Another long weekend here in Qld. Monday is Labour Day.

We're planning a fairly quiet one. Dh is working today but he has the rest of the weekend off. I'm doing some washing and we'll probably do a quick spritz of the house this afternoon but we have no plans for the rest of the weekend.

I've been working, running after children and pets and trying to keep a house in order while my dh is away from home half the time.

Now that I'm starting to find my feet at work I will try to be better about getting online again, but if it ends up being another weekend again before I get here don't think I've fallen off the edge of the world.

We had the most amazing dinner at church this evening. It was an international dinner with many bringing dishes from their cultural background. I think the highlight for me was the pink potato salad.

We also spent part of the day at the markets. I had a bit of a disappointed 13yo when we finally got home because one of the games he bought didn't have the CD in it when he finally opened it (good and thankfully not too expensive lesson though to always check before walking away).

I bought myself a keyring while there. I always struggle to find my keys in my handbag. Now they're attached to a really pretty string of polished stones. It's become more important to me to be able to find them faster with the area I'm now working in. It adds a sense of security to know you're holding them in your hand as you walk out of the office (interesting area of town).

We also went into town for part of the day and I bought X a few pieces of Winter clothing. It's so diverse in the city as far as clothing shops.

We bought some clothes at one shop, which were quite reasonable and then popped into another shop just a few doors down to find that two pieces of clothing (a basic skivvy top and a sleeveless hoodie) were, combined, $140.00. We walked out of there without those and went just another few shops away to Best and Less and spent much less than $140.00 and got her several polar-fleece jumpers, a couple of sets of PJs, a dressing gown and some slippers.

I nearly forced the issue and told dh we were going home partway through church tonight. He's been working really hard lately and started getting dizzy during the singing at church. He insisted he just needed to sit down but I was so close to just telling he and the kids to get in the car (mama bear style). I'm glad he's got the day off tomorrow.

Kylie, has dh gone to the doctor to get himself checked out?

You sound like one busy lady. I hope you're taking some time for you.

Darcy, I loved those pics, very cool!!!

Trish, dh is one of those 'I'd rather be carried out in a pine box than see a doctor' type of people. There have been times in our marriage where I've had to be quite forceful to get him to seek medical attention.

Yes, I've been taking some me time. I've been getting a little of my cross-stitch done each weekend.

And last night dh, J and X took me out to dinner for an early Mothers Day celebration. I had a Banoffi Pie (hope I spelt that right) - bananas and custard on a biscuit base, covered in cream and shredded coconut with a strawberry on top, surrounded by pureed strawberries and served with icecream.

Dh had sticky date pudding and J and X shared this monstrous chocolate mud sundae covered in marshmallows. The 'glass' it was served in was so big that they had to reach up to get to the food.

Kylie, I'm glad you're getting some time for you. How far through are you on your cross stitch?

Sounds excellent having your early Mother's Day. Dessert sounds nice.

The cross-stitch is huge. I've put about 15-20 hours in on it already and only have about 1/10th done. It will probably be my project for the next year.

We had a lovely Mothers Day today. Dh bought me a fruit bowl which is made of the same material (crazy weave willow) that I already have a lamp and screen in, J bought me some candles and wax melts and X bought me a dichroic glass pendant (green with mother of pearl colouring through it) on a gold chain.

Then we went out and spent lunch with some friends we haven't seen for a while.

Dh is now working for a couple of hours, finishing off a job which has to be complete by Tuesday as he will be out of town both Monday and Tuesday.

I had a good day today. I got more than the work I had to get done completed, dh popped in and we went out to lunch and then I got home to find half the weekend housework done.

Who? Me or the kids???

X had four of her friends over today for a board game. Two of the friends weren't Christians. One went home early but the other stayed the whole time. After the first one went home X put on some music, her favourite artist is Michael W Smith, so her friend got to hear some good stuff and then the girls asked me to sing.

So I sang them a part of 'Power in the Name'. It was the only song I could think of at the time that I could remember the lyrics too, so I'm guessing God had a purpose in that.

Now we're having a relaxing family evening, thinking about playing Apples to Apples with the kids and dh.

Today was a lazy one. I got some clothes off the line, hung some more up which I'd had on airers in the garage, dh went out and worked for a couple of hours and then he took X out to play with the remote control car for a while.

After that dh and I planted some bulbs. I've tried really hard to work out height order and then mixed them in three batches of tall, medium and small, planting them from the back of the garden bed to the front. Hopefully, come Spring we'll have some really pretty flowers along our side passage.

Now I'm hanging around until 3pm, waiting on someone to turn up. And I may drag J and X off to church this evening. Dh has already said that he isn't going tonight.

I've never heard of Apples to Apples. How do you play that?

Did you get to church on Sunday night?

What sort of bulbs did you plant? We already have some irises coming out, but the others haven't started showing yet.

Apples to Apples is a word game. One person puts out an adjective and then everyone else has to put out a noun, face-down, to go with it. Then the person who put out the adjective has to pick which noun goes best with their word. Sometimes the combinations can be quite funny.

We have so many different varieties of bulbs that I can't remember them all - daffodils, jonquils, anemones, ranunculi, freesias, ixias, hyacinth, grape hyacinth... X had a fundraiser for school where they sold bulbs. They were really cheap and I've been wanting to put bulbs down the side passage for ages so I bought a heap. Half the money she raised was taken directly off the cost of her excursion to Canberra so I figure the bulbs really cost me half of what I paid because I would have been spending that money on X's excursion anyway.

We didn't make church on Sunday night. I really need to start making sure I get there. It's getting too much of a habit lately to say we're going to go in the evening and then deciding we're too tired by the time evening comes around.

Irises, expecially Japanese irises, are one of my favourite flowers. I also love snowflakes.

Ah, that's another type of bulb I bought... snowflakes!

J has a sore foot tonight. Some of his schoolmates were 'playing' a game of stompie. J got a very badly bruised foot and sprained ankle out of it.

And X got Student of the Week for her class at Assembly today.

Ouch for J! Hope that heals quickly.

Our irises and daffodils have started coming up. Lots of bulbs to start doing something, but it will come. I love when all the flowers start coming up. There's lots of bulbs in the back garden. The stems get so heavy though that they all just lie down instead of staying upright.

We haven't seen any sprouts yet but I guess we planted a little later than you did.

J's foot is much better. As long as he's careful with it you can hardly tell he injured it.

He also has a huge bruise on his arm right now from an immunisation needle the other day. He fainted.

I had one of those busy days at work today where I feel like I accomplished nothing.

We're slowly getting more irises coming up. There's more mini daffodils coming up too. I can't wait for the other flowers to come up. We get lots of colour in our back garden. If only it worked just as well in the front garden.

Glad to hear that J's doing better.

I was supposed to go out to a friends for a homewares party today but I got my periods and was feeling really awful so I went to bed and slept for four hours instead.

The older I get the more pain I seem to have the first day of my periods. It almost makes me wish I'd go through early menopause just so I didn't have to put up with it anymore. It's not like dh and I are planning anymore children.

Ah well, I can catch up with my friend next weekend. We're going to her 30th birthday party.

Did I mention that I have a slight allergy to menstrual products (even the cotton ones)? That just adds that extra element of fun to the experience.

I was so glad to have a calmer day today. Yesterday was just frantic. Today was busy, but steady and much more enjoyable.

Hopefully tomorrow will be good too as Thursdays I try to walk out the door right on 5pm as J and X have swimming at 5.15. It's a good thing that I work only ten minutes from home and swimming is only five minutes away after I dash in to pick up the kids.
