Dozermom, you can buy Kefir grains at the health food store to make your own Kefir. I have been making my own for awhile and it's quite tasty.

Also, if you really like Hummus then try finding dried chick peas, they are much cheaper then the canned ones and they aren't hard to "reconstitute".

Thank you, Mrs. Wifey. I just made my own kefir for the first time yesterday. How do you sweeten yours? I can't have sugar. I made a smoothie this morning with the kefir and frozen blueberries. It could use a bit of a sweeter taste.

How do you reconstitute the dried chick peas? Thanks!

You may want to try agave syrup, which is a wonderful natural sweetner ~ a very little goes a long way.

Edited to add the word 'natural'.

At first I used Coconut milk to sweeten it a little, I don't really like any artificial sweeteners so I don't really use them(and I eat low-carb) so with most things I have found that I just adapt. I find that if I don't let it set for longer then 24 hours that it doesn't need extra sweetener, and longer and it's to tart.

Oh, you can buy dried chickpeas at Walmart, I forgot about that... You just boil them according to the directions. I soak overnight, boil for about 30 minutes, then simmer for a couple hours.

I think you can actually make kefir with coconut milk. You can read more about kefir HERE.

Yup, you can make it with Coconut milk, juice, water, etc... The only thing is that it will most likely make your grains stop "growing", so I wouldn't do it with milk grains unless you have enough for two batches.

monamie, when you did your yeast cleanse, how long did you have die-off symptoms for? When is it "safe" to add some milk back in?

I had already detoxed quite a bit by the time I began the candid cleanse so a few weeks was all it took. I think that when I had felt better for several days is when I added back GOOD starches and carbs. Since then I stay with a whole foods diet. Carbs are fine for me as long as they're from fruit or honey or milk (I only buy raw milk). But if I eat refined sugar, it's immediate heartburn and I just feel yucky.

Truth be told, I think most people do, but because they feel yucky most of the time, they don't realise it. It's only when people have made a change (for any reason) the penny drops.

My immune system has really taken a hit fighting all the toxins released by the yeast dying off. I'm really trying to boost my immune system by eating foods with vitamin C, etc. I think I just hit it too hard, too fast with the "cold turkey" diet and yeast-away enzymes all at once.

We went on vacation for four days (got back Tuesday), and I must say I did very well, considering we had to sometimes eat at 2 different restaurants (drive-thru) so I could get what I could eat. I also took food in a cooler, so that helped as well. I'm sure the 12-hrs of walking on Sunday and 10-hrs of walking on Monday probably have a lot to do with me being so worn out the past few days. It was good for me, but my body was 'tired' going into it. We had a great time, though!

Weird thing is, you'd think I would be losing a lot of weight eating so well and drinking so much water. I've lost maybe 6-8 pounds in the last almost-five weeks, and the first 5 were lost in the first week. I am still very 'bloaty' in my stomach/intestinal area, so maybe I'm retaining water? Weight-loss isn't my first goal in all this, getting well and eating well is. I was just curious as to why I hadn't lost more. Strange.

I would have thought you'd lose more too, but that may come in time.

I got to meet tvmcdugle yesterday. She's a lovely lady with a sweet family. That's the second time I've been privileged met personally meet someone from the forums.

I just found a great website HERE that has a ton of information on beating candidiasis. There is even a forums section for asking questions. I'm going to be reading the whole thing tonight after I get home.

I weighed myself this morning and I've lost 13 pounds in the five weeks I've been on the candida diet. It must just come in spurts.

Thanks for this...I've started reading it and will continue to do so as I have time. A lot of it reiterates what I've been doing/reading.

Cool, it has a recipe area! I'll have to check into that!

It also has great itemized, color-coded food lists for the candida diet - Green for OK foods, Orange for Limit Foods, and Red for Avoid Foods. That's helpful. (I printed it out)

Well, I'm just finishing up 7 weeks of this anti-yeast diet. I can't say I've been perfect, but I'm doing very well. I haven't had anything with sugar in all those weeks. I've also been really concentrating on building up my immune system. That seems to be helping. I'm still having the die-off symptoms occasionally, but not nearly as severe as before. I've also lost 18 pounds, which is a plus since I would be considered well overweight. Slow but sure I'm feeling more healthy. I just have to keep plugging at it...
