You can choose more than one.
What board games do you love to play?
Which ones are you good at?

discuss board games, cards, etc. present and past.

uncabeeil -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (8/6/2008 10:49:41 AM)

From the list I chose Monopoly, Scrabble, card games (21, stud poker), Trivial Pursuit, and "Others".

The others (not Ben and his gang) include foosball, pool, Parcheesi, pinball, and backgammon.

Shuffleboard would definatley be on my list.

Zhi -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (8/6/2008 7:04:24 PM)

Robo-Rally, Killer Bunnies, and Settlers of Cataan are definitely on my list. :)

zmanfan38 -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (8/6/2008 10:51:32 PM)

I voted for Scrabble.[sm=heart.gif]

Monopoly, Scrabble, and Checkers!

PrincessButtercup -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (8/7/2008 6:02:34 AM)

Monopoly and Scrabble, but I love them mostly for the memories of playing them with sisters.

During a hurricane, Dad, my two younger sisters, and I set up Monopoly under the light of a couple candles and played half the night.

And Scrabble for a time when I was helping my little sister find a word, so as I'm spelling out "wood" she pronounced it is "wude". It's so silly and ridiculous, but it cracked me up.

Settlers of Cataan is where the party is at...

but of course, you can't forget Cranium...

I, a simple man, had to do a silent Marilyn Monroe impersonation...and yes, involved me imagining wind going up my skirt and walking like a women...impossible to conceive at expression...

PolarBear -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (8/7/2008 2:13:35 PM)

Monopoly and Risk.

"Ticket to Ride" is also a good relatively new one, from Germany. You try to connect train routes across North America (there is a separate European edition). As do many German board games, this has a lot of good gameplay elements mixed together -- it's simple, doesn't take forever, no one gets "kicked out" before the end, and it's fairly engaging.

Another good but less popular one is "The Farming Game", self published by a farmer in Washington state.

DreadPirateRandy -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (8/9/2008 1:43:56 AM)

RISK, but only if it's human RISK.

Apples to Apples is another fun game, with the right crowd.

mapachito13 -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (8/14/2008 5:36:12 AM)

Monopoly - the ultimate capitalist board game.
Scrabble - brain power required
Chess - hundreds of years of family fun and still one of the best strategy game
Card games - especially Cribbage (addicted with no support group to turn to [:D]) and UNO
RISK is also a contender. Along with Clue and Battleship.

We put a spin on Scrabble once in a while. We have "theme night" when all words must be in a certain theme, such as construction, moving objects, transpotation, hollywood, etc. and we let everyone have two extra letters in their tray.

lotta fun.

Beanteaser -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (8/14/2008 5:48:57 PM)

I love any crowd pleasing games such as Balderdash and Cranium. Strategy games are also fun for me but aren't very good for large crowds. I hate games that are like skip-bo and uno. You can't do anything for multiple rounds if you don't have the right cards. Plus the "punishment" cards are based solely on how they are dealt.....no strategy involved there. That equals boring for me. I played Jenga last week with some family members. It's a decent game and is fun to take pictures during the game. I took a couple when the tower actually fell. Great reaction shots! [:D]

My favorite game of all time is called "mao." The rules vary from place to place which makes it more exciting. You are only told the object of the game, which is to get rid of all your cards. The catch is you have to learn the rules as you go. If you don't obey the rules, you get penalized more cards until you do it right. A few people hate the game because they fail to catch on but usually we play the game for hours at a time because people are having too much fun.

I love games like Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Ingenious, Blokus, Samurai, etc. We're big on board games! Basically, anything that comes from a specialty game store. [:D]

TorchHeart -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (8/26/2008 10:05:13 PM)

What's the "Boardwalk" of that version? Do the prices reflect the same prices as in the original? I have heard that some of the newer versions have "updated" pricing for the properties.

I have the Pittsburgh Steelers version as well as the classic.

AlphaCentauri -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (8/28/2008 7:21:48 AM)

I voted monopoly. It's always been a favourite game of mine.

yeah it's sad a 4 year old game like ttr is labeled as new but when compared to the same old games that stores have sold for decades, it's fairly accurate. i think most of that list is up there because that is main choice american consumers have. please can play ttr for free online at daysofwonder.com can watch how to play video, only takes a few minutes to learn and will be lots of fun.

speaking of farming games, have you played agricola yet? i've read so many good things about it, not sure it's available yet unless you've pre-ordered.

my fave game now might be saint petersburg or puerto rico / san juan

PopsiLufsJesus -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (9/18/2008 11:32:32 PM)

Life on a Farm! yay :D *two of your cows just got stuck by lightening!

rogasinger4Him -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (9/19/2008 12:21:26 AM)

Risk, Monopoly, Sorry!, Life, Stratego. Scrabble, Trival Pursuit, Backgammon

Used to play checkers a bunch with my grandad and his friends years ago. I rarely ever could win a game against any of them old men.

PopsiLufsJesus -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (9/19/2008 12:23:16 AM)

Oh Roga, you reminded me. I love, love, love RISK!

rogasinger4Him -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (9/19/2008 12:31:16 AM)

Back in my college days we'd have all night Risk games. The early losers had to make the run to Krystal's for munchies.

PopsiLufsJesus -> RE: Name your favorite board/table games (9/19/2008 12:43:51 AM)

Sounds like an AWESOME night and morning to me. Of course, because I would be the winner! Actually, I haven't won very many times...I like the Lord of the Rings version and the Starwars version
