Here is a new McCain campaign ad:The One

Has anyone else seen this? What do you think?

Personally, I think McCain is making a big mistake. This ad talks about Obama like the Messiah and never once mentions McCain.

Even though the ad tries to make fun of Obama, the fact that Obama is all over the ad it looks almost like an endorsement of the Messiah... I mean Obama.

I suspect this may backfire on McCain. What do you think?

If that's a real McCain ad, that's the most curious political ad I've ever seen in my life. Does McCain want to win? I'm seriously beginning to wonder.

That is exactly my thought.

This campaign is getting stranger and stranger.

Sadly, I'm beginning to think McCain has lost his way. He just may be eight years past his peak. Or, the campaign will work out the bugs and hit stride after Labor Day.

Wow! How petty and desperate can you get. Despite the fact that I would not vote for him because I believe his policies would be a continuation of President Bush's (and thus a Bush 3rd term), I have never lost respect for the man until now. Sad, very sad

Just to be clear... although I agree that this is a very stupid, misguided, or as you said - petty ad, I could never lose respect for a man with a history of service to his country like John McCain.

I am truly disappointed because I thought this is the kind of ad McCain objected to. I thought he was above that kind of stuff.

I guess I'm saying that I still, and will always , respect the man - but I am disappointed.

Well, this ad can't be more bizarre than the Obama-Britney spot. When I saw that I wondered if it wasn't an SNL parody.

I think your response is very telling, Dub.

IMO, McCain is taking a big gamble by seemingly breaking from his former pledge not to allow his campaign to get down in the mud. After all, when one begins down that road it's awfully hard to wash off the grime.

WOW, I really think McCain should just quit making ads against Obama.

I guess the "Celebrity" one wasn't too bad, though. Everybody was so focused on the other (female) celebrities, to get any of it t seemed.
I think McCain was trying to say that Obama (like the ad's name) is becoming very much a celebrity, everybody seems to like him a lot. Maybe he could have done a better job at picking celebrities, but does it really matter?? People should really think about the question though: Is Obama really ready to be the leader of our counrty?

I Disagree. McCain has plenty of different thoughts on what should be done in our country/has different ideas on issues.

Maybe so, maybe no; the poll numbers are swinging big time towards McCain in the last week.

It reflects in video what the Washington Post's Dana Milband wrote on June 30;

quote:

Barack Obama has long been his party's presumptive nominee. The Washington Post's Dana Milbank writes that now he's becoming its presumptous nominee

I thought it was a great parody of the way B. Hussein Obama has been actiong and is being treated by his 'Believers". (as evidenced by all the obama kool-aid drinkers that have posted in this thread).

Thanks

Not surprising that you would see McCain's mocking of Christianity's true savior as a humorous parady. Makes one wonder if you would have felt the same way if the Obama camp had come out with this. Guess the straight-talk campaign has gone off the deep end.

While you will always have extremists and wackos in any campaign, Obama supporters are are nothing like the Reagan worshippers of the 90's who thought Reagan walked on water or the current Bush supporters who believe President Bush gets his commands from God.

Funny how some people forget that; when he ran for office in 2000, the way his evangelical base upheld him I would have thought GW Bush was the second coming.

However, if you really want to see imagery of an elected official treated like a proverbial golden calf, check out the documentary "Jesus Camp."

In one scene, a group of kids flock around a life-size cardboard cutout of Bush while crying, praying aloud, and all but speaking in tongues before it.

Political idol worship, indeed.

There are people so blinded by hate for Obama that they want him defeated at all costs. Even if it means allowing a professed non-believer like McCain to mock Godly men like Moses as well as our Savior.

Julius:

Is it your opinion that many Christians will be offended by the McCain camp's call to use a major Christian figure to score political points in a TV ad?

(This is actually an open question; anyone who has a response to this question, feel free to chime in)

It's interesting reading through the comments made about the McCain's ad campaign against Obama.

Though I would agree that the spots are a bit vague, and risking, but I think many are missing the very important point(s) that the ads are trying to make.

