But really, if it's only one artist and one set, and the NoName CantCarryaTunes' fans outvote the Collingsworth family, at least it's only one set.

Instead of all the politics, I wish the board members would keep up with what is going on in the industry and act accordingly regarding groups that are on the rise and having success. You hear terms in the music industry like 'buzz worthy'. As has already been mentioned there are acts that are definitely 'buzz worthy' within the Southern Gospel industry that are missing from the main stage.

Looking forward to seeing Mike & Kelly along with Jeff (tator) in Smyrna, TN this coming Wednesday night. We nicknamed Jeff "tator" because he loves mashed potatoes and his mama forgot the mashed potatoes at dinner.

frog, Just an observation... you mentioned that board groups were the ons with most performance times. that's not always accurate. groups like the inspirations, mckameys, and perrys usually have 3 sets and have no board members, while groups with people involved with the nqc like mark trammell trio and dixie echoes only perform twice. greater vision has board member, same goes for legacy five, kingdom heirs, hoppers. and they also sing more.. but who could honestly disagree that they aren't all top drawing groups? seriously! THIS EVENT IS A PRIVATELY OWNED BUSINESS, they can book whomever they want. They have brought back Gaither, Signature Sound, added Soloists, and have done a lot of good too. They tend to give more time and performances to groups that draw more. I have NOTHING against Collingsworth Family or Melody Boys and others that aren't on this year, but doubt that they draw as many nationwide as the ones the headliners. While I DO NOTICE that there are some lesser name groups on the program, I still point out that it's their event and NOT ours. why can't they do what they want and we just enjoy it? If they were to book every group that everybody wants on there, the groups that actually draw the people wouldn't have any time to sing. They do have daytime showcases for regional artists like the Collingsworth Family to perform in. Yes they may have good crowds, and have a full schedule, but how often do you even see them west of the Mississippi River? And so what if a group is nominated for a Singing News award. It's soooooo funny that when the conversation is about the awards when nomination time is around, they are too often discredited or called pointless or rigged, but then the results are used as proven facts of favoritism when it comes to an nqc thread. just another view of this subject. I know that it will not be a welcome opinion for some of you

The Collingsworth Family are far from a regional artist.

Here's their schedule: http://www.thecollingsworthfamily.com/appearances.php States/Provinces on the schedule: IN, MI, NC, PA, TN, OH, Ontario, IL, MO, WI, MD, KY, SC, Saskatchewan, TX, AZ, NY. That covers pretty much the SG circuit and beyond, except for the Deep South. (But I know they've been in Florida, and I imagine they've been in AR, LA, GA, MI, and a few of the others, even if they aren't going there in the next few months.)

I understand that it is a business, and that they have the right to book whomever they want. But I also believe that they have the responsibility to help keep the industry viable and growing. Even from a business perspective, they can't just keep using the same people over and over, and not bring in new talent. That will lead to stagnation. I'm not talking about just any regional group; but in the case of the Bowlings and the Collingsworths, and others of their ilk, the industry (and thus the NQC board) should be more accommodating.

How could anyone possibly think of The Collingsworths as a regional group is beyond me! Let's see...Music hall, Cincinnati, Ohio....seating capacity 3000 plus....video shoot for Phil & Kim...sold out.....Gospel Barn, Blufton In....results...sold out.....Rev. Kirby's church in Florida.....results....sold out.........I recently hosted them in Indiana only to have the largest attendance ever in my building, surpassing attendance records previously held by groups like Greater Vision, Gold City & McKamey's! I know Phil personally told me that they have turned town more dates this year than they have sung at....they are being featured with Gaither....not bad for a regional group eh? My hope is that the NQC board has enough napkins to get all the egg wiped off their face when Kim wins the musician of the year award! Don't get me wrong, I love all the groups....have promoted may of them and will in the future....but The Collingsworths not being on the main stage remains a HUGE oversight by those in charge at the NQC.

I really like Mike and Kelly Bowling and also anything the Crabb Family, including Gerald Crabb does. Their music ministers to me always and I'm thrilled they will be doing a Crabb Family Reunion this year. However, I think that the National Quartet Convention has the right to schedule the groups they choose. It must be so hard for them to have such criticism when they cannot please everyone. I'm thrilled that Bill Gaither and Signature Sound will be back this year. I'm absolutely thrilled that Phil Cross will have more time for the Songwriter's Showcase. That is my most favorite event all week. It is such a spiritual experience. We never want to leave this wonderful event where we feel like we've been to a revival meeting. The NQC Board of Directors have the right to determine who sings. Our choice would be whether to attend or not. We look forward all year to getting on a plane and heading to Kentucky. We will always go as long as God allows us health and finances to attend this wonderful event. We will go wherever it is held, without complaint, and be grateful that someone takes loads of flak and criticism to bring us the best music on earth.
