I wouldn't take a compliment about my ideas, work, wisdom, etc. as inappropriate.
My appearance ... now that is another thing.
That said ... I'm so obtuse that if a man compliments something like my clothing I STILL wouldn't catch on.... only if he complimented my appearance ... or does that belong in the "why are you still single" thread?

Yes, thats pretty much what I said. I don't know where everyone is getting the "you're hot" idea.
She just so happens to be someone who I look up to greatly. I happened to read a post of her's I loved and was about to really compliment her overall character. But I decided not to compliment her just to be safe.
