My husband and I had a conversation about this sort of thing coming down from the mountains... we saw a Lamborghini or something (there are a lot of really fancy cars in the mountains).

He asked if I knew how much it was worth, then told me at least $200k. Paraphrasing the ensuing conversation:

"Who pays that for a car?"

"I dunno, it's a nice car."

"But you can get a nice car for so much cheaper, and cars can get, you know, smooshed and keyed and stuff."

"Well, I'm sure they have insurance. *pause* Though the payment on that is probably more than our house payment."

"I would never buy a car that expensive."

"If you have way more money than you know what to do with, why not?"

"Well, for one thing that's like a dozen Compassion kids for their entire sponsored life."

"Huh. Good point..."

I guess at some point I think it just becomes ridiculous.

Though it's hard to say where that is, because there are people in some countries that consider our modest lives and the fact that we even HAVE a car (even if it is over ten years old) to be fabulously wealthy.

So, I guess our responsibility is to do what we can, when we can, with what God lays on our hearts.

So my question is. What if after years of just being so broke that I am completely worn out and unbelievably tired of it. That I get a lot of money and just buy a ton of nice stuff.
Nothing crazy. Like a $200,000 car. Maybe just for once I'd buy a new car right off the lot with a ten year 100,000 mile warranty. But a simple car that fits my needs.
Or a nice flat panel T.V. a big one but not like "wall sized". A new computer and a nice house in a nice area. New furniture...
Man I could make a 6 page list of the stuff I want.

Just say I went crazy and bought all the stuff I see everyone around me taking advantage of because they simply don't know what they have.

Would it hurt me morally to have all this stuff all at once?

That depends on how your attitudes and actions change with your new possessions.

Also, I hope you're suing somebody (or at least got insurance) for the car. That's insane.

-Dan.

I cant say how my attitude will be. I'm guessing I'd be a lot happier but, thats just a guess. hehe
Cant say if I'd let it go to my head. Don't think I would. I think it would take me a while to get use to it and that would be my biggest issue.
Doing things like, "Oh yeah... Thats my car" or "Oh wait I can make it out to my brothers house this weekend 60 miles away."

No, I'm not suing anyone. It's not very Christian. I was two months behind on my insurance payment and the insurance company canceled it. You know, any other time they'd let me pay them back payments, which they have in the past.
When you're this broke things do slip bill wise.

You know what I found weird. About 6 months ago I sent a letter to a big Christian Network Offering to drive a car around in a Jesus ad. Like I mentioned above. I gave them an estimate for a car, wrap and slogan for about 10 grand. Pretty cheap in my mind, considering it included the car and everything. They sent me a letter a few weeks ago, I was thinking God was answering my prayers for a new car.. Anyway they turned me down.
They wont spend ten grand promoting Jesus on a car I planned on keeping for the next five years, but they'll spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on one show thats made for one reason and one reason only. To get them more cash.

I think the first thing one would need to realize is that although it seems like more money than anyone would ever need, it's not really THAT much money. You should get with a planner immediately and set priorities. Invest it, be modest with it, and you'll be able to bless many people, for many years. And don't quit your job, because being wealthy is no excuse for being useless.

The Bible says to not cause divisiveness in church by suing other Christians - ostensibly, because we're supposed to take care of those matters ourselves.

It doesn't say anything about not suing non-Christians.

Was anybody at least arrested?

No one was arrested. It was 3am and no one was hurt and the only thing lost was the car. Considering it is an apartment complex, plenty of people were lighting off fireworks.
I have to admit, I am sad the car is gone but it wont help anything if I get worked up over who done it. Especially when it was most likely someone just trying to have harmless fun celebrating the 4th.

I look at it this way. If I were to press charges or sue, I for sure wouldn't be able to give witness to that person. I'm not saying I'm like this with every non-Christian or Christian, that does me wrong.
But God will take care of me, it might have been my car but it was still "just" a car.
If it were a family member or a person in "general" hurt in the fire, then I'd be irate.
God isn't going to bless me if I brood over it.
Suing and trying to put someone in jail will only drag out the bad emotions you don't want as a Christian.
The car has been scrapped and its out of my life now. The only reminder I have of it is the fact that I'm carless. Which may make me kind of sad. But at least I'm not sad about a car and mad at a person and going through all the trouble of making them pay some how.
