It would be really great if there was something similar to the 'Report' option where we'd be able to ask a mod to step in just to clarify a point for a poster. Or making it so the report option doesn't have such negative connotations to use (surely that can't just be me[&:]).

For instance. Saw a post by someone recently about a health issue they had in a thread. They'd also posted about it in the Prayer thread and were concerned that they were spamming. (Kath (as always, thank you[:D]) did clarify the point for the poster in this case.)

While ordinary posters can, and have said, that it's fine to do this immediately after, it's always nice to have that confirmation from a mod.

I wish there was a brief pause when sending someone a PM where the server would look at itself and determine whether the receiver could receive it first, and then inform the sender GO or NO GO.

I also wish the ESC key was disabled from deleting any typing done in replying to a thread and whatever else it deletes in.

How about some collegiate football helmet smileys for this fall? I've seen season schedules with helmet icons that are about smiley-size. That would be awesome.

Thanks for reading these wishes.

Great idea! In fact, I think we could use other sports smileys too... like baseball, basketball, soccer...

MyCatSmokey2006 -> RE: Wish list (7/18/2008 3:16:05 PM)

I'd like to be able to upload pictures in my posts. On the bottom of the box that I'm type posts in, it says to "Click here to upload". I've tried doing that, but it doesn't work. I think Kath or another mod said that only the mods can do that with their posts.

I think that the rest of us should be allowed to do so. If someone uploads something that's inappropriate, they can be counseled or banned, just like they would be if they had uploaded an inappropriate avatar. I mean, why bother to have this uploading function if no one is able to use it?

Trust me, NO ONE wants to see the things that trolls put up when the picture feature is available. Yes, we can ban them and remove them, but when they happen when a mod isn't around or they happen so fast that it takes a while to clean up... you do NOT want to see those pictures. [:'(]

2jsmom -> RE: Wish list (7/18/2008 4:48:01 PM)

I second what Trish said. Trolls tend to appear in the off hours and it can take some time to get the pictures removed. I was here during one troll attack and I'm glad the picture feature is gone.

MyCatSmokey2006 -> RE: Wish list (7/18/2008 10:19:00 PM)

If that's the case, then there should be a statement that reads something like "upload feature not available", so that other users and I will know that it's not available to us.

Isn't that what "Image Code disabled" means?

I come in through ibelieve and I don't have that option (I use 'fast reply', don't know if 'post reply' would display it.

I agree with Trish ~ I'd ralther not have the pictures option if it meant that we got trolls posting. Remember, that for the likes of anyone with a blog in forums, we can put images in our blogs. I posted some of my garden recently and mentioned it in the gardening thread that I post in regularly, stating what post # it was. It would be then up to individuals whether they looked or not.

MyCatSmokey2006 -> RE: Wish list (7/19/2008 2:42:05 PM)

Okay, I'll go check my blog and see if it's there. Thank you.

MyCatSmokey2006 -> RE: Wish list (7/19/2008 2:53:07 PM)

Now I have another idea...

I think that since the mental health discussions are limited to two one-stop threads, other topics in the Health & Fitness folder should be limited to one-stop threads as well. This should free up server space and maybe have other benefits to forums management. Also, it's not right to single out one medical condition to limit discussions on and not the others.

Some suggested one-stop thread topics are:

Cancer One-Stop Thread
Fitness One-Stop thread
Obesity and Diet One Stop Thread
Cardiovascular and Lung Disease One Stop Thread
Bone Health One Stop Thread
Skin Problems One Stop Thread

That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure you get the point.

zoebob -> RE: Wish list (7/19/2008 2:55:43 PM)

I believe that part of the thing is that mental health is a highly controversial issue. That is at least part of why it has one-stops. Bone health is not a very controversial issue.

I understand what you're saying, and to an extent I agree with you, given I post in the mental health threads too. I think my main concern is that new posters starting a thead which is then closed may feel intimidated and not post in such a long thread.

However, in fairness to admin, it can be difficult to make one-stop threads. For instance, you mentioned 'Obesity and Diet'. Well they're really 2 very different things. Healthy people (those who eat well and are in a health range for their height) may be interested in a thread on diet (when it's not something to go on in order to lose weight) but have no interest in obesity. Likewise, there may be many people who are obese who would be intimidated by folk discussing how healthy they eat.

on the other hand I know I've seen some newbies in there. :) I try to remember (but I can't say I always remember) to tell them they can just jump right in and say hi.

Kath -> RE: Wish list (7/19/2008 9:13:44 PM)

There are many reasons for a One Stop thread. See here for the official explanation.

do we have a lot of threads on bone health, cancer and skin problems?
searching the last 30 days I only found one on cancer. One on bone health. I think 2 on skin issues. None were controversial and nothing that one would need a One Stop for. I didn't check the other topics because frankly I got bored but I can't see that the folder was overrun on any one topic or that they generated a lot of heated debate.

MyCatSmokey2006 -> RE: Wish list (7/20/2008 12:27:30 AM)

Thanks for the link, Kath. I understand now, given that mental health is a hotly debated topic, so it probably needed lots of moderating, so that's probably why Fritz created the one stop threads on those issues.

I just thought it was a misunderstanding on his part that mental illness is a medical illness like diabetes or heart disease, so my suggestions I posted were just satire remarks to try to prove a point. I apologize if I offended anyone with what I posted in this thread, or for even starting such a stupid thread in the first place. [&o]

Melissa, from what I know of Fritz, he's got a pretty good understanding of things.

You know something... when we don't understand why something is being done it can really irritate us. Finally we do some asking, and we find the answers. Now it may not be the answer we want, but at least we can understand.

Kudos to you for asking and for apologising.

That's right!

and I'd think one would like the Mental Health Encouragement thread because then one can be free to share without having to be concerned about people coming in and harassing users with negative, unhelpful, derogatory and even vile comments. I'd think it's a safe place but maybe it's just me.

This was the first Christian site that let me in... I think sometimes they regret that decision[:D]
