First of all, this is voter *registration* fraud, not voter fraud. It is highly unlikely to make much difference come election time. Second, there is little evidence that this is anything more than ACORN workers defrauding ACORN itself by submitting fraudulent registration forms in order to earn more cash. I believe that, by law, all registration forms submitted to ACORN have to be passed on to the registrar whether or not they are believed to the fraudulent but even then, in many the incidents of fraud it was ACORN itself that identified the bad forms.

I have no doubt there is some fraud going on, but over all, both sides have their black sheep. Black and poor neighborhoods are again being targeted by leaflets claiming that voters with outstanding traffic tickets and other warrants will be arrested at the polls if they turn up, and certainly in the last election there were plenty of examples of Republican illegal push-polling, and I believe it's already started again in places like Oregon.

The bottom line with the ACORN stuff is that there is no evidence of system fraud, and it is estimated that 99% of ACORN submitted registrations are perfectly valid.

If and when McCain loses this election, it won't be because of ACORN.

Actually it can make a difference if some people try to vote more than once in different precincts, which this type of fraud will allow.

I don't believe your figure of 99% is valid. From what I've been hearing in all the counties that are reporting fraud about half of the registrations submitted by ACORN are fraudulent. People are going on record as having been paid to fill out over 50 registrations.

Also, ACORN is claiming that they were the ones to bring this to the attention of the registers office but that is incorrect as well. Several states have made statements that they discovered the invalid forms and informed not only ACORN but the FBI as well.

And saying that the employees are the ones at fault and not ACORN is not a valid argument either. I would accept this if it was one or two states, but this is nationwide suggesting that either ACORN is promoting it, or at the very least it isn't frowned upon.

ACORN is likening this to an employee stealing office supplies. Well last time I checked stealing office supplies isn't a felony. And if half of your employees are stealing office supplies then there is something wrong with the leadership of that company. Ultimately ACORN is responsible for the actions of their workers.

While I agree that any and all voter fraud should be aggressively addressed, this whole ACORN deal stinks of desperation three weeks out from the election.

How does it "stink of desperation" when both Republicans and Democrats are reporting the problem?

How does it "stink of desperation" when the FBI is getting involved?

How does it "stink of desperation" when there is ample evidence of invalid voter registration forms?

So far as has been reported and have evidence of:
People getting paid to fill out multiple registrations.
Multiple registrations with the same name but different addresses.
Registrations with invalid or non-existent addresses.
Registrations with invalid or non-existent social security numbers.
The entire Dallas Cowboy front line registered in Nevada.
