"Listen then to what the parable of the sower means:
When anyone hears the message about the kindom, and does not understand it the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path.
The one who receives the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, makeing it unfruitful.
But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yeilding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."
Matthew13:18-23

Good Monday Morning Everyone
We had this Bible verse for our church sermon yesterday. Really got me thinking. I would hope I am the seed that got planted in the soil. But because of my constant worring, I wonder it I could also be the seed that fell into the thorns! Sure does give me something else to think about...and yes...worry about!

So I trust you all had a nice holiday week-end. My party went really nice. We have never had such lovely weather over the week-end. In the upper 70's and plenty of sunshine. The kind of weather you want to sit outside all day, and into the evening. I served 22 adults. Had six children here also. Sure was nice that I did'ent need to watch them
Had plenty of foods and desserts to go around. Hubby even took folks out on the pontoon boat. Sat. we took another boat ride with our son and grandson, and Sunday our older son came over, with his wife, two girls. We took them all out for another ride around the lake.Needless to say I left all the housework for today. It's rather humid out there, and raining off and on, so it's a good day to stay inside anyways.

Good Monday afternoon, Barb, and thanks for starting us out! Yes, it was beautiful weather here also, and I tried to enjoy every minute of it. It's supposed to be in the 90s doay, and is already at 85. Feels hotter.

I don't have Garrett today, so decided to stay home and sew rather than go to the gym and get myself all sweaty, tired & out of the mood to do anything constructive. Tomorrow I'll have Garrett, so will go to the gym then instead, then can shower & spend the day playing with him.

Great idea Leah,
If I had some fabric I would be sewing today also. Wanted to make them granddaughters a summer dress..but I just don't have the extra $$. Been playing "catch-up" with my bills, all of June and into July now.
Goodness it's hot outside. We are only at 84 degree's, but that dew point is 72 already. I could never live down south

Well back to some more cleanning........

btw, I'm going to ck out that movie you posted in Marsha's thread . . do you know if it's on satellite yet?
I watched it on Comcast's On demand channel. I don't know if they show up at the same time on satellite, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Oh.. Oh.. I forgot to tell you all what happened this week-end.
While we were haveing our July 4th party Katie's boyfriend showed up. Thought it was a bit odd because Katie was working. He went up to my husband and asked if he could talk to him and me in private. So we went into Katie's bedroom and shut the door. He asked our permission to ask Katie to be his wife. Said he wanted to propose to her on Sat.
We were surprised he decided to ask her so soon. Had the ring and everything! We congraduated (sp?) him and gave him our blessings. Hubby even shook his hand.
Next morning he took her out for breakfast, and while driveing there he went up a, off beat, country road. Above, on a railroad bridge, he has spray painted, in large print.. "Katie Sue Will You Marry Me?"
Then he gave her the ring. Oh, she said YES

Today is my oldest son's birthday. He is 29 years old. Just took the brownie's out of the oven. Gonna go over to his house, when hubby gets home, and wish him a Happy Birthday. I just put money in a card for him. he has been remodeling his basement so he can use it towards something he needs down there.

Barb, how sweet.....wasn't that nice that he asked permission first? Happy birthday to your son.

Leah, I admire your sewing ability. No way could I do what you do.

Hi Mama P! Hi Bill!

Barb, I've used this verse in my prayers. Sure want to be the good soil. I've been the thorny one most of my life though so I pray to be made of good soil instead.

Well guess I should do some bible reading before I go to work.

Ginny

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.

Barb, that is so cool about Katie's proposal!! And way cool that he asked your permission first. Anyway, congratulations to all of you! When is the wedding planned?

Thanks, Ginny. Sometimes I think I less ability than what is required, tho. I FINALLY got the jacket finished yesterday Woooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooo!!! Then I hemmed 4 pair of jean shorts for a guy . . . next time I'll know to examine them closely BEFORE giving a bid. Hemming shorts is a bit different than hemming jeans, especially when they have embellishments all the way down the legs . . . they are done, and I did charge him a little more for the 2 hardest ones to do. He didn't mind a bit.

