A place to talk about all things Sesame Street. Who is your favorite?

It's nice to have a few female muppets (finally). I like the new human characters (Chris and Lela) this season too. I like Murray. He's my favorite right now.

Hey, you make a good point....I think Prairie Dawn was the only female muppet when I was a kid. I actually set my cell phone alarm to go off everyday at 9am so me and the kids can watch Sesame Street.

I voted other, because when I was a kid, I LOVED Ernie and Bert, both. They just seemed REAL to me. As an adult, I like snufffalupoguous, because I always care for the underdog. I haven't paid close attention in a while, but I can't remember if one person sees him or if nobody sees him. Either way, I just feel so sorry for him, and wish that one day EVERYBODY could see him....yeah and when I was a kid, if I was eating a gingerbread man, I would always bite the head off first, so that he wouldn't be in pain when I ate the rest of him..yes, my imagination runs away with me. P.S. I end up hearing PBS ALL DAY LONG, because my (disabled) sister ALWAYS wants PBS on during the day.

Yes I think that Snuffy was my fav, but I grew up knowing that he was immaginary friend of Big Birds, so when did they "reveal" him to everyone. I kind of would like to see that episode.

Elmo is one of my fav's too. Both my kids really like him too. I never liked Bert...when I was a kid, I thought he was a "bad guy" because of him being so irritated all the time and his angrry eyebrows. LOL. Ernie is my all time fav though, he has all the best songs.

I decided Bert needed a real friend. I liked him instead.

When I was a kid, I really liked Bert, but liked Oscor the Grouch also. These days I am much more of a Kermit The Frog and Ernie fan instead.

So how old would you say some of the muppets are? I think Elmo and Zoey are about 3 or 4 years old. They are both potty trained, have good language skills, know the alphabet, but they don't know how to read yet. Also, Elmo still struggles with sharing as shown in Elmo in Grouchland. I think Big Bird & Oscar are adults since they live alone. I'm not sure about Cookie Monster. He has an adult voice, but his language skills and the ability to delay gratification are lacking. Curly Bear (Baby Bear's little sis) I think is somewhere between 6 months and 1 year old since she can crawl, but she can't walk. I think Baby Bear is also about Elmo and Zoey's age since Big Bird taught him to say the alphabet. I think Bert and Ernie are young adults since they are roommates. Ernie can be pretty immature at times, so that's what makes me think they are young. I'm not sure about Telly, but I do know he needs some anti-anxiety medication. He is extremely high strung and pessimistic.

I kind of would like to see that episode. When my oldest ( now age 25) started watching Sesame Street, Snuffy was indeed the imaginary friend of Big Bird. However not long after there was a rash of accusations of child abuse by caregivers as well as the first wave of adults coming forward to say that they had been abused as children. Parents/teachers/caring adults were being told that it was crucial to always believe a child. Therefore the Children's Television Workshop decided that it was sending a bad message to children to have Big Bird "know" that Snuffy was real but not be able to get any adults to believe him. So Snuffy was revealed in order to encourage children to talk to trusted adults about things and expect that they would be taken seriously.

I was born the same year as Sesame Street premiered so I actually grew up with it. I grew up loving the Count but I'm definitely an Elmo fan as my child (now 5) was coming up. She's more Disney fascinated now. Abby Cadabby is pretty adorable....

Oscar is probably my favourite. He's so grouchy it's cute. Grover is adorable and lovable, but there are muppets that STILL give me nightmares. Anyone remember the aliens that come down with the wide open mouths? *shudders* They still creep me out.
