Hi folks. Wondering if you may be interested in sharing a scripture or two that helps you say no to indulging in your favorite sin? Couple of mine are:
II Corinthians 2:2-3. "You yourselves are a letter of recommendation written on our hearts to be known and read by all. You show that you are a letter from the Messiah delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts."
Also, Romans 12:12 "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer." This last one is challenging because sometimes I get a big
case of entitlement..

Phillipians 4:8 it! - "Finally, brothers (and sisters), whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things." NIV

1 Corinthians 10:13 - "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." NIV

The challenge is often how physically fit is the mind of the believer- where our focus is, and what daily training are we providing it. Temptations don't always come screaming at me, proclaiming 'Look out, you weak human, I'm gong to overpower you in five seconds! Ha ha ha.' Nope, that would make it too easy for me to fight it off.

OneJohn, you took both of mine. I struggle with sinful thoughts and these two remind me that I CAN overcome if I keep my mind on the true, holy, pure, excellent things of God. I am reminded that nothing is new under the sun, and God loves me enough to provide a way to escape!

I just remember that sin grieves the Holy Spirit and I don't want to grieve Him. Plus it puts a barrier between God and I, which I don't like. Plus Romans 6 says we are dead to sin, so why sin when I'm dead to it? :)

Not a verse, but the thought: "Is this sin worth more than my good relationship with God for all of eternity?"

Stops me in my tracks.

I hate being a sinner.

Consistant re-reading of the first five books of the Bible help me to know what sin is, so that I can better avoid it.

I put your verses and such on index cards and will keep your suggestions at my desk every day. One final thought, kind of haunting but gets right to the gist of the matter,
