Now, I know this isn't really news. CNN's just kicking the sick elephant to see if it'll live til November. But this is news (and unheard of!) -

Nevada GOP Cancels Convention

Apart from my concern for the unborn, I hope the Democrats have the all thing in their hands... I think it will be a hoot...

Considering the most senior Democrat in the Senate was local leader of the KKK(and not just simply a member) I wonder if Obama looks over his shoulder from time to time... I wonder how many lynchings he took part in?

Here's a quote of his...

I was thinking more about Congress, but you do raise an interesting point.
My thought was that with Dems holding less than two/thirds of the House, and the Senate being 49/49/2 it's never really been a "Democratic" Congress for a long, long time.
What happens when it's more than 2/3 Dems in the House, +60 Dems in the Senate AND 'Dem Obama people in the White House (small pun).

I personally like a balanced government. I would like to believe that the last 30 years of Conservatism has pushed the Democratic Party more toward the political center. It would be a welcome relief to be moderate again.

I'd like to think that the Republicans would get their act together and start nominating some decent candidates. I am tired of voting for the lesser of two evils.

He has done a great job with his mandate- he added 4 trillion to the national debt, increased government programs for schools, gives out thousands of dollars each year to millions of Americans in tax refunds who pay little or nothing, he's keeping the SW border open so that terrorists can get through. That was his mandate right?

People only come to the center to get elected... There is nothing moderate about the Democratic Party whem you consider the leadership...

No it doesn't. It simply isn't a zero-sum game. Each $1 tax increase doesn't net the government $1 and each $1 tax cut doesn't lose the government $1. Using that kind of math should we simply eliminate taxes and have the government give out free money to everyone? Dubya does that and we have had record budget deficits. We had record budget deficits when the Republicans controlled both houses of Congress to.

While we can go back and forth on this and it's been happening for decades the last time the budget balanced itself when it was left alone. That would be in Clinton's second term when he wasn't signing any tax cuts and the Republicans weren't sending any program increases over.

So increasing the tax rate from 0% to 1% decreases revenue?

Hint: You need to come up with an explanation that involves the Laffer Curve. Most economists believe that tax revenues peak at about 60% income tax, using Laffer Curve assumptions. We are currently running at a 35% tax rate, so there's plenty of room for increases.

The notion that lower taxes increase revenue is a very convenient assumption, but the truth is rarely easy. The fact is that if we want to pay down the deficit, we will have to both cut taxes and increase spending. This will be painful for the economy, but it is really the only option.

Yes, it is Congress's fault. However, the Democrats' solution to the budget deficit is to raise taxes, and they're not going to be able to do that with a Republican president who doesn't want to turn out like George HW Bush.

The Democrats have been relatively sober about spending over the past two years as opposed to the last time they controlled both houses and had a Republican president.

One thing that is to blame for our current deficit, however, is this preconceived notion that cutting revenues raises revenues. Cutting taxes from 80% to 50% is clearly going to raise revenues; cutting taxes from 35% to 25% probably won't.

Well, if that's what it takes to pay down the $9.5 Trillion deficit conservatives accrued over the past 25 years, I'm all for it.

You must be living in a state that is not controlled and governed by the Democratic Party.

Here in Illinois where our legislature, and the governorship is in the hands of the Democrat Party, not to mention the Democrat Party machine in Cook County and Chicago, fares, fees, and taxes keep rising just to make ends meet. However, for some strange reason those ends never seem to get met, and nothing really seems to get done, other than to drive busniesses, medical professionals, and people out of state.

Why should Democrats pay down debt when they can use the debt to maintain their control over people, and line their pockets by making sure that their relatives get government jobs (either within goverment or out side of it).

"Experts" and "nay-sayers" have been wrong a number of times in recent years. They very well may be wrong again.

They may feel that they have good insight into what is going on, and even have some influnce on what happens, but they really do not control anything. People seem to forget that the real power in our government lies in the people. It also lies in God.

