My Gynecology Nurse Lied
TaoPoohBear, I'm not seeing how this is sexism. She is a woman. He gives her advice based on the acknowledgement that she is a woman. Should he instead talk to her like she is a man? That would be weird.
If he gave her advice of abstinence and carefulness, that is a good thing, something more people need to hear. Just because she didn't like it doesn't make it sexism, does it?
The question asked was "tell me the issues that face women today".
I take it you don't consider he being lied to by a medical professional an issue.

Anyone, man or woman can be lied to by a medical professional. That is certainly not an issue that only applies to women.
Anyway, it seems this particular story might not have been the best one in relation to the type of sexism we were discussing. This woman seems more upset with the fact that the doc would try to talk to her about these topics and (*gasp*) morality in a round-about way.

I know the woman is the one who said it was sexist and not you, I guess I just don't find it sexist. I find it sounds more like someone simply being offended way too easily.

I dunno. Though frankly I agree with the nurse regarding his apparent wish that people wouldn't have sex willy-nilly, if he really said "Women shouldn't have sex like men", that's pretty blatantly sexist.

Well here is the paragraph that was stated in

It seems that maybe he was simply trying to tell her it is not a good idea to sleep around. Sound advice IMO. With every other warning he was attempting to give her, I doubt he meant this as it sounded, if this is really his exact wording in the first place. I would bet this particular woman was simply upset at anyone trying to give her any advice on this matter to begin with.
I understand what you are saying, I just think too often nowadays everyone has their words picked apart and scrutinized to such a degree that we ignore what the message is about and focus only on one or two statements or sentences that appear to be sexist, racist, or any other "ist" when taken by themselves out of context.

Oh, I agree, that's why I said if he really said that.
I would have no problem with a healthcare provider telling someone it's a bad idea to be promiscuous, frankly I think more should be telling people that. I only have a problem with it if the health care provider specifically applies that advice to only women (or only men) for that matter, because that's sexist.