1. Obama has no real plan on how to deal with the issues he will face as president, because he chooses to talk about himself and change without any specifcs about either one.

2. Though some degree of some self importance and self rightousness is good for a presidential candidate, the way Obama sees himself, and his supporters see him, is way over the top. It is too unrealistic and arrogant.

3. Obama and his supporters are not really fooling any rational, realistic, thinking voter. Obama is clearly not the man this country needs in the Oval Office.

For all those that undoubtedly may come back with comments about Bush, please point out when Bush has expressed the kind of opinions about himself and his abilities to lead that Obama has made.

Are not you a little confused Evangel70, it is B. Hussein Obama who is trying to usurp the position of savior of the world.

It is very evident especially with statements such as "We are the ones we have been waiting for", along with all the other grandios rhetoric.

Thanks

Peter_Gunn,
Get real.

McCain is a smart man. He knows that, during this election cycle, Americans are tending to go left. The question that will be decided in November is how far left America is willing to go.

Obama clearly represents the far left.

I believe that McCain is convinced that America knows, as it always has, that it can not afford to go that far left in any way shape or form no matter how bad they may feel they are.

Now I'm confused. How is that statement evidence he's trying to "usurp the position of savior of the world."?

"You see, the challenges we face will not be solved with one meeting in one night. It will not be resolved on even a Super Duper Tuesday. Change will not come if we wait for some other person or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. We are the hope of those boys who have so little, who've been told that they cannot have what they dream, that they cannot be what they imagine. Yes, they can."

He said WE preacher, not "I".

Now what if Obama had said,

'I feel like God wants me to run for President. I can't explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me. Something is going to happen... I know it won't be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it.'

I'm not going to tell you who said that, I think you know. But what has Obama said that sounds more presumptuous than that?

Maybe some people wished Obama were a little more humble. Maybe if he held his head down, grinned a little more, shuffled his feet, said stuff like, "aw shucks, boss, I ain't no president. I'm just a basketball player and an entertainer. I'm just running for president so Mr. McCain will have a lil competition, that's all. Fact is, I'm voting for Mr. McCain myself." Maybe that would make some people a little more tolerant of this guy.

People are offended that people like him, that he has confidence, that he inspires people? But I guess you hate him so much you don't care what tactics McCain uses - even outright lies, misrepresentations and blasphemy. The end justifies the means.

1. Inspires people to do what?

Inspires people to do nothing but carry on class warfare by blaming everything on the rich, the oil companies, etc, etc?

Inspires people to blame the present administration for everything?

Inspires people to do nothing but complain and demand more help and more help from the government so they could feel less and less responsible for the way they live their lives?

2. What change does he realy offer?

Is he advocating for people to become more active and more responsible towards and for one another and less on the government?

Is he advocating that people turn complete control of their lives and money over to the government so that the government could solve each and every one of their problemss so they do not have to?

3. Who is it that is talking about hate?

Since when has disagreement been seen as the same thing as hate?

Who is it that calls our present administration names and claims that a McCain presidency is only going to be a continuation of the same?

4. Tactics?

What presidential candidate seems to be always limiting the scope of any discussion, or criticism of him, his family, or people he has been associated with?

McCain's problem (as some see it) is that he refuses to get personal. He refuses to get as dirty as his opponents. His tactic seems to be to let his opponent dig his own hole by revealing how he is not able and ready to hold the office he is running for.

5. Lies?

How can using the person's own words be considered a lie?

6. The ends justify the means?

So it is perfectly all right for a presidential candidate and his supporters to claim, and intimidate that if Obama looses it is not going to be because of his stand on issues, it is solely going to be because of race, but it is not alrght to point out how arrogant Obama and his supporters are?

7. Blasphemy?

What blasphemy, and who is it that is really doing it?

This past week I think it's become clear that McCain's only strategy is childish mocking, and this tops the Britney ad as far as juvenile smears completely lacking in substance go.
