Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.

I don't see how any Christian can doubt that miracles still happen.
Perhaps a better question would be: How do miracles happen today? And perhaps also: What miracles happen today?

mvic -> RE: Are miracles still possible for today? (7/4/2008 1:49:13 PM)

Miracles, God speaking to us, answers to prayers, visions - all are possible and do happen today.

Anyone who does not believe in miracles just doesn't want to believe...they are all around us.

What people considers as miracles are just normal expresions of God words in action. They real and would continue to everywhere. "Supernatural display in human evidence."

brubeckbach -> RE: Are miracles still possible for today? (7/9/2008 7:31:53 PM)

We need to use caution when we use the word "miracle(s)". To be honest, I found some of the previous replies somewhat upsetting because miracles as mentioned in the Gospel had a very specific purpose and that was to make it very clear that Jesus of Nazareth was indeed the long expected messiah. The miracles mentioned in the rest of the New Testament also had a very specific purpose and that was to be proofs that the apostles were indeed set apart by Jesus Himself and that they were His personally appointed messengers while God's word was being completed and full revelation made to the gentiles, (ending with the Book of Revelations). This type of miracle then ceased as it's purpose ended.
Today because the Holy Scriptures are complete and the covenant opened to all gentiles around the world, special super-natural mircles do not exist. There are many, many miracles in our daily lives but... are they the same miracles of Jesus' ministry ?

Throughout my life I have seen many amazing things take place in the name of the Lord. People being totally healed from cancer, addictions, many other illnesses and diseases that doctors would just give up on and say there is no cure for. So yes, I am one who firmly believes miracles are possible, and certainly do happen in this day and age.
I do not believe that the type of miracles performed by the Apostles died with them, and was specifically meant only for them. The Holy Spirit was poured out on everyone, not just those back in the day.
Miracles have meaning for us even today, and most assuredly 'purpose.' The person healed from a deadly disease speaks volumes of God's graciousness to unbeliever's. It plants the seed of truth into their lives.

Matthew,

I share your view and more importantly, it is of the Holy Scripture. Miracles are divine expressions of the Holy Spirit on any deficient situation or person. Jesus the same yesterday, today and forever. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit on human vessels is still evident today and will continue to be forever in the name of Christ Jesus.

Why Should Christians Believe in Miracles?.

Because if you don't, and ascribe such to any power than God. It is called blasphemy of the Holy Ghost, the unforgivable sin.

So Christians should be careful before denying miracles. Granted Satan can also perform certain miracles all you have to do is go to a magic show.

Magic shows are not all illusions, as some would want you believe so you wouldn't believe in miracles and ask where is the source of the power.

Actually, um... Pretty much they are. I have yet to see a single trick that is past explanation in human terms.

I don't think this is right visus... The unforgivable sin was ascribing to Satan the works of Christ, not the Holy Spirit.

W.r.t. miracles, I have seen 3. The first was of neutral consequence to me, the second worked against me, and the third was to my benefit.

cwb please allow me to correct you with the following verse:

Mat 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

This is the verse i was speaking to, however, take a look at Mat 12 so you can see what i'm trying to say. Sorry if i hadn't explain myself properly.[&o]

MrFribbles, i once saw a magic show where the magician was pouring water from one glass into another. He then let go of one, and allowed it to float in mid-air, while he continued pouring water into it.

It amazed me that the miracles practised by the magicians at the time of Moses are still with us today.

I'm good friends with a young fellow who can take a deck of cards, and make any card you name jump to the top of the deck. After you look through the deck.
Trust me, there's a gimmick. The fact that you can't figure it out just lets you know that they're good at what they do.

I take your point[:D]

My dad is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians. Yes, there is such a group, they use magic tricks (which they explain thoroughly as being mere "illusions" and give demonstrations regarding what they mean by that) to present the gospel message. Nothing will hold a squirmy 8 year old boy in his seat hanging on to every single word that the presenter is saying like trying to figure out how the illusionist is doing something.

I guarantee you that magic shows are pretty much 100% illusions.

*nod nod*
Though I feel I should add that I believe it is possible for demonic powers to perform "genuine" miracles. I just don't think they'd waste their time with magicians.
