Time to start it up fresh again....I am trying to keep the thread "freshened up" so that newbies have an easier time keeping up....so Keep up the discussion of the joys, trials, pains, and wonders of being a mommy and of breastfeeding.

(((Jae))) When Jadon seems to need your attention/snuggling more or is eating more or changing his eating don't think, KNOW that he is getting another little wrinkle in his brain as he learns something new, packs on a couple ounces or grows a couple of inches. If you look at his neediness as a really SWEET thing 'Oh, look, my baby boy really wants to snuggle all day'...if you can let the rest go and just see the pure sweetness of "I am changing, Mom, and I want you to snuggle me or let me eat from you non-stop" -- it's just such a pure need from their innocent little selves. Doesn't it make you feel oh-so-good that even while you're drained by it, but HE WANTS YOU to take care of his needs? All the people in this big, big world and HE WANTS YOU. I'm sure it IS quite draining in so many ways for you ((((JAE)))) but maybe if you can spin your thinking in another direction it will help you cope with it. He clings to you 'cuz you're his Mommy and for the most part you are his entire world. (I think that's really sweet.) Some day you'll be lucky if he gives you a nod in your direction as he hustles out the door to hang out with his friends, you know? (I know that faraway thought isn't particularly helpful when you're fried out TODAY, but I just thought I'd throw that in there because I'm sappy like that.) I wonder what new skill he's going to come out of this with? Maybe he'll know how to drive or do your taxes!!! Jeanie

This post is wisdom and love wrapped in a beautiful package. BTW... ds (18yo) still kisses me when he grabs the car keys and heads out the door. Snuggle those babes while you can!!!

HELP. Should I be concerned? Within the last week jadon's eating habits have changed. He only eats 5-10 minutes on each SIDE. I have to burp him and he hates it. He screams, cries - throws a major fit - until he does burp. I normally have to walk around for that to happen. If I sit down he just arches his back and cries. Normally he was sleeping long stretches of time, but now all he sleeps is 2-3 hours around the clock. I'm tired. Am I doing something wrong? I can't make him eat more. He turns his head and pushes me away and refuses to eat anymore. He is four months old and is more interactive. He inch wormed last night for the first time. Is this just a growth spurt? I'm so confused and missing my 6-7 hour night time sleeping. quote:
I think my biggest concern was "is this normal" and wondering if my milk supply is okay since he eats so little and still seems to want to eat, but won't. Then, once I get up to burp him, he's fine and doesn't even want his passy. Jae, I missed your real question, I'm sorry. Our boys are the same age (4 days apart for those who don't know) and maybe a month ago or even more Adam started going from 18 minute feeds (one side only) to 13-15 minute feeds (one side) to 9-13 minute feeds. Sometimes he will pull a long feed for him and feed for 15 minutes (one side) but mostly he feeds for 8-12 or 13 minutes (one side) and that's it. My cues that I look for are: Is he acting normal? (seem lethargic, not himself, really fussy?) Is he growing? Is he happy? (he's a happy guy so unhappy would be abnormal for him) Is he still eating the same number of times a day even if it's for shorter periods? What else is going on? Have we been out of the house a lot, travel, lots of company? And even when he cut his feeding times in half he was still growing, still his same old happy self. When babies aren't thriving they do just that: stop thriving. If he seems extra-tired or extra-clingy sometimes that's probably just a day/days that he needs his Mommy more because of whatever new wrinkles his brains getting (he's getting smarter - yay!) or he's growing taller or adding weight. Nobody is an expert on your baby like you are. It sounds like you have been concerned because he is acting a little abnormal to his usual, but if it feels growth spurty to you (yeah, I said spurty) and doesn't seem sick -- he's probably just doing his thing in becoming a bigger boy. Also, the kiddos get more efficient at sucking as they go along so I've always factored that in when he's otherwise the same, just taking less time to eat. Another wrinkle in that little brain as he's figured out how to get the milk out more easily so he can get on with his day. He still eats 7 times most days (sometimes 6), and he is sleeping through the night at least 5 hours a night (usually 6 or 7 or even 8/9 sometimes). When feeding Adam and he gets about 7 or 8 minutes into it SOMETIMES he neeeeds to burp so I take him off and hold him up --- ooooh, Bad Mommy Move, but he neeeeeeds to burp so I just talk him through it and tell him (I am such a sap, you should hear me) "Oh, we need to get that big bubble out of your tummy! Come on, get it out! Get that big bubble out and YOU CAN HAVE MORE. It's all for YOU, nobody else can have any." (I am a total dork.) That doesn't particularly help HIM but it makes it funny for ME because it's one of the few times he's being dramatic during the day -- like he is currently, 7 minutes into an 11-minute feed STARVING TO DEATH. He cracks me up. From my position here as armchair quarterback in your raising of Jadon I would say it sounds TOTALLY NORMAL what he's going through. Hang in there, sweets. He'll come through it. I'm sure it's getting to be a drag to have him needing you every 2-3 hours round-the-clock. You're doing a great job with him. I hope you know that. You're with him all day/every day giving him great care. You give yourself a big huge pat on the back from me, okay? Love, Jeanie (Thanks, ladies for your very kind comments toward me. I smiled pretty big at reading them and it warmed my heart. You are all such incredible women!)

That's great Jae!! Way to go Jadon. The way he arches his back and screams until he burps is trapped gas. That's what Nath started doing at about 3 months of age and hasn't stopped since. So I am praying its not that for you, just keep burping him like you are doing. If it continues though maybe ask your doc what he/she thinks?

Woohoo Sandy!!! I felt the same way when I made it to 7 months with Jimmy since I last nursed Timmy was he was 7 months. Hehehe...Jimmy started handing me my Boppy pillow. I never though I'd like nursing this long, well I only like it when he lays like a baby...I don't like it when he starts trying to get on all fours and lower his face to my boob, that kind weirds me out.

How many times is alot Sandy? Nath would have have about 4 feeds from 10pm-7am. Like yours, he is eating less solids than Grace. I really wanted to quite feeding at 12 months, but with only 2 months to go and 4 feeds at night and 4 in the day I don't see that happening any time soon!
