Tomato soup and grilled cheese is one of my all time favorite comfort meals, it takes me back to my childhood. Kids are definitely funny when it comes to eating. Tonight we had pot roast and Hunter was not eating the potatoes or carrots. He had a toddler plastic fork, so I gave him my fork (regular silverware) and he ate fine with that. So tonight we bought him toddler silverware, the real deal not the plastic take and toss stuff. Hopefully, that will encourage better eating at dinnertime. He use to be such a good eater, but now he can be very picky.

Jessica, good luck to Paul on the promotion! Hearing you doing all this travelling makes me wonder, when are you heading up this way??? Today is going to be pretty busy day. I'm going to take the kids to playgroup in the morning. Then I need to go vote in the afternoon. And then we have swimming lessons and the library in the evening. Not to mention the usual cooking, cleaning and errands. Oh well, at least when we come home and Akeelah gets to bed I can curl up in front of the tv with a cup of tea and Dh for some election coverage! Have a lovely day ladies!

Today is our last day with Daddy before he leaves for three days, so he is thinking of meeting us for lunch and then taking the afternoon off. I need to get all three of us bathed this morning and get the kitchen and bathroom cleaned up. I also need to do some fire safety research since we are doing fire safety week this week instead of last week- and to truly become my father's daughter, we're going to start having fire drills too. We are even ordering a ladder to keep in the girls room (which I am really happy about, I will feel much better- the front of the house has a porch, so you could always climb on it, then jump to grass/ dangle and drop kids down if necessary)... Today the weather has finally taken a turn and it looks like we are truly having fall weather- time for pumpkin bread, apple pie, apple butter (we are going apple picking next week), banana bread, oatmeal cookies, pumpkin cookies... Yep, I like to bake.... Jess- what recipe does your hubby use for bread bowls? I make a whole wheat one that is okay, but what I'd really like to replicate is the sour dough bowl from Panera...yum...

No coupon advice from me, Sandy. I never use them unless they are sitting on the shelf with a product I already buy... Most of the stuff we eat or use on our bodies don't have coupons anyway.

Same here. I can never find coupons for anything I buy. And anything I do find coupons for I never buy (except maybe diapers).

Does anyone else HATE coupons?? I'm trying to keep our grocery budget down...and I'm making a valiant effort, I really am. But I just find the whole coupon/figuring thing to be very stressful. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? I'd just rather keep expenses down another way. If anyone has some tips, I'd be glad to hear them... Hate coupons??!! Tips for coupons...they often run with the sales in the next week or two, so if you pay attention and use them soon as you get them, you can often find sales to go with them. Sign up for coupons of products you know you love online. The ones they mail to you are much better than the ones in the newspaper. Oh, and when you are cutting them out, cut out anything you would buy if it were cheaper, even if it's expensive. I find things all the time that are on a huge sale or clearance that I also have a coupon for. Like kids meds...I usually buy Walmart brand, but I cut out the coupons anyway and then if they have a bunch on sale, they end up being cheaper than Walmart brand. Last, but not least...how are you storing your coupons? I have mine in an index card file box, which is arranged by how I shop through Walmart and then coupons are arranged by expiration date within their categories, so the ones that expire first get used first. quote:
Completely random question...if you are in a fire, but can't get out of the room, what do you do? (I am thinking the answer is hang something from the window but leave the window shut, but I can't find the answer anywhere...) Why wouldn't you be able to get out? I can't think of an instance you wouldn't be able to get out the door OR window, or a time when it would be safer to stay in a burning house than to jump even three stories and risk breaking your legs. I guess if you were higher than 3 stories up...

Donna- I'm thinking that if for some reason one of the kids is on the second floor and it is before our ladder arrives/for some reason they are panicing and can't use it- from the back of our house, it is a two story drop to a deck- something for absolutely desperate measure only... I know there is a proper way to alert firemen, just can't find it... (although I'm sure Paul or I would be there screaming and pointing if that were the case....) Coupons- I pretty much only use coupons.com b/c buying a paper to get coupons is wasteful for us (we never read it, so it's just more garbage) That way I only print what we use. There is a store that we pass 2-3 times per week (or are within 1/2 mile) so I go there almost weekly for their loss leaders- last week I got 5 boxes of *quality* cereal for 7 dollars b/c they had a big sale, then I had a three dollar coupon. Aside from that, I am starting to make monthly menu plans and do one big shopping trip per month, then just my weekly trips for sales/milk/fruit- that seems to be helping some... I am also toying around with emailing some of the companies we like to use (ie quaker oats) to see if they will mail me coupons, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet... Anyone been to dealigg.com? They have a freebie section with TONS of good free stuff- baby wipes, brownies, cookies-Sandy, oh Sandy, chocolate delivered to your house for free!!!!

