Family harmonies are beautiful. I guess because of the similarities in voices, they just seem to blend so nicely.

I'm pretty sure that's the reason. When Emily and I would sing at church growing up, people would say that we sounded like there were more than two of us singing.

Women don't have a common natural range because everyone is different.

Perhaps I could have written "average" instead of "common."

I don't know... I don't like to see either the word "common" nor "average" in the same sentance with "women."

Here's a sentence from the article I linked earlier that may be the answer you are looking for if you meant "common." If you meant average, there's not enough info in the article to run the math.
quote:

The mezzo-soprano is the most common female voice.

Mezzo-soprano range: The mezzo-soprano voice lies between the soprano voice and contralto voice, over-lapping both of them. The typical mezzo-soprano range is between A3 (the A below middle C) to A5 (the A two octaves above A3). In the lower and upper extremes, some mezzo-sopranos may extend down to the G below middle C (G3) and as high as "high C" (C6).[6]

I'm sorry, Covenant, but you still misunderstand me. I was asking about voices. The average range of the average woman's voice. It is unimportant. Believe me. I was simply curious if someone knew. Let's just drop it, because it looks like something I don't want to take any further.

I thought of another thing I enjoy about being a woman--dancing! I love ballet and other kinds of dance, and I enjoy being the partner that gets to be lifted into the air. It's so much fun! It wouldn't be nearly as much fun if I had to do the lifting.

Dance. Dance! I can't dance. And I don't even appreciate dancing! I feel like a huge part of something is missing as a result. If someone asks me to watch another dance, I can't figure out why I should. I just stand or sit there and wonder why. I think that is just plain sad.

I don't care too much about watching other people dance, either, but only because I want to be a part of it! It's no fun sitting on the sidelines. If I can't participate I have no interest in it.

Really??? Is that the way it is for most or is that mainly you and me?

Hmm, I don't know. I'm that way about a lot of things. I don't think everyone is, though, because if everyone was like me there would be no such thing as sports on TV. I hate watching sports. I like to be involved.

I prefer to watch because I'm a total clutz... but I think that's because I long to be able to dance well and wish I had learned as a child so it would come naturally and I could join in. I have a lot of respect for people who can do thing well that I am a numbskull at!!

Do you not ice skate, HisCovenant? I always thought you were a skater, because of your avatar! If you don't, I'm going to have to change my whole impression of you!

You?? A Clutz?? I never could have imagined that! I am telling you: people's Avatars really affect who I think they are and what I think of them! I don't know why I am so easily influenced!

I do skate and started at 27 yo (or was I 28?) I am amazed at how far I've come, but compared to the kids and adults who were athletes as kids (especially dancers) I am a bumbling baffoon. My coach says I am very good and don't give myself enough credit, but I am paying him!! It's his job to encourage me. I'm not sure how much of what he says is kindness and how much is unvarnished truth.

Oh, the humanity! The despair! I am going to have to rewrite my whole mental book on you!

I LOVE being a woman One thing I like is to put on lip gloss ( btw my fav is bath and body works ;) Wearing dresses, nice under clothes etc. The thought of having a husband and being pregnant. Not really having to be a leader or provider. I tend to help my family dont get me wrong but I rather someone lead like God and my hubby

I'm glad to hear that you skate! If you can skate, you're not a clutz. I tried skating once and I can't even stand up straight on ice skates. It amazes me that people can actually dance on those things!

What I like is when Mary just can't get comfortable when daddy is holding her, then he will give her to me. She will just lay her head on my shoulder and zonk right out. Gotta love those mommy curves!!

Hmm, I'm not sure why I hated singing first soprano. I always liked the other parts better for some reason. They were easier as well as more fun.

I guess part of it was that the only other true first soprano had a very powerful voice (think opera) and I have a much softer voice, so I felt like she could totally carry the part herself and having me in it was pointless.

I sort of miss those singing days though. Not to gloat, but we sounded so good (had a great pro musician for a teacher... my dad ). I don't, however, miss being on stage. I really should train again. I've gotten lazy with my voice. My dad would disapprove.

Speaking of family members and voices, my mom and I sound good together.
