Hey, Skreyola. I appear to have the same challenge as you do. You'd think that it wouldn't be so difficult... First, I'd like to unrecommend Blue Like Jazz. Second, you're a writer if I remember correctly. Are there any coffeshops or similar type establishments that you could frequent? You'd be enjoying a nice coastal winter outside: writing a little, reading a bit, sipping a beverage of some sort (you don't have to purchase the paycheck-priced beverages), brainstorming, daydreaming, editing and revising, and repeating in whichever order you wish. That seems a little trendy, but you wouldn't be trendy about it. You'd be in your element, only out of your house and in public. If you did it long enough, you just might bump into some like-minded people. The only problem is that, if you're like me, you'd become too engrossed in your activities and forget to look up/appear open for conversation.

Yeah, re: Blue, I flipped through the copy I was given in some way related to college, and I saw a few things that were kind of neat, but nothing that made me want to read more than the cartoon bits. It's sitting in my pile of things to sell/giveaway. Yes, I am a writer. There's a coffe shop in town, but I wouldn't have to plunk down a paycheck for it. It's run by a church, and they don't have prices on anything (which I find mintuely annoying; I want to buy my food/drink), running on donations and ministry funds. Yeah, I definitely wouldn't be trendy, hehe. But your problem scenario is very likely, I think, with me, too. Still, it's probably a good idea. I probably will try to spend more time out in public once I get my business T-shirts (I ordered them today, and they have my name and URL on them).

I spend alot of time with my sister that lives here in the same town. I really don't spend much time with anyone else. I am like someone else said on here...by the time I spend time with people all day I really can use some alone time in the evenings. I do go to my sisters, but not every night. I tried to get on chat last night, but couldn't get connected. BTW...what is CW?

I think if I had the time, I won't have problems meeting people. Of course, that doesn't translate to making friends. I talk to almost everyone--hiking trails, bike rides, bookstores, cafes....small talk is easy for me, esp if I'm in my element. I've hiked with total strangers that I met on a trails, and had the absolute awesome time. I wish I have more time to nurture some of those acquaintances that I've made.

Though I still believe looking up, noticing others glancing at you and smiling is a great way to meet people, an experience last night and the persuing discussion with a friend got me thinking if maybe I am giving credit to something which isn't really that which deserves the credit. Last night, while at a dinner with two other people, a young lady approached our table and asked me if I lead a bible study group and if so if she could join. In this situation I did not make eye contact nor smile at her............so, as my friend pointed out, something else drew her to me. Some of it was our discussion but even then I do not think that was what really drew her. I have no doubt God brought a new friend into my life last night and I look forward to getting to know her.......... But what drew her............was praying that God would use me how ever he wished at dinner..........before going to dinner. skreyola I believe the best way to find friends is to be open to receive friendship and we do this by praying, before even walking into the coffee shop, park, ball game or whatever or where ever we are going to be around people, and asking God to give us a open inviting heart, one which draws others to us, and then expect others to be drawn to you.