I sometimes use the Publix Baby Club coupons, because they're basic ones like "any dairy item" or "any produce item". My first shipment of coupons also has free stuff, and you just pay the tax. I've been baking to this morning, specifically a loaf of bread and Maggie Muffins for the playdate tomorrow. After naptime we'll be running a few errands.

ORIGINAL: spitzu Oh Jessica, I'm so disappointed. You're supposed to drink hot tea and apple cider. Cocoa is not in the contract. I am drinking tea now if that counts for anything That hot chocolate was *amazing* tho! I posted the recipe on my blog. So, so good! Is it possible to make hot chocolate with honey or maple syrup? quote:
Jessica, good luck to Paul on the promotion! Hearing you doing all this travelling makes me wonder, when are you heading up this way??? Thanks! We are hoping to travel up there just after Christmas. We aren't totally certain tho because Paul needs to apply for time off, and he hasn't had a chance to do so yet. quote:
Jess- what recipe does your hubby use for bread bowls? Paul uses his cuban bread recipe for it - it's not like Panera's, which I believe is sour dough, but it's not bad. I'd love to have Panera-like bread bowls!! YUM! I use coupons. I have a freezer full of Cascadian Farm products - veggies and fruit - and a pantry full of their jam. After coupons the jam worked out to .40 cents each and the veggies were .68 cents a bag and the fruit was .99 cents a bag. They are organic products. There are a lot of coupons out there for "junk" but there's good coupons too - for Dole salad, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. Paul goes back to work tomorrow so I am making a special meal for him tonight - so far I've got veggies and a roast in the crock pot and a pumpkin pie. I hate pumpkin pie, but it's his favorite. I'll probably make a few other things to go along with it. A friend of his is coming over tonight and I am so excited - he's supposedly got a $2,500 camera (or maybe that's what it cost with accessories... I don't know - I'll find out soon enough!) but he's bringing it over for me to play with

Jessica - Do you use the frozen fruit for smoothies/cooking or do you eat as is once thawed? Coupons - I love coupons! I use them just about every shopping trip, but I know if I really learned how to use them properly in conjuction with sales I could save way more than I do. Kroger also prints out coupons with my receipts at check out that have been very useful. I just recently got one for $1 off YoBaby Yogurt which makes it the same price as Yo-Plait kids yogurt. I have also started clipping all the coupons taking what I want and passing them along to a friend of mine. I hated throwing away all those coupons so she has loved the fact that I do that. Hunter took a really early nap today and woke up crying. Kept crying for the next 20 minutes and all he wanted was to be in his highchair, but kept pushing away food. So I left him in his high chair because if I took him out he got even worse and just stood there trying to climb in it. So, I asked him at one point if he wanted pretzels and he said yes. After that he ate pretzels, raisins, cheese, and a few bites of his pb&j sandwich. I am still at a lose as to what the crying was about, but he is doing much better now. I still have cleaning and packing to do before tomorrow so I better not hang around here too long.

I do that and it never really did anything for me until I was able to get one of those expensive $20 razors for $5! I coupon all the time (I just got shaving gel for $0.27!) Some weeks I use a ton, others not so much. Food I mostly buy fresh or no name so I can't use coupons that way, but I always cut out coupons just in case something I use will go on sale (I'm not brand loyal for a lot of things.) Jennifer - do you mean just to alert someone that you're in the room or things to do in general? (like putting towels and sheets near the door to stop smoke from coming in.) Yolanda would be a good person to answer the question.

Oh, Jessica, you'll have to be sure to tell me what kind of swanky camera you're playing with tonight so I can live vicariously through you!! I'm so tired, I feel like my head is in a fog.
