And may I say it's always nice to meet another family who baptizes their babies?

As opposed to meeting any of us heathens who don't?

*sigh* I think here at CW, I could say the sky is blue and still manage to offend someone. Who knew the Brits has such thin skins?

Glad to hear you had such a good night, Sandy! May it bet he first of many.

RUTH. How could you say the sky is blue?? How rude!

I'm hoping we're over the hump sleep-wise. I left the night-light in my bedroom off last night and I think that helped a lot. We'll see.

Not thin skin at all and not offended. It just seemed a strange thing to say.

Let's leave it there.

This is the first time I've ever been around a baby. I have no younger siblings, no cousins, my sister's baby is younger than Akeelah, and the nieces and nephews on Dh's side are all older than 7. So with that being said, it absolutely blows me away they way their little minds function, how they develop so independently, and how much capacity they actually have.

When Akeelah said her first sentence, you would have thought she had gotten into medical school the way I was so I excited.

When I had my ds, it was the first time I'd been around a baby as well (apart from holding my friend's baby once for a couple of minutes when I was a few months' pregnant). So I can relate!

Nathan's doctor always recommended a night light. She said older babies and toddler woke naturally at night, and having a night light helped reassure them. Of course, we had Nathan in his own crib by that time, but it's the same concept.

Our two were in their own cots from a week or two old, but they both had nightlights - ones that were built into plugs and went straight into the socket (outlet). My ds's had a dinosaur pic on it from Land Before Time and kept it till he was about 7!

My mom looked at us horribly when we told her that Akeelah was in her crib on her own from 5 days old, in pitch dark, with no music or mobiles or anything. Oops. Oh well, she has had no sleep problems so I guess we were lucky.

Ruth, I have a night-light in the hall for everyone to be able to see to get to the potty LOL. The outlet is right by my room, so it lets in a bit of light, and I have to leave my door open because Sissy gets up at night to find me quite often. So...we have a bit of dim light coming in. I had a night-light that I was turning on, but I think it was too much light...
I'm going to remember that though..if he starts getting upset at night, I'll turn it back on

Sandy, our nightlight in our bedroom made it too light in there too, so I put a tall laundry basket in front of it. It helped a lot.

Timmy's nightlight is Disney Cars (just like everything else in his room), and Jimmy's a sailboat that emits a blue light.

Do ya'll do themes for your baby's/toddler's room? We don't have a theme for Jimmy's room because we don't know what he's into yet. His bumper and sheets are unisex actually, but I was thinking of putting family photos on the wall, or maybe an Elmo poster since he likes Elmo.

Timmy's room is Disney Cars. He has Disney Cars posters, caledar, bedding set, curtains, nightlight and he has a blue race car bed. I tried putting all his little diecast Disney Cars on a shelf for decoration, but he wanted to play with them LOL! I think I like that we did it Disney Cars instead of Elmo because he'll probably grow out of Elmo before he grows out of Disney movies. Plus, Wal*Mart sells Disney Cars stuff cheaper than SesameStreet.com sells Elmo stuff.

We don't do commercial themes, so Gabby's room is done in pinks, turquoise, and green. Her toddler room will be a Shabby Chic style, I've already started picking stuff up as I see it, lol.

We did do a theme for his nursery which depending on if our next baby is a girl, it will also become his toddler room as well. If we have a boy next than Hunter will get a big boy room and I am not so sure I will do a theme in there. But, for his nursery we did the Zanzibar theme. They have toddler bedding as well as a twin size bedding set that matches the theme. Here are a couple of pictures of his nursery.

We're doing something a bit risky. Nathan is getting a "big boy room" around Christmas, with a toddler bed, and we're keeping the nursery as a nursery for the new baby. The nursery is in blue, but it's really an unisex room. The "theme" is the night sky, with lots of stars, moons and comets and such.

I'm not sure about Nathan's new room. Maybe Curious George, since he likes it so much? Or maybe a car themed room? But he hasn't shown much interest in cars to date.

Awwww, Chelle, that pic of Hunter is so cute, even if he was a little unhappy at the time.

What a cute room Chelle! I love the safari animals theme. We had a classic Winnie the Pooh theme for Timmy's nursery, but he puked all over the bumper and sheets and it got stained permanently. Luckily people had given me like three other bumpers.

I really like THIS set for Jimmy's room, and the primary colors will match nicely with Timmy's room when they move in together.

We didn't do a theme for Akeelah's room. We're renting and we didn't want to paint and we don't really have a lot of room for stuff. Plus her bedroom is the only storage place we have. Although, it's definitely starting to take on a Noah's Ark theme from the little things we have bought here and there.

When we buy our house and she has her own room it won't have a specific theme but lately I've been thinking polka dots and bright colours.
Actually I'm thinking this as a guide (my mom and I will make most of the stuff ourselves.)

We had/have a farm theme for the nursery (surprise, surprise, LOL). It was gender-neutral so we just used all the same stuff with both babies. We had a crib set with farm animals (it was from a boutique, very cute), sage green walls, some folk-paintings my mom did for us (with barn wood frames my Pa Pa made), etc. We still have most of it, though Isaac chose a Thomas the Train bedding set for his birthday to go on his toddler bed. So it's kind of out of place in the room, but he loves it, LOL.

my 'theme' is "whatever was handed down to me" for the most part, with a touch of "early thrift store finds" LOL

Mine too, mostly. Though I've been able to pull it together pretty nicely. My theme is "primary colors". Anything bright red, blue, green, or yellow.

Our girls room is Princess stuff or pink stuff...they love princess anything and they are the ones that chose it. The girl baby bedding we have is not princess, but it is definitely girly (lots of pink and doll houses I think). Their room is decorated in such a way though that for the cost of a few things (bedding and a few wall pieces) it could very easily change to something not princess related though (for when/if they grow out of it).
Jake's room is camo stuff. Jack really didn't have a "theme", just colors that happened to be the same (I don't know how that worked out cause it sure wasn't planned!!), so we are just going to make stuff to match Jake's stuff since they now share a room. It still needs a lot of work though to really look like a cohesive look in there. Our baby bedding when Jake was a baby was Noah's Ark...not by choice, but back then that's about all there was...Noah's Ark or Bears themed stuff, so we really didn't have much of a choice. I don't know what happened to that bedding over the years, but we don't have it anymore. Our boy/neutral baby stuff is yellows and blue's and bears related.

Hey, Ruth.....I was the one you intended the comment for and I appreciated it, thanks! And you're right -- the sky is definitely blue today!

Thanks for your support of me as a mom and of our little one.

Our baby's room has sage green walls. They were that color before we had him so we just left it, and the color works for a boy or a girl so we just kept it the same.

The only thing we really have left to do in there is to hang his artwork. He has some COOL artwork in there - in frames already even, but not hung up. Our house is 85 years old and the walls are lathe which can crack easily if you don't hang things just right so we always hesitate to pound a nail here --- but he's got some great art ready to go on the walls when we finally take the plunge and do it!

I did buy some 3M Command strips to see if that would work on some of his smaller artwork (but nothing over his crib -- I wouldn't trust anything but a nail to hold something over his crib -- and nothing over his crib that he could actually reach out and touch -- ever).

Our "theme" then, I guess, is green -- and he has a brown crib and brown dresser, and a cool blue rug with a shimmery very light colored blue drape. It looks much, much better than it sounds, trust me.
