Today I'm very offended.

Left the car in the car park at the supermarket. By the time I got back someone had reversed into it and damaged it.

No message of apology on the windscreen. No witnesses. Nothing but great expense for me to put it right.

Now tell me ... seriously ... how do you forgive and love your neighbour after that?

I'm sure others have already replied to this; I guess I'll add my 2 cents as well.

I've found when things like that happen that the Lord leads me somewhere that I would have never taken myself, and my husband is of the same mind. Several years ago a kid hit one of our cars head on (it's a miracle it didn't kill her and my husband and two of my kids). Her car was a goner, and our car was a mangled mess as well. Since it was totalled, we had to buy a car, and so after about a month of shopping, we actually went into a car dealership (something we both swore we would never do again). The salesman who helped us had a little cubicle he worked from, and there was absolutely nothing personal about this space except he had a card holder and a very small calender. When we were finalizing the papers, we had our three kids with us, and when the salesman stepped out of the cubicle for a moment, my oldest child of 8 years old noticed the little calendar had a scripture on it, and she commented, "I think he's a Christian." When he came back, she just bluntly asked him if he was, and he lit up with a smile and said, "Yes, I am!" Then we asked him where he was from and where he went to church, and he said, 'I don't go anywhere. I just became a Christian a month ago, and I have been praying for God to help me know what to do next. I've been reading the Bible, but I don't know anything and I do need some help." He and my husband ended up being friends, and for a year he attended a Bible study with my husband and a bunch of other men before he moved out of state.

That's funny! I actually had a similar thing happen when I bought my first car. My car-salesman and his family go to my church now!

Thanx Bzirk for your inspiring story.

Let me tell you the sequel to mine.

Parked the car in the same supermarket. Got out of my seat, went to the other side and opened the door for my wife.

An elderly man saw me and said: "That's a nice thing you did. You must respect your wife very much. Opening the door for her."

I mumbled: "Yes ... I suppose so ..."

She answered back: "Respect has nothing to do with it. The door is broken and doesn't open from inside".

I used to but I don't like his new assistant, so I quit. I did like Monk though. One time there was a show about a hotel, he used blacklight on his room and about had a heartattack at all the nasty stuff. Watching it, I did too. Now I've added motel rooms to things that freak me out. I always knew they were dirty but not that dirty.

It offended me when last time I was in a motel I found a pubic hair in the blanket left by someone before me. I asked the maid and she said they rarely change them.

I found one on the shower curtain at a motel one time.

Umm, I don't know how it got THERE but it was sure offensive to me.

I work at the Hampton Inn in Lake Park GA... we clean up well there and wash the linens with bleach. I'm the breakfast hostess and the head of housekeeping checks up behind the gals.

But in the past I have stayed at motels that I've wondered about. If you have a problem with a room, let the front desk know or they may not know to fix something. Don't worry about them being offended cause if they are, there are usually plenty of other places to stay.

I heard that one of the top 10 travel tips is when you go to a hotel, to take the big comforter on the bed and throw it in the closet instead. They said it is seldomly washed. If you are too cold, then turn up the heat instead. I also heard them recommending wiping everything down too.

Buy a couple of those vacuum storage bags and bring your own bedding. Or buy an RV. Gross!

And the cheaper the motel, ???

Kath,

I can relate. I thought I had died and gone to heaven when the waterless hand cleaner came out. When we took our family trip to New York, we each had a small bottle in our pockets and had to fill them up every couple of days. I'm happy to say that no one caught anything during the month we were there.

I drive a school bus route, and the first thing I had to get over was the potential for getting sick. You know how the schoolhouse and school buses are like germ factories. Every day I wipe off the handrails and some other surfaces that are touched frequently. I have never gotten sick from my bus route -- at least not that I know of. I also try to never touch my face with my hands.

As for the sheets in the hotels, even the "good" hotels do not always clean their linens appropriately. My second oldest child caught scabies by staying in a Sheraton. But then she's the child who manages to get all that "good stuff." She's also had lice and ringworm and athlete's foot and I don't remember what else. She's actually pretty finicky about hygiene, but she's also very adventurous.

I use the liquid hand cleaner sometimes but not very often, to me it only smears the germs around. I like the wipes where I can wipe the germs off. I know it's probably ok and I do keep a bottle with me but still, I think about it. My mom loves the liquid and she is worse that I am about germs.

I know, it's a sickness. But as you said, I hardly ever get sick.

I usually do a sheet check when I check in to a hotel. I also try to read up on hotel reviews as far in advance as possible too.

That's where we think it happened. My in-laws took her on a trip, and they always stay in really nice hotels. They also got scabies, and they are super finicky about cleanliness -- you can probably eat off the floor in their house. When I took my daughter to the doctor to find out what was wrong with her, the doc asked me if she had slept in a hotel bed in the last 10-14 days. I said, "yeah, but a nice one." That's when he told me that it can happen in the nice hotels as well.

You guys would never make good farmers.... .

I worked on my neighbors farm for 18 months and they had tours....tours with people from overseas....school tours.

Now I am not sure if you are familiar with what a milking parlor is but essentially you are four feet below hoof level so you can apply the milking machine without bending over.

That places you in the...target zone...for flying..well...excretions. These people who probably have never been in a barn before would come in and...yep you guessed it. Now to us it was just an everyday occurance and part of the job. I am not sure what they thought of it.

Do you know what ammonia smells like? Multiply that a few times and you have..the barn smell. I can say being raised on a dairy farm, I was surprised how strong that smell was when I went back to that kind of work.

There was a problem at a county fair one time in New York. People got sick. They narrowed it down to the fair using well water. In well water the bacteria count is somewhat high. If you are used to it, its no problem but for people who are used to the city water, it was a probelm.

My grandson gets sick often now. He has started to go to school. The doctor sdaid it would be a year or two until his body adjusted to his new enviroment. Then his body will have been exposed to the differing bactieria and develop defences for it.

As kids we seldom missed school because of sickness...I doubt I missed more than 10 days in my school "career". We were immersed in dirt and other bacteria carrying media, if not everyday then pretty much everyday.

Now I live in a more urban enviroment and take two showers a day with all that anti-septic soap...and I doubt I can go a month without getting sick.

hmmmm.

I hardly ever get sick, and I only got sick like two times when I was a kid. No kidding. I'd like to keep it that way. But what's interesting is I grew up with horses and rode quite a bit when I was growing up. I've mucked a stall or two in my time. I've also been around cattle a lot in my life, but somehow animal germs don't bother me so much as people germs. I'm sure it's psychological, but oh well.

I hardly ever get sick and a lot of the people that get sick all the time are the ones that overdo it on the antibacterial soap and sterilize everything.

I am not afraid of germs, there is bacteria on everything and its not anything you can control and it overwhelms some peoples lives.

I started watching Monk, its pretty funny.

I pour boiling water over my toothbrush.
I line up my hangers and umbrellas perfectly.
I touch each fence post as I pass it, but unlike Monk, I wipe my finger after each touch.
I am careful not to step on the cracks.
I have an assistant who carries the wipes for me.

JUST KIDDING!

But I really enjoy Monk, the defective detective and am not offended by him!

I agree that trying to sterilize everything is not necessary (as if someone could actually sterilize everything anyway). But taking precautions when riding around the subways of New York or when riding around on a bus for three hours a day with school kids is prudent.
