Hi, Daisies! I've done calligraphy in the past, although I'm certainly not an expert. I think it's perfectly fine for you to make up your own calligraphy style. That's not tacky -- it's downright creative! [sm=frenchsmile.gif]
I've learned a couple of different styles over the years -- one from a class, another from a do-it-yourself kit. But I think there are many variations out there, so it's certainly OK to add another one.
