We ask our parishoners to come unscented. No perfume, no scented deodorant, that kind of thing.

We're a handshaking church. The only people I've ever kissed in church were my mother and sisters.

You're kidding???

The only two days I do wear a scent are Saturday and Sunday.

We are huggers and handshakers, depending on your relationships. *shrug*

I guess it all depends if you leave a long trail of smoke after you walk.

There used to be this lady that sang in my choir. Even though she was shorter than me I put her on the back row so I couldn't smell her perfume. Otherwise I couldn't sing, much less direct.

Tink,

In choir we're asked not to because of allergy reasons (standing that close to other ppl). Also, the heat from the lights magnifies every scent. I've gotten used to not wearing any scents for that reason, but I still love to pull something out on occasion...

In choir I can understand, but regular parishoners?

It could possibly be for similar reasons (in church, you are often fairly close to a whole bunch of other people).

Good luck enforcing it, though...

The problem is not in people like you who wear just a hint of fragrance. The problem is with people like one of my formoer co-workers who used to marinate in the stuff. She'd walk into a room and airways would close down all over in self defense.

next thing you need a fragrance committee to report people and if they offend a certain number of people over a certain number of weeks, someone would have to talk to them. i also find men can be just as bad as women too so i think this problem is universal ...

Some people react quite badly to even small amounts of scent, and it seems we have a couple in the congregation.

At my church, stewards greet us at the doors. And the 60+ gentleman, insists on kissing women, he shakes your hand and pulls you in for the kiss.

I give him my cheek, I don't like kissing everyone on the lips. It feels almost too "intimate", for the lack of a better word.

Ewwwwwww, kissing everyone on the lips ... there'll be none of that. I'm going to have to put my hand in your face if you zero in with that intention. Kiss the hand, cause the lips ain't available! ewwwww (shudder) don't even want to think of people going there.

I don't think that's a holy kiss. ewwwwwwwwwwwww .

Reminds me of that horrid host on the old Family Feud. He used to be lip kissing everyone ... that is SO inappropriate. ewwwwwwww
