Well for us here in South Louisiana school starts in five weeks. I have bought all of Tay's pants, shirts, new bras and undies from VS, the only thing we are missing is new shoes. I am going to get those next week. The school has the option of paying $40 and they will get all of the supplies you need, so I think I am going to do that. I know Tay well enough to know that she is going to want some thngs picked out by her for colors and styles.

How is everyone doing on their back to school shopping? I do still have to take and have the monogram put on her shirts, I forgot about that.

Haven't done any shopping yet but I am pulling out the stuff I just recently put away from this past spring and figuring out what we need to get! School starts in 6 1/2 weeks here. We still have CAMP season to get through yet! Between theatre camp, scout camp and the Zoo - the next three weeks are sheer chaos. After all that is done THEN I'll start worrying about school stuff!

I'm not to worried about new clothes tho. We pick up clothes as the kids need them. They will ALL need new shoes come the fall tho, except for maybe the eldest.

We are going from elementary to middle school and the dress code is different so we had to have all new clothes. Actually she always gets all new clothes for school, it is part of the fun of a new school year.

I did just remember we haven't gotten a belt yet, so we need a new belt and new shoes. So, I should be able to finish for around $200. Which is a good thing since I am not working right now.

I have one headed into highschool, and 3 in elementary and I will easily do all 4 of them for under $300. Hubby is the sole breadwinner around here so we've learned to do much with little. The kids ususally get one new outfit at the beginning of the school year unless they are in dire need of certain items. That and shoes. We simply can't afford to buy all 4 children completely new wardrobes each fall. Not saying it's wrong - just something we can't do and don't see the need to do.

I think she would go into shock if I told her that was all she got for school clothes. Being just the two of us she is a "tad" bit spoiled. I created the monster though.... We spent $300 at just Victoria Secret on bras and panties.

We wear uniforms here, but the dress code changes from where she was to where she is going. It was ok though I got to bless a new single mom in the neighborhood.

She has problems with the archs in her feet and has to have a certain shoe, so her shoes are going to be $150 alone.

LOL, I don't think I spend more than $300 on each kid for clothes and shoes all year long. Probably much less, in fact.

Really??? I love to dress Taylor like she is my baby doll so I go overboard on clothes I am sure. Now I spend almost nothing on clothes for me.

We wouldn't have enough money to do that. In addition, my kids are boys, and they are homeschooled. My mom did buy Brandon a leather jacket, and he does look really good in it, but that sort of thing is rare. I think the height of his clothing desires right now is a racing swim suit. And Nate is happy as long as his clothes are comfortable. He won't wear jeans, so he can't have his brother's handy-downs, lol, but other than that they have pretty simple tastes in clothes.

I could be wrong, but I may spend more on myself than either boy, clothing-wise. But when I am working it is generally in an office setting, and so I have to have nicer clothes.

Homeschooling is a priority, so we do what we have to do to succeed at it. When I am working (I am unemployed at the moment), I leave a list for the boys each morning with their chores and school assignments, plus any other info they need for the day. When I get home we work on anything they had trouble with, plus anything I wanted us to do together. We tend to do a little each day, even weekends, and we school year-round since we don't have the time in each week to cram in everything we would need in nine months, without giving up other things (jujitsu class and drama activities, etc). It works for us.

That is great that you are able to do that. I have considered it, but have never been able to not work so that I could stay home to do it. We do have the best schools in the state in the parish we live in so it does make it better for us. If we lived closer to town though she would have to go to a private school.

We've been out of school less than 2 weeks! No way are we thinking of school shopping! But, when we do, we usually have $100.00 budget for EVERYTHING related to clothes.

even if i were to buy just one uniform it would almost be $100. the first school she went to the jumpers were $100.

Isn't Victoria's Secret a women's sexy lingerie firm? (I'm in the UK, we don't have VS here) If so, I'm a bit confused, what with your daughter being only 10.

Apart from the styling, that to me is an absolute fortune to be spending on undies.

I don't know about age, but if I wasn't pregnant or nursing, that's the only place I would buy bras. They are good quality for the money, comfortable and they fit very well. Undies I could take or leave, but they do sell lots of functional, quality bras that are great for every day use.

My husband always preaches that it's better to buy good quality then have crummy clothes you don't like and aren't comfortable in.

For example, he spends over $200 on a pair of nice, work shoes that he also wears to church. They last 2-3 years, and he wears them 5-6 times a week. He also has bad arches, so it's critical he get good footwear. And quite frankly, we're not in the poorhouse, so it's worth it to him to buy good shoes.

She doesn't need a wonderbra but she does need a bra and I think if she has to wear one it needs to be quality and comfortable.

Sadly, I needed a bra too at that age. Man, that was an awkward age.

And Masquerade is right. Plenty of their stuff is regular underwear, not all of it is padded. [;)]

As an adult, I can understand spending that much, but for something that will be outgrown in a year, it isn't something I personally would do.

It is good quality stuff. If she has to wear it, it needs to be comfortable because if it isn't she will hate wearing them.

The pink collection is very cute, a little more than I like to pay but it is hard to find her size because bra sizes are really different so there at least someone will help me fit her then will help me find the ones that fit because a 32A in one style might fit but in three other styles it is too big.

I have tried buying them at Walmart, the ones in ladies are too big the ones in little girls are too small.

I guess my main problem would be teaching her that the way VS portrays women is what we should aspire to. Personally I would not spend that much money, however, money is pretty relative.

Yes, I went and looked on-line. The range is aimed at college girls, 18-22 yr olds.

All the panties look really small and scanty.

Maybe this is a cultural thing - I'm just really surprised. My dd started wearing a bra at 10, and I had her measured properly for it in the ladies department of a local store. But it was nothing like those prices, and nothing like those styles. And for panties, I bought them at the local supermarket, briefs that weren't too brief, and were reasonably priced.

I have found that VS, has the best fitting, most comfortable bras anywhere, and they're the only store that ever actually bothered to measure me on top.

I am not 10, but I am abstinent (as I am a christian single), but I still like to have pretty underthings, because it makes me feel feminine, and makes me feel completely well dressed from the inside out. I am very modest, my underwear never shows, but it affects my sense of being, I guess you could say, so I see nothing wrong with mymasquerade buying her daughter well fitting, attractive undergarments. Especially if one has to wear a uniform to school, I think it is nice to have unique wear underneath. Plus, she will have to change for gym class, and it certainly wouldn't do to have to change in front of other girls and have raggedy underthings.
