Row1 -> RE: Katy Perry's Christian Crisis (7/29/2008 1:00:36 PM)

i saw this woman at vans warped tour this yr- i was chaperoning my stepdaughter and a couple other teen girls to vans warped. i was just chaperoning by being on the premises - they could run around and see the bands they wanted to see, and i could find bands i wanted to see, while i would be within arm's reach by cell phone (or - curiously - I was the ONLY person at this texas concert with a cowboy hat on, even though the weather was very sunny and hot -- so they could pick me out in the crowd by looking for the straw cowboy hat). i ended up watching this woman perform a few songs. she followed a british ska band i enjoyed. i could tell the appeal - the brash, smart lyrics, although i could not hear too well all the time - plus she acted flirty or whatever. Overall, I did not think she sounded that great. Maybe in the studio. the 'rock' was basic, so-so. when this song hit the news i nthe last few days, at first I did not realize I had already seen her perform. I thought that people were for some reason talking about the song about 'i kissed a girl' that is several years old. i don't know who did that one - kind of a more emo, folk type song than a rock song. the same-sex community is upset with katy because the song minimizes the act - it kind of says that kissing the girl was no big deal, just a lark. in contrast, the other, older song is more heartfelt discovery-type theme - so the same lyrics, and the tone is what is objectionable the the same-sex community, i guess. so if an opposite-sex person kisses a person of the same sex, but just on a lark, and it doesn't really mean anything, then that is bad. OK, got it.
