And Sarah ... I suffer from SAS too!!! (short arm syndrome ... can reach easily to pull a child out of danger, but can't reach more than two feet above your head to grab a jar from the cupboard)

LOL...I have seriously short arms....I mean so short that even when not pregnant I can not reach the floor while in a chair just bending over. I can almost reach the top of my foot...if I stretch my arm....lol. My 8yo's arm is longer then mine if we stand shoulder to shoulder...lol. Sad...very sad...lol. (I have short legs too....in most chairs I can't put my feet flat on the floor....so I guess it's best that my arms are short or I might look like an ape...lol)

that is just.... ...about hubby's job Kara!!!!

Sarah--I *love* your new avatar pic. Adorable. Does he have red hair or is that just the lighting of the picture?

he does have reddish hair!!!! I hope he keeps it...it's kind of light brown with a red tint....the more sun the redder it looks though. I always said I wanted a red headed kid!!! (My mom is red headed...and in my family everyone is either red headed after the scotch irish or dark dark brown/black hair after the american indian)

I love that show!!!!

Apparently I am the weirdo around here since I am the only one who cleans during naptime...lol

I do some of my cleaning when the kids are napping. I don't really like getting interrupted cleaning, but I don't mind getting interrupted during me time. Timmy is almost 3 so he helps pretty good...putting stuff in the dishwasher with me, putting little pieces of garbage in the dust pan while I'm sweeping, but Jimmy...well, frankly he gets in the way because he's only 14 months. He undoes a lot of what I do, pulls stuff out of the dishwasher while I'm putting stuff in, trying to grab the broom or the yucky stuff that the broom gets. I remember that with Timmy too. But, soon enough he'll be able to help me like his big brother. But, I absolutely will not load the dishwasher while Jimmy is awake unless he's stuck in his high chair eating.

No successful pees in the potty today. I don't think he likes that it's in the bathroom now because he hasn't gone pee in there since we moved it from the living room.

Jael was like that too until I got her to understand that when I'm loading the dishwasher that it's "D I R T Y!!" LOL! When she tries to crawl into the dishwasher while I'm loading it all I have to say now is "Yuck! Dirty!" and she goes on about her business!

Haha Chelle, you are not weird at all! If you find it easiest to clean up when your little dude is asleep then that is cool!

Awww Yolanda! What a pain for your period to come like that.... Well, I guess you guys could always have one of those on purpose accidents next month. By the way that made me laugh. You silly girl you!

jack doesn't nap well if the house is unsettled....so while it doesn't have to be absolute quiet it can't be a lot of people up doing a lot at that time either.

Chelle- one word of caution- don' t do so much cleaning while he is sleeping that he doesn't learn how to help. Eleni will be 5 in November and I am realizing that I need to make her do more, which also means I need to be the example that she can see too. I know he's a little guy still, but he is watching! She does basic things, but she can do a lot more than she does- and she's going to have to with another on the way!

Yolanda- yuck! At least you'll have the test on hand for your next question time... but it is still disappointing. I find negative tests (or lack of reason to take them) discouraging no matter when they occur....

Kara - I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's job! He is still getting parental benefits though right?

I don't nap when Akeelah is napping. I try to just rest and go on the computer or read then, but if I nap, I'll be up late into the night. But most times I end up doing stuff that needs to be done around the house, that Akeelah won't let me do when she's awake.

Yolanda - what a story! At least you won't have to go through all this the next time!

I went grocery shopping today and ended up getting some lady angry at the produce guy. I didn't mean to. I went to get green beans, which are grown in Ontario. But the sign said Product of USA. So I decided to get broccoli instead and the sign said Product of Canada, but the elastic on it said Product of the USA. So I asked the produce guy what the deal was and where it was from. He explained the mix-up and that he hadn't changed the signs but both products were from the US. All of a sudden this lady next to me throws her bagged broccoli back onto the pile and yells to him "this is from the US? I don't want that! Your sign says Canada!" The guy and I looked at each other as if to say "wasn't that just explained?" I quietly left at that point, apologizing to the guy.

That was the most interesting part of my day. In a few minutes, we'll leave for swimming, again.

ROFL!! Well...if they drink bathwater (like mine do...soap and all) then watercolor water isn't really that different!