That though Republicans seem to have lost something in this election year, they may very well not be the only ones who have. If CW Current Events can be used as some sort of barometer of political thinking in America, the true sense of Americans may be that we are sick and tired of the top two political parties who seem to be doing nothing more than keeping us divided along a number of lines. Many people are either withdrawing from political activity all together or gravitating to other political ideologies. Some are filtering through all the politcal gamemanship and propoganda in order to vote for the candidate who they feel is best qualified to handle the office they are seeking and all that goes with it.

So increasing the tax rate from 0% to 1% decreases revenue?


Tax increases have historically suppressed businesses and caused them to move where there is less of a tax load.

There is no reason to think that things would be any different not.

Tax decreases have historically increased the over all tax intake for the government because it stimulates and increases business. Sort of a reverse wal-mart police; less tax on much more business activity outdoes more trax on much less business activity. More jobs, more income, more products made, more supplies bought, etc.

The inherent irony is that a so-called sick, demoralized Republican party candidate is still tied in nationwide polling with the Obamessiah. And, of course, there's the Democrat-led Congress polling at less than 15% popularity right now too. Bill Schneider hasn't been right about an election in a long, long time, and it seems he has no intention of changing that course now.

Give me a break, today's Donks would portray JFK as a far-right lunatic. The Democratic Party has slid almost lock, stock, and barrel into European socialism. I doubt even LBJ would believe how left it is, and that's saying something.

Every now and then the human body, especially when it's been eating and drinking to excess, finds itself in need of a high colonic (I won't use the "E" word here, so as not to be in violation of TOS). Once that's done, the body finds itself back in balance.

So it is in politics. In my time (and I'm probably older than a lot of you), I've seen America periodically drift from her reliance on the Lord into hedonism and greed. When that occurs, God usually allows a Very Bad President to be elected, cleansing us and giving purity of vision once more. Sometimes it's a Republican, sometimes a Democrat. In either case it's His version of giving the country a high colonic. And that's why I think He fully intends to let BOssiah take this election.

It'll be a time of much higher taxes, morality falling even further (hard to imagine, I know, but just wait), seemgingly unsolvable security issues...in short, a "malaise" that will make the Carter years look like a kid's birthday party.

The fact this election will be given to this man in large part by nominal "Christians" who rejoice in immorality--including unfettered abortion and gay "marriages"--is immaterial. God has decided America is in need of a "cleansing" in order for us to know how much we need Him...and how foolish we were (and are) in relegating Him to a position of being our national rabbit's foot. And a cleansing is just what we'll get.

May the coming pain of persecution over the next four years under this man drive us to our knees, and in 2012 may He give us another chance.

Yeah, I think people tend not to notice the Democratic led congress has an even lower approval rating than Bush.

I think there are a number of realities that have led to this situation. The first is that I think people are overall disenchanted with political solutions. As much of a love fest as there seems to be for Obama, I don't think anyone seriously believes that he will do much to solve a number of our seemingly intractable problems – the high cost of energy, the dependence on foreign goods and services and the slow slide of the US into less than super power status in the world, and that our children will grow up facing struggles we never did. Of course I don’t think many of them think McCain will make a difference in this respect either. Both parties have had their time at bat, and change doesn’t seem to be coming from DC.

I also think there is a latent but growing realization that many of the issues are less about politics than they are about our own moral, social, and personal decisions, and that for real change to happen – the sort that makes our everyday life better, hard decisions will have to be made by Americans on an individual and collective basis, decisions that require us to change what our priorities are – and we hate that, and it depresses us. So we despair.

In the end, I think by and large what our culture is going through can be very good for us if we persevere and return to what is right and true – or it can get much, much, worse as we give more power over to others to try badage things together rather than address root issues.

Dubya proposed the tax cuts, the dems in the senate didn't filibuster, the Republicans in Congress sent it back in the budget. Dubya didn't veto it even though such a veto would not have been upheld. Dubya proposed and the Republicans said "Wow this guy will sign anything let's make government bigger, really big! Bigger than it's ever been because we have millions of supporters who will say 'wow I love this Republican small government conservativsm!' and they'll support us without wavering until the end!!!" And so it came to pass.

When Obama becomes president I'm sure he'll help you out and print more money. That sounds just like our old #8 Governor Taft though and he was a Republican along with both state houses until '06. #8 was his approval rating. ; )
