Call it a marital health day -- appreciating the blessing God has given you. That is also an act of worship... and very good for ones spiritual health.

I did not get to see Brian walk today. They did the thorough evaluation for his leg and hip, which took the whole time, so he did no actual work today. I really wanted to see him walk and now I will have the kids with me again next week, so we won't go in.

I've been crying a lot today. I can't even articulate why. I need a vacation. I just booked the hotel room, and even splurged and got a hotel that was $20 more than a few others I found, but is right on one of the Finger Lakes. I hope it's a beautiful day when I'm there. I'm looking forward to sitting by the lake.

Up, down, up, down, up down...that was me in church today. Levi was in need of a cage, Esther would not stop pooping, and so I was in the service very little. I hate that. Levi goes to the nursery, but not until the middle of the service and he didn't make it that long today. And then as soon as he was gone, Esther started her thing. Oh well...life as a mom, I guess.

We'll have a funeral to go to this week, for a man in our church. Brian was close to him, and his wife is dear to us all. By Friday, we'll be more than ready for a vacation. The kids are going to be farmed out Friday night because we have to leave super early Saturday.

I think tomorrow we're going to the zoo. The boys don't have school, Nick is here until tomorrow night, and we haven't used our membership since before Brian's accident. Normally, he's not a big fan of the zoo, but he seems excited to go tomorrow. Not sure if he'll be able to wheel himself around, but if he can't, Noah or I can push him and the other one push Levi's stroller. It's been beautiful weather the past few days, so hopefully it is tomorrow too.

Not sure if he could ride in one, but it would be nice if the zoo had motorized wheelchairs like they have at Walmart! That would make it easier for everyone.
Have a fun day!!

That would be nice. At least it's not a huge zoo. And he is wheeling with both arms now, so hopefully that will help. It'll be PT for the day, huh?

Just checking in, because I haven't made it here in a while! I voted for sleeping in too! I know what you mean about skipping church feeling odd, but sometimes it is what we need to do! I'm praying for a restful weekend with beautiful weather & inspiration for Brian at the conference and fun for the kids at their various "farms" !!

Have fun at the zoo tomorrow!!!

A friend of mine was from the finger lakes area. He was a Seneca, and his nickname was 'Injun'. He was quite a character, having spent time in the military in Antarctica, in Cuba during the missile crisis, and Viet Nam. He had a lot of stories to tell.

Injun said that there is a legend that the finger lakes were formed when God touched the earth to start it spinning.

Hi Donna! So good to hear things are progressing so well. I do hope you enjoy your weekend. I've been away. I was in Key West last week for my sister's wedding Friday (under the arch in my avvy, BTW). It was just beautiful.

Oh, and I agree with everyone else. You and Brian take care of you and Brian!

I was thinking about you and Brian today, Donna. I was rear-ended by a schoolbus, and the driver even admitted to the cop that she knew the brakes were faulty. We're okay, but I kept thinking about Brian and the tractor ... and praised God once again that he is doing as well as he is.

Yikes, Kara! Glad you're okay! Good grief on a bus driver knowing her brakes weren't working and driving anyway... (How is your vehicle?)

I saw Brian walk today. I was excited! Improvement, even small ones, is good to see! He...acted like he wished I didn't come watch him. I think he doesn't feel like a man or something, having to start all over with learning to walk. It was very hard for him to have me watch him struggle to walk across a room with a walker and with two people to help catch him if he were to fall. My tears of joy changed to tears of heartbreak for him very quickly. We haven't talked about it and I don't know how to convince him that I love HIM, not the paycheck he used to bring in, not how well his legs work, not even whether or not he can ever work again. I do hope he can walk again without thinking about it one day, and I think he will in time. Harder than the physical healing is the emotional stuff. I want him to know he is my man, I love him, and I think he is amazingly strong, even if he can't walk well yet. He shouldn't be ashamed for me to see him walk. Somehow I feel like I've failed him that he would even think he needed to be.

Can you print out what you just typed and give it to him? Would it be easier for the both of you to have it in print?

Donna, I think part of his feelings are totally normal as a man. Micah and I had many discussions about this very thing because of him deploying, and really because there is still a chance that he could get called back. I used to tell him that it didn't matter how he came home, or in what condition he was as long as he was still breathing. But to him that would be useless and I think his will included that I be allowed to divorce him without the usual legal waiting period Of course at that point we weren't married, so I could have really just walked away but it was "important"(to him) to have that in there in case he got tapped while he was still active.

Sometimes I think men are just as hard to understand as women.

(((hugs)))

They are.

You know, the whole way to the hospital, all I prayed was that he would live and not have a serious brain injury. To me, nothing else mattered as long as Brian was still Brian, KWIM? I just wanted him here physically and mentally.

And it's easy to say, "Well, it could have been much worse." But at the same time, it WAS pretty bad, even though he was certainly spared of many things that could have happened. Early on, I don't think either of us realized he would still be completely disabled three months later (Monday will be 3 months).

We've both gone through huge changes these past few months. As Brian said the other day...why would we want to go through something like this and still be the same as we were before? What would be the point then? So...change and grow, we will. But it's still not easy.

That wasn't directed at anyone...just thinking out loud.

Yes, you guys have been through so much, and growing and changing can be so good. I know that the new things will be awesome things of God. We will keep praying for Brian, and what he is going through, both physically and mentally. God bless!!

There's an amazing amount of wisdom in what he said.

I can understand that too Donna.
Men are so hardwired to be...well..men. It must be a struggle for him to not be able to do what 3 months ago required no thought and little effort....
But, he's getting there. And you are both an example of grace and peace through trial...that's for sure!

Totally understandable....I have had friend's hubby's get injured in Iraq and go through all of that. I have known women that got hurt too, but it didn't affect them like it does men.
