Muslims outraged at police advert featuring cute puppy sitting in policeman's hat

quote:

A postcard featuring a cute puppy sitting in a policeman's hat advertising a Scottish police force's new telephone number has sparked outrage from Muslims.

The advert has upset Muslims because dogs are considered ritually unclean and has sparked such anger that some shopkeepers in Dundee have refused to display the advert.

You need to look at the image of the post card. How can anyone get offended at something that cute?

It's like they're just looking for reasons to cause to ruckus. And the authorities cave, of course.

Maybe they should replace it with a cute pig...

Muslims seem to stay up nights coming up with ways to make conservative Chrsitian evangelicals look like liberals...

Who cares? They are always outraged about something. To those unclean everything is unclean.

offend away, they can always go back to their homelands

Islam is the religion of perpetual outrage.

How would they feel about a cat?[sm=kitty.gif][sm=kitty.gif][sm=kitty.gif]

I have a friend who is married to a Muslim man. Every book their daughter has that has a picture of a dog, the dog has had a sticker placed over it.

Pluto looks very funny with a flower for a head.

Sounds like a lot of straining for a gnat while the camel's being digested!

Hey Lexie you found the solution! Flower stickers for everyone![sm=flower.gif]

The fact that the police have apologised to the muslim community for showing a pic of a cute puppy makes me really sad and want to say lots of swear words. I wont say any more.
apart from.....

There are probably a ton of Muslims who are annoyed by the outrage. Probably fed up of the minority making them look bad.

rnershigh -> RE: Muslims outraged at police advert featuring cute puppy sitting in policeman's hat (7/3/2008 8:30:44 AM)

Ridiculous!!
The puppy is a police dog in training and they're offended?
That dog may one day save the life of one of the complainers, ya never know![:'(]
I think this is ridiculous.
What next, they'll be offended to see a person walking their dog in their community so they'll complain to the city to ban dogs?

The police had nothing to apologize for.
This reminds me of another thing that went down a while back.
A cartoon that appeared in the op-ed of The Washington Times really caused a lot of offense to Pakistan and the Muslim officials there.
I think they wanted the cartoon banned or changed.
What was so bad about the cartoon?
It was a cartoon that depicted the U.S. and then Pakistan as a dog with a caption saying "U.S. best friend".
It wasn't meant as an insult, but a compliment because we here in the U.S. consider dogs as loyal and as man's best friend.
The cartoonist was trying to convey that Pakistan was a close ally.

Sometimes I wonder if the Muslims that complain are looking for things to complain about so they can make a ruckus to say "Discrimination! You're intentionally doing this because I'm Muslim!!"[8|]

Sorry, just say no to these folks trying to impose Sharia law.

jazzact13 -> RE: Muslims outraged at police advert featuring cute puppy sitting in policeman's hat (7/3/2008 5:08:01 PM)

I wonder if this means they'll start protesting at store that sell calendars with pictures of puppies in them?

Or call for the closing of things like the Humane Society?

I wonder if mice are considered unclean? After all, isn't there a kid's show in Palestine that teaches kids to kill the infidel Hebrews?

HisFish -> RE: Muslims outraged at police advert featuring cute puppy sitting in policeman's hat (7/3/2008 10:15:11 PM)

I'll bet they would have liked it if in the picture the puppie were beheaded, and the caption read "Infidel".

scutus -> RE: Muslims outraged at police advert featuring cute puppy sitting in policeman's hat (7/4/2008 2:41:46 AM)

Where is the outrage? I see one councillor, perhaps a Muslim, who is concerned, and an unidentified number of others who do not welcome it. Where is the outrage? If the news is right, there are a scant few who are discontented, there are NONE who have called for it to be removed.

The Daily Mail is gutter trash, the sort of newspaper that gets laughed at in Britain.

People, have a bit of scepticism about the content of info and the source where you get it from. I won't go to CAIR to get the full story, and I don't bother going to the Daily Mail to get a fair story about immigrants either.

Excellent point.

I didn't realize it was the Daily Mail that printed the article....then yeah, I have to question how big a deal it really is. When The Sun prints an article about it, then I'll sit up and question[;)]

From the linked article:

quote:

The advert has upset Muslims because dogs are considered ritually unclean and has sparked such anger that some shopkeepers in Dundee have refused to display the advert.

Dundee councillor Mohammed Asif said: 'My concern was that it's not welcomed by all communities, with the dog on the cards.

'It was probably a waste of resources going to these communities.

Yes, they are calling for Sharia law and beheadings in the streets. Violent mobs are rioting in the ...

Oh, wait... They just wont put up postcards in their own stores of the equevelant of a rat. [8|]

I wouldn't trust CAIR to tell the time of daily accurately all the time. They are a terrorist propaganda mouth piece. All of the founders and most of the folks in charge have ties to known terrorists groups.

scutus -> RE: Muslims outraged at police advert featuring cute puppy sitting in policeman's hat (7/4/2008 11:34:13 PM)

Councillor Asif, who is a member of the Tayside Joint Police Board, said that the force had a diversity adviser and was generally very aware of such issues.
As a member of the Tayside Joint Police Board, because he served as a communicator between the Muslim community and the police, it was his duty to inform the police of his concerns and that it could potentially be hurtful to Muslims. Although it was an overreaction to apologise for 'hurt caused' because no one had asked for an apology. Now does what I have just described justify the title of the article:

No it does not. I've been seeing this same news make the rounds of many blogs, and they don't even think to actually read the article.

PaleHawkWoman -> RE: Muslims outraged at police advert featuring cute puppy sitting in policeman's hat (7/6/2008 12:58:48 PM)

My people do not allow dogs to come in the house, but we don't find them to be offensive in public or in the media. Dogs are companion animals developed over centuries to guard our homes and livestock, help us hunt, draw carts or carry burdens (yes some dogs were bred to be draft animals), track, kill rats and vermin(terriers were bred specifically for this), herd(collies, shepherds), and several breeds do more than one of these. Some dogs were bred simply to be pets. No problem.

I do have a problem when people take dogs places they aren't meant to go, like to a cemetary where their owner walks them around and lets them do their business on and amongst the graves, or to someone else's house without asking permission. Pets do not belong on an airplane either as other passengers might be allergic or the pet might bite someone. Pets are not children, and the owners need to remember that and respect other people's spaces, health, and safety.

Service animals are different, as they are trained to assist the disabled or law enforcement.

Just a thought. Now that this proactive reaction to assumed Muslim outrage has blown up in the PD's face so to speak. Is this new reaction to the average Scott going to smooth over their feelings or will they have to be given sensitivity training to accommodate the general public now too? [;)]