Today I'm going to do the aprons -- need to make 3 of them for a lady, then start on the other jacket I have to alter -- a man's blazer -- he says it's too big in back and he wants it taken in at the side darts. I feel tired already, tho I slept really good last night. In fact, sat down in the recliner to read for a bit, then went to sleep with my book on my chest and my glasses on. Didn't wake up until Bill's alarm went off at six or six-thirty this morning . . . felt good to sleep that long, but I sure feel draggy now.

It's drizzling rain out & 74 derees this morning . . . I went out to trim some Bachelor Buttons back that were trying very hard to take over my garden (and falling over on all my other plants in the process), and it started drizzling rain as soon as I got out there. I trimmed them back anyway -- figured it was better to get wet from the fresh rain than from sweat . . . . speaking of which, I put my gym clothes on, telling myself I WILL make it to gym this morning, but I am thinking about putting it off until Garrett arrives, then taking him with me.

Good Tues. Morning Everyone

Thanks Christina, I'll tell Katie

Ginny, yes I also love them Bible verses. I tend to be alittle of both..the thorn soil and the good soil. I'm working really hard on not worring about everything, and just giveing it to God. That's really hard to do for me. Funny thing is God ALREADY has it, and controls it anyways. But I still seem to TRY to control it, and worry about it.

Got to spend some time with my son and his family last night. Sure is fun with them granddaughters. Lily is just starting to get words out. She calls my husband "papa" just like Isabelle does. It's so cute. And Emma is starting to coo and smile at everything.Lily has a new "game" with her daddie. Their driveway is on a hill. So she stands on the top and rolls or kicks the ball down, and my son has to catch it for her. He then throw's it back up to her. Last night she had three balls going down. My son sure got his work-out for the day! LOL
Me and my daughter-in-law, Amanda, had our "talk" finally. I think we got things worked out. Seems my other daughter-in-law, Sarah, started all this foolishness by telling her things I never said or did. Once we got that figured out everything worked out. We have a new understanding now. Mabey we just needed to do that. Now I need to talk to Sarah. Hav'ent done that yet. Funny...Sarah is the one I helped out the most with the grandson's. But anyways it feels good to work it out with Amanda.

Still have the muggy, hot ,rainny, weather around my parts. I really like my windows open. But the CA has been on since Sunday night. Think I will wash my kids bedding today. Try to do that every two weeks or so. Their bedrooms could use a nice vaccuming also. Mabey make an Angel Food cake for tonight. Serve some of them stawberries over it with real whipped cream
Think I will make meatloaf for supper with fried potatoes..or mabey greenbean/hamburger/tatertot casserole. Not sure yet. I'll just take some hamburger out of the freezer and decide later.

Good Tuesday morning everyone!
Right now I'm just sitting here hoping my son will take a super early nap (he usually naps closer to 11, but he also woke up over an hour early!). We're supposed to go out with a friend later, but if I can't get him to nap before hand I probably won't be able to go. He's been in this funk recently and man...if that kid is late for his nap you better WATCH OUT! He throws huge tantrums and it's just no time to take him out in public.

On the good side of things, I'm going to get up the nerves today to ask the neighbor if I can use their air pump. They said if we had any summer toys to blow up that we could use it, but I'm such a shy person that I haven't asked. But we bought my son a kiddy pool (okay, bigger than a kiddy pool...mommy wants to get in too!) so we need to inflate it. I can't wait to get it up because my son is SUCH a water baby. He's going to be completely ecstatic when he gets to get in it!

Hey, btw does anyone here garden? Just curious :)

That's too cute! Sounds like something out of an After School Special.

Glad you worked things out with your daughter-in-law, Barb.

Christina, what kind of gardening? I have a few tomato plants, and had about a dozen green bean plants til the rabbits got in and ate them down to the stalks. No good flim-flammin' bushy-tailed varmints!

Hi Barbie
Hope you have a Great day also.

Christina,
How old is your son?
Glad you are gonna find courage to ask your neighbor to blow up the pool. Who knows...you might become good friends with them. Mabey enough where you can borrow that cup of sugar or something? It's always a comfort to know you have neighbors that can be there for you. Even if it's just to use their air tank.

Hi there Barbi -- long time, no see!

