Frank Sinatra would have 'got' the joke. In the words of the great political philosopher, they all laughed at Christopher Columbus when he said the world was round. They're all laughing, too, at John McCain for choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate. The usual suspects took one look at this pistol-packin' momma and reacted like John McEnroe to a disputed line call: you cannot be serious!

...

The way the Left, both here and in America, are contorting themselves is a joy to behold. Sarah Palin is every Guardianista's worst nightmare.

It's reminiscent of how they used to patronise Mrs Thatcher 30 years ago. What did this small-town girl know about anything?

How could any woman expect to run a country and raise a family? What does she know about foreign affairs?

Of course, they weren't saying that a woman couldn't be Prime Minister, you understand. Just not this woman.

Shirley Williams would have been fine, but this ghastly, lower middle- class Snobby Roberts woman from Grantham, of all places - AAARGH!

It's been hilarious watching the sisterhood tie themselves in knots over Sarah Palin.

They've been in full Glenda Slagg mode - dontcha just hate her, dontcha just love her?
On the one hand she's a feisty, capable woman shaking up the political establishment, while juggling a family and career. I don't know how she does it.

But on the other, she's a Godfearing, gun-totin', good ol' girl. She hunts, she fishes - she's a Republican, for goodness' sake.

I think its a compliment when people try and compare people of great stature such as Palin, to people that will never be forgotten, but i think Palin brings something to the table that cant be matched. Just as Thatcher did, as did Ronald Reagan, just as Bush does, Roosevelt, JFK, so many others. They all have their seperate places in history.
But yes - it will be funny to be 70-80 years old someday and talk to my great great grandkids about how odd it was for anyone to make fun of someone as wonderful as Sarah Palin.
As ill be saying the same thing in regards to George W Bush. Things have a way of taking sometimes YEARS to make perfect sense in the minds of most all liberals.

Thanks for sharing that about Maggie Thatcher. I did not know that about her.

She and Ronnie were good friends

"They" are not "all making fun" of Barracuda. We do her no service by trying to make her a martyr or cry "sexism" at every tough question. Maggie Thatcher handled the tough questions without flinching. We need to let our "gal" take her lumps and get used to playing at a higher level. If she can't grow as she goes, she'll just end up a female version of Dan Quayle.

I think how Palin will fare remains to be seen and it's really premature to compare her to Margaret Thatcher. But I also think she's plenty capable of taking her licks and standing up to whatever her opponents can throw her way. I think most of the attacks really just bolster her popularity and put the McCain campaign on stronger footing. And I agree with cow451 that us whining about their attacks really doesn't do her or the campaign any favors. Bring it on. I'm quite certain she can handle herself just fine. I had a boss once who always said "I don't need them to like me, I have a family for that"

Tell that to the fruitcake Obama supporters that compare him to JFK and MLK and Jesus.

I don't think you hear whining about Palin's treatment, but it would be nice if people like Charlie Gibson gave each candidate the same treatment.

For him to softball Obama then come out with guns blazing at Palin is simply wrong...

Agreed.
That was soooo obviously biased of him. U would think he would keep his liberal-ness under tighter wraps...

Then why did you whine about the interview? If she can't handle gentle Charlie Gibson, how is she gonna handle some hostile head of state? Exhibition season is coming to a close, folks.

But thats just it. Gibson was being hard on her on purpose just to try and trip her up. Not because hes so worried about her holding her own. He probably knew she would excel at that interview - i think he was just seeing how far he could push it.
When he interviewed Obama, on the other hand, i was shocked he didnt offer Obama an invitation to come visit him at Christmastime and sit at the head of his dinner table.

If "exhibition season" is over does that mean Obama will return to his ladies softball team while Palin pitches for MLB?

First off you never hear Palin complain about the treatment they are giving her. Unlike Hillary and unlike Obama, she takes it in stride and even gives a little back.

Second, just because she doesn't complain, and just because she can take it doesn't make it right, doesn't mean we can point out the blatant bias of the media.

Oh, and just wait because all of the debates are hosted by liberals. I can't wait to see how "fair" they are going to be.

Senator Obama, your first question: Are you comfortable? Can I get you a pillow?

...to her credit.

But there sure is a lot of WHINING from the some on these boards. She's only been under the spot light for what...three plus weeks?

As for comparing her to the Iron Lady...yes, it's beyond premature.

Aside from the Margaret Thatcher/Iron Lady comparison, can it be said that Sarah Palin can be seen as America's own Angela Merkel?

Well, right now, the best we can do is say that she is another Tina Fey! The debates will be the next real test.

hmm , not sure that trite line is a fair statement, unless it was a stab at humor.

After all, one is majorly successful in both family and carreer, and the other has bounced around from relationship to relationship and has a job that um , entertains somewhat I guess.

I didn't know that Sarah Palin "bounced around from relationship to relationship." Tina Fey's been married for 7 years (dated him for 7 years before that) and has a 3 yr old daughter.

Another liberal fornicator.

Fey, 34, and Richmond, 44, met before their "SNL" jobs and dated for seven years before tying the knot in a Greek Orthodox ceremony in 2001, the magazine said.

It gets better. She graduated from the University of Virginia.

Just shows how carried away we're getting here. Just throwing stuff out there to see what will stick without bothering to do a 30-second search before smearing someone wrecklessly. Let's try to at least keep these discussions based in some semblance of fact.

My bad for sure, thanks for the correction. I saw the guys name as a "relationship" on a site but didn't see it as married.
Good for her then, first marriage and still in it.

And 30 seconds is where I went wrong, so your advice didn't pay off too well csl7037 not to mention your harsh judgement.

Another liberal fornicator.

Now is that somehow different from a conservative fornicator?

O wait, it is I forgot, the liberal gets a pass, the conservative becomes a hypocrite by default.
