I know Ruth wasn't saying that you wouldn't do what's best for Nath. For the last year, all you've done is struggled to do what's best for Nath. YOU ARE A GOOD MOM. YOU ARE A GOOD MOM

Or, rice milk too Nicole if you find that Nathy is allergic to soy. You can ask your pead for a multivitamin to make up for the lost nutrition in breasmilk/formula. I remember you tried giving Nathy formula before, and he thought it was gross, so I was just mentioning that since formula is so expensive, it would be a shame to spend the money if he won't drink it. (((((((((((((Nicole)))))))))))))) I pray for ya'll just about everyday.

Sandy- yes I know Ruth didn't say that, but I just thought I better cover myself in case someone did say that. Thanks I need to keep repeating I am a good mum. Last night I said to hubby "you know some of my friends say that I have done a great job with him, putting up with this for like nealy a year" he just laughed and went "hmph"

Christina- I think someone was saying that rice milk may not have enough calories, he is drinking say a cup of rice milk each day, he likes it. But thanks for the reminder, I think like Sandy said instead of doing the formula, I will just give him either soy or rice milk seeing as he is so close to a year old anyway. Thanks for your prayers Christina, you are a sweetheart!

Nicole, I am late joining the discussion because it's been hard to keep up lately. But I want to let you know that I agree with Ruth and others who have said there is nothing wrong with weaning. Breastfeeding is often the best for baby and mom, but not always, and sometimes it is best for a time and then not any more. You have tried all you could and this has gone on for MONTHS on end. He is almost a year old and it is not going to harm him to go straight to soy or rice milk and see how he does.

I hope you find a solution that works for you all. You ARE a good mom.

Ladies, I am dying with laughter over here. Greg wanted to buy Nathan some new toys. Our finances look good for it, so I stay home once Nathan has fallen asleep and Greg does some evening shopping.

Nathan loves to pretend cook. At our home he pulls out all my pots and pans and whatever else he can get his hands on and cooks up a feast. When we visit little girls' houses, they have pretend kitchens that are just his size and he goes nuts over it.

The biggest toy Greg got for Nathan? His own play kitchen ... and it's PINK! I couldn't believe it. Now, it is wood, so I think Greg is going to repaint the the thing. But he was choosing between a train set and the kitchen, and I honestly didn't think a 16 month old was ready for a train set.

But oh my stars... a pink play kitchen. Even if he does repaint, never let it be said my husband wasn't secure in his own masculinity or his son's. (Although both my husband and my father are wonderful cooks, perhaps even better then my mother and myself.)

ETA: OK, he's in the garage repainting right now. I knew the pink wouldn't last. But still, what a moment.

LOL, Ruth!

BTW, Levi plays with Hannah's pink and purple kitchen. He's as boy as they come. I never even thought of repainting it.

Nicole - even if Nath does take well to the allergy type of formula, that doesn't make you wrong to think he was allergic.

I'm sorry you're having such a rotten go of it with your husband right now.

I agree with all the others - you've done amazingly well and you should feel totally free to wean him.

If you go straight to soy milk instead of formula, just make sure he's eating a good variety of solid food and he'll be fine!

Thanks Tammy, he does eat pretty well. I guess by the time he is fully weaned I would have worked out what, if anything he is allergic to so that then I can make sure he is getting good food.
Hubby is still ignoring me and not wanting to apologise for what he did.

Ruth...that is hilarious! Wes is all boy too, but loves to play cook. That's so funny. I just love the way God created our little people.

Nicole...how are you today? Have you started weaning?

Greg and I are tired parents today. It took Greg half the night to put that silly kitchen together, although Nathan loved it this morning! And I was up with some sinus troubles. We'll be fine, just a little tuckered out.

Sounds like Nathan is gonna love his new toys!

We woke up this morning to a feverish Jael. Then we came downstairs and she promptly (while snuggling on my chest) puked all over! The poor dear...but she seems to be feeling a little bit better now...hopefully she'll make a quick recovery like Hannah did a few days ago.

but do I put him on formula? what if that makes him worse?

I would put him on formula, he isn't old enough to get all his nutrition from table food and rice milk... Gabby is eating 3 solid meals a day, plus a glass of rice milk and we are supposed to still give her 12-16oz of formula a day, per her allergist.

I wouldn't give soy formula, not only is it a super common allergen, but some of them also contain traces of dairy. Kinda defeats the purpose... Definitely look into a hypoallergenic formula and you might also be able to get a government program to cover it since it would be "medically indicated" if you can get some sort of allergy testing done.

If you don't want to do the formula, then try and find an enriched rice milk. You would also need to give him a DHA supplement of some sort...

So, Biruk thinks he's two now. He comes with me when I'm teaching toddler Sunday School and he has no probelm keeping up with those kids. He's as big as some of them. He is jealous when I give attention to his brothers, but in class, he could care less. He just ignores me. I spent 30 minutes trying to comfort a screaming two-year-old (her mother just didn't come back for her even though we called for her multiple times) and Biruk came up to me *once* during that whole time, and that only to get a look at the screaming banshee in my lap.

He's also starting to show signs of wanting to wean. Turning away and refusing to nurse occasionally, when he would normally want to, sleeping all night, and cutting nursing sessions waaay back. Seems to be the standard pattern for my kids to start weaning around this age, but it still makes me sad.

Bummer Maggie! This is the first time you'll not be nursing and/or pregnant am I right? ... I only ask because when Isaiah quits nursing, it'll be the first time in a loooong time that I've not been pregnant and/or nursing. Going to be weird.

Sandy thanks for asking. I am doing ok today. I think he slept 2.5, 2.5 and 3 hours. I woke up in some of that at midnight to help hubby finish Grace's room. hubby apologised to me for the other night.
So yeah, I will start to wean.

Ryanne- the rice milk I have is enriched stuff, it has added calcium in it too or something. I will talk to the paed more about it on wed.

Maggie- hugs to you!

Nicole, how do you feel now that you've made your decision? Do you have peace about it?
You've really done so well to make it this far. You are a good woman, and a wonderful mummy!!!

I have another video for you girls. Just a warning, kids never do anything at an appropriate time, and my hubby had CSI on the tv in the background, so turn down your volume so you don't get distracted! I couldn't figure out how to edit out the sound.

Well, Maggie, I am glad that your little man is sleeping through the night, but if you're sad that he's weaning, then I will be sad right along side you! Hugs to you dear.

That would be nice. Family and aquaintances have noticed that it's "about that time" and are randomly asking "So, are you pregnant yet?".

How old is your lil' guy, Maggie?

Hunter slept all night last night and went to bed without a fight too. He refused a nap all day yesterday and about 5 couldn't keep his eyes opened. So I snuggled on the couch with my baby and spent the next 1.5 holding him while he slept. It was wonderful! He has went the past few days sleeping horribly, but I think we maybe back on track.

He is becoming such a toddler, sometimes it makes me sad. Time really does go by TO FAST and I hate that! He now goes to Sunday School instead of nursery, he is talking up a storm (not that all of it is understandable), and he is communicating so much. My favorite thing is he says thank you! We are still working on please, but he will tell you thank you...to cute! We are working on where his nose, chin, eyes, ears, mouth, and hair are. He knows chin, nose, and hair so we are getting there.
