When you call a wrong number do you apologize to the person, or do you just hang up the phone? I usually apologize to the person.

I always apologize! In fact, I might explain that my mother has three phone numbers and they're so much alike that I will mix one of her three area codes in with her other number. I try to be very cheerful and be quick to apologize and get off the phone.

I apologize and I ask them is this such and such number?

However, though, if I haven't finished dialing yet, I hang up then and redial

i appologize... oops sorry... if i realize i called the wrong numder.... if i didnt i say.. is this ###-#### and they say no, its ###-####..lol

Whenever I call a number and someone responds, "Sorry, you have the wrong number. *insert name* doesn't live here."

To which I respond, "Good. I'm trying to avoid them."

If I haven't finished dialling I'll quickly hang up, but if someone answers I'll always apologise that I've got the wrong number.

We always get wrong number calls at work so I try to be as polite as possible - it is a little embarrassing.

I always apologize. If someone calls me and hangs up, I call back and nicely explain that we wwre disconnected.

Wrong numbers can be very interesting. I have a very unusual first name, and someone else in my city also has that name. Their phone number is one digit off one of the numbers in my phone number. How do I know? Someone accidentally called my number while trying to reach her.

"Hi, R?"
"Yes."
"Well I thought I should tell you that ....
And she went on and on about something I knew absolutely nothing about.

"Wait. I don't know what you're talking about! I'm sorry!"
"Is this R?"
"Yes"
And she went into it again.

"I'm sorry, but I think you have a wrong number!"
"Is this R?"
"Yes, but I think you have the wrong R! My phone number is ***-****!"
"And your name is R?!?"
"Yes!"
"Well I called the wrong number! Hers is **^-****!"
"Oh, good night! And I could tell by what you were saying that you're a believer. Is she, too?"
"YES!!"

But most of the wrong-number-calls I get are babies! My phone number is very easy for them to dial up, so I get a LOT of them. I just talk to them. I got a proposal of marriage from one toddler!! [:)]

I have the same first and last name of an attorney who used to live one street over from me. His wife and son also had the same name. I got a lot of calls for them. Once in the middle of the night some guy called, there was a lot of noise in the background, asked for ####I said "speaking" He said " no I need the attorney" I said "sorry you have the wrong number" and hung up. Not 5 minutes later the same guy called and said "don't hang up--I'm in jail and I have to talk to ### the attorney" I told him what street the attorney lived on to try information to get the right number. I wonder if the calls to me meant he had used up the 1 phone call rule?

Oh, and if I call a wrong number I apologise and tell them the number I was trying to call to be sure I have the right number.

Yes I appologize when I dial a wrong number. I even appologize if I get an answering machine. They may have called ID which will tell them that someone called & it was a wrong number.
