Eve yielded to Satan's lies but she misquoted God before eating the fruit of the Tree of Good and Evil.

God did not say you'd die if you just touched the fruit.

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?" 2 And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.' " 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

IMHO - Adam was the one who sinned. He was sitting right there or was with Eve when she took the bite and made no effort to stop her and then when offered the fruit ate himself.

VJDTropical -> RE: Who committed the first sin, Adam or Eve? (7/6/2008 10:42:54 PM)

Wasn't it the Devil ( Lucifer ) that commited the first sin ?

blueshadow -> RE: Who committed the first sin, Adam or Eve? (7/7/2008 12:24:54 AM)

Eve ate the fruit first, so she disobeyed God's direct command first.

LCannon -> RE: Who committed the first sin, Adam or Eve? (7/7/2008 12:47:04 AM)

Eve was deceived by Satan and Adam knowingly(although probably Adam couldn't foresee the total ramification) sinned but both were equally culpable regardless of their paths.

MrFribbles -> RE: Who committed the first sin, Adam or Eve? (7/7/2008 1:11:09 AM)

I think I have the answer...
It doesn't matter! It's not a question of who sinned first! In fact, Adam and Eve can teach us to NOT get into this kind of discussion by looking at how they tried to pass off the blame onto one another, or the serpent.
Honestly, aside from trivia, I don't see any benefit from this topic.

And you base this on what?

I Tim 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

No commentary necessary.

Excuse me. I thought it was a question.

Yup! I'm convinced it's a question of who sinned first. :)

Which part?

And theo_book - thank you for backing it up with scripture and showing me differently.

My pleasure indeed. And I even think I know why Adam joined her in the deed.

Remember when god had Adam name all the animals? What did Adam see? All the animals had a mate. All the animals had a natural outlet for the natural stirrings Adam recognized in himself, but could not understand. UNTIL. Until God made for him a mate and told them to replenish the earth.

We have no reason to develope any concept as to how long they were in the garden together prior to the fall, but it was at least long enough for Adam to develope a recognition that his life had become better with a companion than it was previously.

And when Adam considered the possibilities of living in the garden with God but without Eve, I think he made a determination that he would share her fate rather than abandon her to her own feeble attempt at decision making.

And I think that is the meaning of "Eve was deceived" and was therefore "in the transgression." Adam also transgressed. But perhaps his motive was not quite as selfish as hers, or maybe it was even more so, I don't know.

What think ye?

Regardless of who sinned first - at least we know that the first ever consultant was a snake.

luv2prayzHim -> RE: Who committed the first sin, Adam or Eve? (7/7/2008 8:12:39 PM)

theo_book - I think you might be onto something!

RC - the bible says: Gen 3:6 (ESV) So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that is was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.

Something I will share with you.

There is no record of God telling Eve about the forbidden fruit prohibition. My surmise is that God told Adam and Adam was to tell Eve. We know she was able to quote God's instruction to Adam, so I will guess Adam told Eve about the issue.

However, Satan "beguiled" Eve, and talked her into disregarding the instruction to not partake of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

If my understanding is true, It would explain another New Testament instruction; i.e., Paul's instruction to the women of the church to "keep silence in the church" as punishment for her not accepting her husband's role as head of the family as established in Eden.

I Cor 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. 35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

I Tim 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

What think ye?

I humbly submit it is directly on the topic of who sinned first, and the consequences thereafter.
