, by loving Him and talking to Him throughout your day. You’ll find that your spirit will begin craving time with Him as you become preoccupied with noticing His creation and the many ways He delights your heart. The more you think about Him, the more you thank Him and worship Him, the more your appetite will change. Instead of being caught up in the surging emotions surrounding daily activities, you’ll begin experiencing joy and fulfillment. You will hunger for God.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father, Thank you for loving me and for wanting a deeply personal relationship with me. Your love overwhelms me. I’m ashamed of those times I’m not motivated to be with You. Please forgive me. Teach me how to grow my hunger for Your Word, Your power and Your presence. I long to show You my love and my devotion. Thank You, dear Jesus. Amen.

Now It’s Your Turn

1)      Confess your sin of not being motivated to be with Jesus.

2)      Know that you are forgiven and totally accepted and yearned for by Jesus.

3)      Focus on His love, thanking Him for His constant thoughts for you.

“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!”

Ps. 139:17

4) Choose to grow hungrier each day.

More from the Girlfriends

Dear friend, do you realize how dear you are to the heart of God? 1 Corinthians 6:20 tells us that He desires this relationship so much, that He purchased you with Jesus! My prayer for you is that you will accept His invitation to drink deeply of His love and enjoy His fulfillment.
