Don't you just love the way their little minds work? This is the first time I've ever been around a baby. I have no younger siblings, no cousins, my sister's baby is younger than Akeelah, and the nieces and nephews on Dh's side are all older than 7. So with that being said, it absolutely blows me away they way their little minds function, how they develop so independently, and how much capacity they actually have. When Akeelah said her first sentence, you would have thought she had gotten into medical school the way I was so I excited.

lexie When I had my ds, it was the first time I'd been around a baby as well (apart from holding my friend's baby once for a couple of minutes when I was a few months' pregnant). So I can relate!

ORIGINAL: BlessedMamaofmany I left the night-light in my bedroom off last night and I think that helped a lot. We'll see. Sandy Nathan's doctor always recommended a night light. She said older babies and toddler woke naturally at night, and having a night light helped reassure them. Of course, we had Nathan in his own crib by that time, but it's the same concept.

Our two were in their own cots from a week or two old, but they both had nightlights - ones that were built into plugs and went straight into the socket (outlet). My ds's had a dinosaur pic on it from Land Before Time and kept it till he was about 7!

Oops. Oh well, she has had no sleep problems so I guess we were lucky.

Sandy, our nightlight in our bedroom made it too light in there too, so I put a tall laundry basket in front of it. It helped a lot. Timmy's nightlight is Disney Cars (just like everything else in his room), and Jimmy's a sailboat that emits a blue light. Do ya'll do themes for your baby's/toddler's room? We don't have a theme for Jimmy's room because we don't know what he's into yet. His bumper and sheets are unisex actually, but I was thinking of putting family photos on the wall, or maybe an Elmo poster since he likes Elmo. Timmy's room is Disney Cars. He has Disney Cars posters, caledar, bedding set, curtains, nightlight and he has a blue race car bed. I tried putting all his little diecast Disney Cars on a shelf for decoration, but he wanted to play with them LOL! I think I like that we did it Disney Cars instead of Elmo because he'll probably grow out of Elmo before he grows out of Disney movies. Plus, Wal*Mart sells Disney Cars stuff cheaper than SesameStreet.com sells Elmo stuff.

We don't do commercial themes, so Gabby's room is done in pinks, turquoise, and green. Her toddler room will be a Shabby Chic style, I've already started picking stuff up as I see it, lol.

o ya'll do themes for your baby's/toddler's room? We did do a theme for his nursery which depending on if our next baby is a girl, it will also become his toddler room as well. If we have a boy next than Hunter will get a big boy room and I am not so sure I will do a theme in there. But, for his nursery we did the Zanzibar theme. They have toddler bedding as well as a twin size bedding set that matches the theme. Here are a couple of pictures of his nursery. We're doing something a bit risky. Nathan is getting a "big boy room" around Christmas, with a toddler bed, and we're keeping the nursery as a nursery for the new baby. The nursery is in blue, but it's really an unisex room. The "theme" is the night sky, with lots of stars, moons and comets and such. I'm not sure about Nathan's new room. Maybe Curious George, since he likes it so much? Or maybe a car themed room? But he hasn't shown much interest in cars to date. Awwww, Chelle, that pic of Hunter is so cute, even if he was a little unhappy at the time.

What a cute room Chelle! I love the safari animals theme. We had a classic Winnie the Pooh theme for Timmy's nursery, but he puked all over the bumper and sheets and it got stained permanently. Luckily people had given me like three other bumpers. I really like THIS set for Jimmy's room, and the primary colors will match nicely with Timmy's room when they move in together.

We didn't do a theme for Akeelah's room. We're renting and we didn't want to paint and we don't really have a lot of room for stuff. Plus her bedroom is the only storage place we have. Although, it's definitely starting to take on a Noah's Ark theme from the little things we have bought here and there. When we buy our house and she has her own room it won't have a specific theme but lately I've been thinking polka dots and bright colours. Actually I'm thinking this as a guide (my mom and I will make most of the stuff ourselves.)

We had/have a farm theme for the nursery (surprise, surprise, LOL). It was gender-neutral so we just used all the same stuff with both babies. We had a crib set with farm animals (it was from a boutique, very cute), sage green walls, some folk-paintings my mom did for us (with barn wood frames my Pa Pa made), etc. We still have most of it, though Isaac chose a Thomas the Train bedding set for his birthday to go on his toddler bed. So it's kind of out of place in the room, but he loves it, LOL.

Okay, Rachel, there's the avatar of his room. Notice the artwork all over the place! Goodness gracious!
