I have no idea if there are old threads on this subject kicking around, but if there are, I can't find them. So I'll just start something new. On Aug 8 my hubby is getting a vasectomy reversal(micro-surgery). I am SO excited. I have hoped for this for a long time. We weren't on the same page on the issue, and now we are!! It is 8 years since his original vasectomy. Are there others here that have had reversal babies or are going through the process like we are or thinking about it? If so I would love to chat about it. Laurie

I hope it goes well. I brought that up to my DH and he absolutely refused.

I'm sorry he refused. I know first hand what that is like. My husband and I were not of like mind on the subject for about 5 years. He was adamant that there was NO WAY he was going to change his mind. Then all of a sudden he had a change of heart, and when he did that was it! I did pray off and on over the years for him to have a change of heart. "Please Lord if you are going to change his mind please let it be before I am 40" and here I am 39 "OK Lord. forgive me for praying for my wants, I desire your will for our lives" There is a yahoo group I belong to and it's amazing how many women are not on the same page as their husband on this issue. I read again and again about women praying and waiting. Laurie

Well, at the time we were on the same page and I was the one who wanted him to get it done and over with. I had just had 2 miscarriages and was pregnant with my third. I was afraid that if I tired to have anymore kids, the pregnancies would end as the other two did and it was hard to take. Especially the second one when I knew what it felt like (emotionally) from the first one. But of course my daughter is now 4 and I have different views on everything since Christ entered my life. So it will be what it is supposed to eventhough I so badly want another child.

We get comments from time to time about our age (I am 39) and would likely be at least 40 by the time we saw a baby. Also, our youngest would be at least 9 by then. We aren't deterred by it though. Just too naively excited I suppose If we are blessed with more children, and I have been assured by the Lord that we will be (that's a whole 'nother story) We aren't sure what we would do to limit pregnancies. Being the age that I am fertility might not be as ummmm readily available? Laurie

The oldest women I know personally to have a child was 42 (she had 12 in total) Soon I might be the "oldest woman I know having babies" I NEVER would have guessed that. I was reading about a woman (also in BC) who just had her 18th baby at the age off 44. They aren't sure they are finished yet, either. I'm sure there are many out there having babies in their 40's I just haven't met many. Laurie

I read about that woman having her 18th child in BC too. Wow, that is supposed to be the largest family in B.C. now. I just remembered that my brother-in-law had a reversal and it was successful.

Glad it was successful fro him. That is encouraging. Do you happen to know how many years after the original vasectomy the reversal was performed? We will be paying $6,600 for my husband's procedure. Since we are determined to do it, I'm glad it isn't more!! Laurie

That would be great since most statistics tie success rates to length of time between procedure. Now having said that , God can do anything! Laurie

Twins, that's wonderful! Praying/hoping for twins here. That would be a wonderful way for God to begin to "restore what the locusts have eaten or is it taken?"

My sister's husband had his reversal done just over ten years later and they were pregnant in about two months. Good luck.

Thanks ladies for the stats on the reversals. Very encouraging. We're back from the surgery. All went very well. The Dr said that what he saw was not typical of a 8 year old vasectomy. He said hubby's anatomy looked very healthy. There was minimal scar tissue and every indication that there are "Swimmers" present. Hooray! Now he just needs to get healed up and we'll see what happens next. Laurie

At day 16 post -operation dh is doing great. It was a full two weeks for him to feel himself again though. Just thought I would post his recovery time frame in case anyone was curious about that part. We have learned SO MUCH about this over the last couple months. I would be happy to share our experience or what we have learned if anyone else is considering this procedure. Blessings, Laurie

BCMOM, You could head over to the TTC thread in Women's Only-Personal Issues and share some of your experiences there, and to keep us updated!
