Kooks -> God's rejection of Cain's offering. (7/3/2008 8:23:54 AM)

Genesis 4:5
But on Cain and his offering, He did not.
My question is this: why did God reject the offering of Cain in favour of the offering made by Abel?

Genesis 4:7

'If you do well, you can hold up your head; but if not, sin is a demon lurking at the door: his urge is towards you, yet you can be his master.

Does this discussion of Cain doing well indicate that he did not do so previously or is it merely a general warning given by God to Cain regarding his jealousy over God's favouring of Abel's offering? Also, why would God openly favour Abel over Cain when He is the God of both and the All-Loving Creator? What is the meaning of this episode?

I really appreciate any comment as I truly do not understand this message.....

Because God was looking on his heart, and to this day, it is on our hearts that He is always looking.

I agree...Cain lacked faith.

I to believe Cain lacked faith, but is this the proximate cause of Adonai's rejection of the sacrifice. In the previous chapter, Adonai had shown Adam and Havah(Eve) the proper way to perform a sarifice. We also know that they had taught this to their sons, since Abel offered a better sacrifice. Now, the author of the letter to the Herbrews tells us that by faith Able offered a better sacrifice. We know Cain had faith since he offered sacrifices. He just did not have the right faith, since He did not respect the example of his parents and Adonai. Had Cain possessed the proper faith He would have also made the proper sacrifice.
