Phelps, Phelps, Phelps.....can anyone can't get enough of this guy?

No, I'm happy that he got the gold, however, it was a shame that Mark Spitz did not get invited to the Olympics and see him break the records.

Every Olympic games, the media tends to zero in on one "star" athlete and they are all over the place. Personally, I'm thinking he's worked very hard to accomplish what he has. And that's what it is, an accomplishment. This media frenzy will go away, not any time soon mind you, but eventually the attention will go elsewhere.

Actually on the Today show last week, Spitz clarified that he had comitments to keep in the USA and therefore could not go to China for the games. He was very gracious toward Michael Phelps & congratulatory. He also said he didn't expect his record of 7 golds in one Olympics to last forever.

Just thinking, the US is fortuante indeed that Phelps is an American. They wouldn't be doing near as well on the medal table without him. They would still be second, but given the number of competitors (nearly double that of the Brits) they have, the Brits would be equalling them on gold medals.

YEPPERS! He's all ours!

There was an interesting comment last night. Because of the number of events that are held in swimming, swimmers are the only ones who could rack up that number of medals in one Olympics.

Yep. Michael Johnson has said that he's not the best Olympic athlete ever because no other competitor has the opportunity to compete in as many events as swimmers do. He did however say that he was the best Olypic swimmer ever.

Cool. Far more important!

I have to say that watching Usain Bolt win the mens 100m and then watching Shelly-Ann Fraser take gold in the womens 100m plus Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart taking 2 silvers was an amazing moment.

Can't wait to watch both of the relay teams!

Nor me! Michael Johnson said he was a bit disappointed in Bolt in the 200m heat though ~ he said he didn't run his best (technique). He was still amazed that he slowed down.

I think Bolt has to realise that he needs to keep running, even if he is in the lead so we all know just how fast he is!

What position is he in the relay?

Usain Bolt is the most amazing person I've ever seen on a track, and I've been following track for 30 years. His 9.69 looked like he was out for a jog. The best part is his "I don't care about the record, just that I won". How often do you see that?

Especially in a 21 year old kid. He is amazing. I was reading somewhere that his father said his power comes from the "Trelawny Yam." Apparently he grew up on yams and that's what they attribute his size and strength to! Too funny.

Definitely going to be a Usain Bolt day in Jamaica!!!

I saw him cross himself. Does he have a deep faith, or is that just something he does? You can sometimes not tell.

Favourite moment... seeing the medal table for track cycling a few minutes ago. Simply the best.

I'm fully aware that we may not keep the medal sweep up on track and field, but then we don't compete in every competition.

Angelo Taylor's interview after wining the 400m men's hurdles.

"First I want to thank God" . . . . .

It's the first time I've heard any athlete acknowledge their faith.

I didn't see Bolt cross himself after wining the 100m dash. Was it in a different event?

It was before. I'm pretty sure it was him, but I could be wrong. Will have to keep an eye on him!

There was a Brit woman swimmer who is a Christian. She lost the race and was crushed, but the commentator acknowledged the swimmer's faith, which I thought was cool.

Yep, it was him. They've just shown some mini clips of him as they head towards the 200m and one of them was him crossing himself and looking heavenward.

Germaine Mason (mens high jump) thanked God too for his silver afterwards.

I've got the women's BMX event on ~ the Brit (Reade) was given a cross before she left home. Apparently she had it blessed at her local church and before each race goes off and says a prayer.

That was from the commentator. Now I'm not sure about being given crosses and having them blessed but isn't it great that it's known that she does pray ~ and one presumes to God not some god.

They featured him in the last issue of runner's world magazine.
