Cranky, so sorry for your loss, and I'm definitely praying.

I'll be watching for your parenting thread. At least I can post there! Currently, I am neither breastfeeding NOR bottlefeeding. So I guess I can be an expert on the subject, eh?

Thanks Mona.

The info I have on my brother is third-hand, but here it is:

He had been on dialysis for most of his adult life, and had medical issues. From what I understand, this week he suffered a perforated bowel and the surgery found too much dead tissue, and they couldn't do anything. They closed him up and told SIL she had 12 to 24 hours left with him.

He woke from the surgery, SIL gave him the news, and then they prepared for him to die. He was able to see his four children, and briefly see my dad as well.

Must have been incredibly difficult.

Yes.

I hope his last hours were comfortable.

And I'm glad he got to say goodbye to those you listed.

I guess the Lord wanted him to have that time.

I wonder what he said to his kids. What would you say if you knew your words would be your last?

It's just tragic.

Ha! I'm not brave enough to start that thread.

With the rules I set up, you couldn't post there either, because you and your husband are parents and you most likely sleep in the same bed. See, the rules are vague like that.

(((cranky))) I'm so sorry to hear about your brother.

I dare someone to start a new thread in the parenting folder:

PARENT SUPPORT THREAD

This is a thread to support parenting.

None of these parents are allowed to post:

parents who breastfeed
parents who bottle feed
parents who don't potty train
parents who potty train
parents who sleep in separate beds
parents who sleep in same beds
parents who sleep in separate houses
parents who cry it out
parents who control their crying
parents who never cry at all

If someone does, please PM me. I've been lurking over there a lot lately. Parents are funny....

But these are the forums. I thought you got to pick and choose where you want to be an expert...whether you are or not. I'm also extremely sharp in eschatology. Go ahead..quiz me. And computers too! Let me give you advice on how to reconfigure your whole system. You won't regret it. But my real forte is automotive. I know exactly what that doo-hickey does and why it's making that sound and how to fix it.

Mona and Lioness . . .

Looking at the last line of Mona's post that the Lion quoted and then looking at Lioness' signature . . . kind brings a whole new clarity to things, doncha know.

For those interested in the explosion of support threads in parenting, this thread may interest you all...

(sorry! my cheat list for how to do relative links was in the old den so I can't remember how to do it...)

I've decided I have enough issues with whether I'm a good parent or not without reading those threads so I stay out of there. I have kids, a mother and a mother-in-law to tell me when I mess up or not.

FYI...I'm not breastfeeding, bottle feeding, nor am I potty training....those days are OVER!!!!

I know that feeling. What really stinks is when I go away for a few hours (after almost no posting) and come back to find that people started posting after I left.

I had read part of that thread earlier. People aren't always very kind to one another on here, are they? And I hope they all have kids that act just like 'em!!!! (as long as they don't go to my church or visit my office......)

I like this thread. It's safe.

Weird, but safe.

Mike and the Cat

Mike's mother looked out the door and saw Mike reading
the Bible to his cat. She thought to herself, "Isn't that
sweet? I will not disturb him and will let him continue to
play with the cat."

Sometime later, Mom heard an awful noise and looked out the
door to see Mike trying to force the cat into a bucket of
water. She loudly said to Mike, "Mike, what are you
trying to do with the cat?"

Mike replied, "I am trying to baptize him!"

His mom said, "Cats don't like to be in water."

Mike replied, "Well, then he shouldn't have joined my
church."