Christina, I do flower gardens, but that's all. I used to put out a pretty big garden, but had to do it all by hand, since we had/have no power gardening tools. Pushing that old iron plow just got to to be too much, especially when the neighbors cattle would get out and trample & eat everything in sight! That happened to us the last 2-3 years we put out a veggetable garden, so I finally just gave it up. Now all I do is flowers which are close to the house, easier to keep, and full of enough perrenials to keep the weeds down pretty good now. I haven't put up any pics of my garden this year, but have in years past in the old CW photo albums.

By the way, I asked you to tell about yourself, but we've all been neglectful to tell about us, so here goes my part . . .

I am Linda, tho everyone here knows me as Leah (my middle name), wife of Bill for 39 years, mother of Melissa & John, both of whom are married (to Billy & Heather, respectively; I have 2 beautiful granddaughters (Melissa & Billy's girls). They live in St Louis, just about 1.5 hours away -- I hate driving in St Louis, so only go there when I can spend some time with the girls. Our son & his wife are now stationed in Germany. He's in the AF. They've not started a family yet, and have promised they will try to wait until they return in just over 3 years. We'll see . . . we have warned them, however, that if they have a baby over there we are all moving in on them (both sides of the fam . . and I don't think her mother was joking!! )

I keep a little boy, Garrett, whom you'll hear me speak of often -- sometimes I forget he's not my grandson . . . his actual grandmother is deeply in love with him, tho, and insists on keeping him a lot. So, even tho I'm supposed to have him 5 days a week, many times I don't. He's nearly 3 years old, but was a preemie, and is still very far behind his age group. I'm guessing him to be about 15 months, developmentally. He's a very good baby, and it's a joy to keep him.

I also do alterations and mending for ppl -- advertized in the local paper, so manage to pick up quite a few jobs there. I don't know how much longer these two small jobs will keep us afloat, but for now that's really what I want to be doing.

I'm also from a very large family (6 brothers, 7 sisters), and have written up some of my funnier tales of childhood in my thread (link below). My parents, as well as 1 sister and 2 brothers are deceased now, but most of the rest of us manage to meet at a family reunion every June. I have about 50 nieces/nephews, 80+ greats (I've completely lost track), and a few great-greats, so our reunion can be quite large -- but lots of fun

I have been truly blessed in so many, many ways.

It continues to rain, and I'm thinking I might go on to gym before Garrett gets here.

He's 20 months old :). I bought a pool that is supposed to be for ages 6+, but since he's been in a regular pool before I'm not worried about having him in there (we won't fill it all the way up) as long as I'm in there with him. We're trying to start being friends with the neighbors, but I'm shy and my husband is kind of introverted. We watched fireworks with them the other night :).

Oh I understand that completely! I have a vegetable garden now and it's all by hand. Right now I have 4 tomato plants (did originally plan on that many lol), a jalapeno plant, okra, and a watermelon plant. The tomatoes have some on them (still green) and the peppers just flowered. I'm all excited! :D

Hi all!

Christina, enjoy that pool! My daughter is at the city pool. It started raining shortly after she would have gotten there. I don't think she picked a very good day to go. I'm hearing thunder so hopefully they kicked everyone out.

I finally made it to Bible study this morning. Then after lunch I got my middle two kiddos to help me do some cleaning. I'm more motivated to clean when they are helping too. So we got some dusting done, vacuuming, mopping, and the van windows cleaned. My 4yo cleaned the front door. Well, at least part of it.

About me: I live in a small town in Kansas. I'm married, and have 4 kiddos. Girl-17, girl-13, boy-10, girl-4.

We do have a small garden; there are two kinds of tomatoes and a few kinds of peppers out there. Oh, and some dill and winter onions. I planted two blackberry bushes this summer; we'll see how they do. I also have a few flowers in the front of my house.

