When I go to bed, I always turn the TV on and set the sleep timer to turn it off after I'm asleep. It seems to help me...as long as I keep the channel on a show that I have seen before. (Usually Frasier re-runs.) If the TV is tuned to a show that is new, I will stay awake trying to hear what it says.

My husband and I fall asleep with the tv on every night. We usually watch Leno or put in a dvd and end up falling asleep before it's done. But one of us always wakes up and turns it off.

I like having the background noise, I find it hard to find asleep in just dark and quiet, so before I got married I would put in a dvd of my favourite tv show, put it on play all, and then set the sleep timer.

Dummy me, trying to burn the midnight oil w/ the Olympics, I find myself falling asleep a lot in front of the TV. It's not something I make a habit of, but I have done it after really rough days at work. k

I need some kind of noise to fall asleap wether that's the TV or a CD, or a DVD. If it's just quiet, my brain can't shut down

I either set the sleep timer on the TV or radio. I also need some background noise to go to sleep. It is just creepy for me whenever it is just quiet except when I am reading.

No, I hate the TV on. I hate even having a TV in the bedroom and strictly forbid my children to have one. Dh was allowed to fall asleep with the TV on growing up and he has a terrible time falling asleep, seems to never sleep very well, and the TV drives me crazy! I just wont let my kids fall into this trap.

Not intentionally, but my recliner seems to suck all the life out of me around 10pm every night regardless of what I'm doing. It's gotta be something in the fabric!

No TV's in the bedrooms around here. It is a hard and fast rule. If we want noise and hubby needs it to fall asleep, we turn on a fan.

Blessings,

Garsy

You're not alone in burning the midnight oil watching the Olympics! I have a tv in my bedroom, but that's because I ended up with 2. I don't often watch it late at night, but sometimes it's useful to have.

I tend not to go to sleep with it on though (although sometimes I will set the timer so that if I do fall asleep it will go off) because I hate the glow of the standby light, not to mention the cost of leaving it on standby.

I even have to cover my alarm clock up to hide the display.

Very few occasions have I fallen asleep without the television on. Without some sort of noise, I find it impossible to sleep.

Complete silence and pitch blackness is not something that aids in my ability to sleep.

We don't have a TV in our bedroom, so the answer is no. I can't fall asleep with the TV on anyway, unless I'm exhausted and it's really late at night and I'm laying on the couch. If it's on, I'm compelled to watch it...

I can't go to sleep with noise, I need a dark (or dim if it's during the day) room and quiet.

...only when my dh is out of town. It's funny: I don't think twice about the house creaking, etc when he's here, but when he's gone, it tends to freak me out. Soooo...the tv goes on and, Voila! The creaking noises are drowned out. Sounds silly, but it works for me...

Falling asleep in front of the TV does not necessarily mean the TV is in the bedroom. I have curled up on the couch when I was sick & dozed off w/ the TV running, but most of the time I'm in a chair & I just don't feel right when I'm falling asleep in a chair. I think my heart starts racing & it wakes me up! kd

The weird thing about me is that I don't like the glow of it to be in my face either. I pile up pillows so that the TV glow is dispersed. And I turn the digital clock around, too, so it isn't facing the bed.

That's funny. My dad is the same way, only he starts snoring about 8:30, so that's my mom's que to change the channel to HGTV.

I have to have the TV on when DH is out of town. Too many noises at night.

I often fall asleep in my recliner, sometimes for several hours (and it doesn't even have to be that late!). But when actually GOING to bed, more often than not, I'll turn on the t.v. in the bedroom and fall asleep to it. I usually wake up about 30 minutes later to turn it & the light off.

I do not fall asleep with the TV on. I do have to have a fan on all the time though. It has been a habit in my family as far back as I can remember. My grandparents even did it and so do aunts, uncles, and cousins. My dd's are also like that. I even go my hubby into the habit. lol