Why would anyone be upset about US produce? That's just ridiculous! Here in the US we import a lot of our produce from Central/South America because their seasons are different than ours so we can get 'off season' fruit/veggies year round. It's a blessing...

I'm actually offended and sickened by the lady at your grocery store...and I don't even know her...her attitude is disgusting...

Actually, it's not about being upset about US produce. I didn't buy it because it's US produce. We grow a lot of our own produce here in Ontario, why should I buy green beans that have been driven in from the US when I can support local farmers? Obviously we have to import a lot of our produce, and of course it's a blessing, but I'm going to take the opportunity to buy local when I can, and I don't think there is anything disgusting about that.

Ditto here.

I HATE that cali grows what, 60% of the produce in this country?? and Yet I constantly see "grown in chile, brazil, timbuktu" on food here.. that i KNOW is grown in this state.

Makes me mad.

Makes me that much more determined to go to farmers market this weekend and buy LOCAL and ORGANIC.

Many people like to buy local. I don't blame them.

I'd rather not import at all. I'm sure I'd feel the same if I lived elsewhere unless where I lived had no decent produce at all.

I didn't say that 'supporting local' is disgusting...but rather that her attitude against the US was...if the green beans that were shipped in from the US were cheaper than the ones grown locally would you still 'only by local'?

I stand by what I said...the lady at your store was horrid in her attitude and was 'elitist' and wrong...

Then you'd be paying exponentially more for your produce and denying other countries the ability to sustain themselves...

if the beans were local and cost me more YES I would still buy them, I want to support MY local farmers as much as I can.

You can stand by what you said Kim, but I guess you can consider me elitist as well. If local produce was more expensive than the American ones (which it sometimes is) then yes I would still by local. Honestly, I'm tired of going to the store and seeing Product of USA on things that we make right here in Canada. I'm tried of Canadian products being more expensive than American ones here. Aren't you tired of seeing Made In China on things that can be made in the US? Aren't you tired of American jobs being outsourced to Asia?

The lady's (and my) attitude was not against the US, it was against the produce, the same stuff we grow here and should be sold here, and the fact that it isn't. We have a local economy to support. But hey if supporting MY OWN country and not someone else's makes me elitist and wrong....then I'll take that.

But what about my local farmers? the farmers who struggle yearly to stay in business? I"m not going to sacrifice them to help another country.

I'm not going to debate that here.

I'll just say that I like to support as local to me as possible. I like to help the little guys when I can. Yes, I will pay more to do so when it is possible and within my budget, just like I will pay more for healthier ingredients (which local is healthier in many instances). I like to know where my food comes from. I don't like buying things shipped in from Mexico. In fact, I refuse to buy many produce items due to where they are from and the sanitary conditions in those places. I also refuse to buy other things imported from China. Is that elitist too, or is it just when it's someone being upset over US stuff?

I don't understand the mentality that wanting to support your own community is elitist.

But Canada exports their produce too...and no, I'm not tired of seeing Made in China on toys/other goods because you know what that means? It means that we're a more productive society! Let us (the USA) go more service based and be wealthier than a manufacturing nation like (India and other places) making minimum wage...Why should we be stuck making things that we can have someone else make for cheaper? Freeing up those 'jobs/workers' for better possibilities while simultaneously giving much needed work opportunities to nations with little/no prospects! You don't see blacksmiths around anymore do you? There's a reason for that...

Also...if a person is going to be 'elitist' and anti-importing/exporting then which car are you going to drive? There's no 'made local' Canadian car...

As for me...I'll always go for the cheaper produce...it frees up my money to go other places...plus there's no such thing as a 'struggling' farmer here in the US...they all get subsidies from the gov't. to grow a certain amount...

*Sigh* I wish everyone were made to take an Economics class from my husband...

I am feeling yucky as the day goes on and we have company coming and my poor hubby hasn't had any of my time this week....

I buy whatever Kroger sales and I don't have a clue where it comes from. I only buy what looks fresh and good to eat. We do not have a farmer's market close and all the produce stands around are questionable. I do want to research though and try to find some local farms that allow you to pick your own. I did that with strawberries this year and they were so yummy!