Good Wen. Morning Everyone

Speaking about gardens...
I used to have rasberry bushes. Problem was the kids liked them fresh but not in jam or anything. So they went to the birds mostly, with a few they ate right off the bushes. One year I told my dad to come and dig them up. He planted them in his garden, and they are produceing wonderfully once again. Now it seems my kids LOVE raseberries. Go figure huh? They go pick them over by dads now.
I have cut my vegtable garden down to just tomatoes and cuccumbers. The rest of the space went for flowers. But I used to plant everything. Even tryed potatoes one year.
Besides the flower garden with my tomato plants..I also have a flower garden in the front of my house. I have made it into a sort of memorial for my mom this year. Planted mostly purple flowers as that was her favorite color. Have my angel sculpture out there along with a garden flag and glazing ball. Have a picture of my gardens on my site if you wanna go look. I forgot how to do the link but it you type in: barbsgrandkids.site.shutterfly.com...it should come up for you.

Well I have my grandsons again this morning. Guess baby Brett(2 months) slept through the night. Made my son pretty happy to beable to get a good nights rest. I fed him, and he's sleeping agin. Ethan (3 years) just layed down on the sofa and went right back to sleep. Tommy dropped them off at 5:30AM. Guess Sarah will pick them up around 10AM. I guess they go in for their pictures this morning sometime. Wish she would have sent their good clothes. I could have given them both a bath, and dressed them up for her.

Well durning the night our dew points dropped. I was able to turn off the CA and open the windows again. I can hear the birds again
Guess they will go up again tomorrow afternoon. But I will beable to enjoy it for awhile anyways. Highs for this Friday are expected to get into the 90's with the dew points in the 70's again.

Good morning, Barb & everyone who comes in later! We turned our a/c off Thursday evening and left it until Saturday late morning. It's been getting hot since then, even tho it's a cool (and wet!) 70 degrees right now. We had T-storms again last night and it's still drizzling rain. Guess Garrett & I will stay in today. Yes, I finally got him back yesterday and was so glad to see him! Think he was happy to see me, also -- when his grandpa came to pick him up yesterday he didn't even want to go with him -- that was a . . . of course we'd been having fun playing with a ball

I have more sewing to do, so guess I will do that today, or try to -- that's always rather iff-y with Garrett here. I cut out the 3 aprons for the lady yesterday -- well, ripped them out, actually. When I have straight lines, and fabric that has an even grainline and will rip easily , I always rip. This was a good Cranston cotton, so it ripped very well. Since I had 9 pieces to cut and they were all perfect rectangles, that saved me a huge backache . . . . then I got one nearly put together before I had to stop and wake him from his nap. It's all easy sewing, so might even finish them while he's napping today.

For now, I guess I better get to my Bible reading -- reading is one thing he will NOT allow me to do when he's here -- he's all over me when I sit down to read . . . . guess he wants to be read to, so I discovered yesterday. He'd never let me read to him before, but yesterday when we laid down for his nap, he took my book from me and seemed to be trying to find pictures in it, so I got back up and got some books for us to read together -- he liked that . . . . anyway, I'm off to read

Yep, she sure is! Hey Ginny! How are you doing today?

Barb, I hate those deer flies. We never have them around here, but when we go to the river we get to fight them. And they bite!! Nasty little beasts

I have Garrett still tonight. His Daddy called around 5 & asked me if I could possibly run him home cuz Jodi had just got the baby down for a nap and daddy was due to be leaving for an auction, so I asked him if we could just keep him until he gets tired & needs to go to bed, or until daddy got back from the auction, whichever comes first. We're having a good time with him, but he's about to wear Bill out climbing up & down from his lap -- he really likes Bill . . . think Bill kinda likes him too

I fixed a pot of soup today . . it's my cabbage/veggie soup with pork neck bones that was instrumental in helping me stay on my diet when I first started. I had some of it frozen, but had used it all up. I'm hoping it will give me incentive to get more serious about my diet again

Hi all!

Barb, funny about the raspberries, kids are like that, huh?! Yay for sleeping babies!

Leah, how nice of you to keep Garrett! It sounds like a good deal for all involved, especially if Bill is having a good time.

Speaking of gardening, I went back to the inn to pull weeds today. Including some poison ivy. I'm glad I saw it before it saw me.

Then we took my oldest to the driver's license place; she has her regular driver's license now. No extra documents besides the old license needed yet. She had to go out driving with the examiner. It sounded like it went pretty well.

Then we went to Lowe's and discovered they don't seem to carry any ceiling fans that take a regular standard light bulb any more. That was annoying. Hopefully we can find one somewhere....
