ORIGINAL: Kath Do you ever check the weather there just to feel connected? Sometimes I check the Springfield MO weather for Dan, and when Brenda (Larry's oldest) lived in Spain I'd check their weather. Maybe that sounds kinda weird. I do that quite often. Especially with DD gone to visit IN and MN this month. She comes home tomorrow! LOL, I do that in Orlando ALOT!!!! Sorry you had to cancel your vacation. Maybe you will be able to take a trip in the fall. Today I actually sanded my ENTIRE deck. Well, most of it. DH still has to finish pressure washing just a bit and I can get to that. Then I can seal it and put my patio furniture out. I can't wait to sit out there on a Friday night and have a fire and roast marshmallows and hot dogs with my kids. I have always dreamed of that. But this is getting costly and we are a bit over budget. Jake is angry at me but he has been in a bad mood all day. Thursday he had friends over all day. Friday he had a friend sleep over, and last night we went to church and he slept over by that friends house. You would think he would be at least normal. Oh well, I guess that comes with his age.

What is bugging Jake, Tracy? It's no fun when they are like that. Kath, when my kids are at camp I'll watch the weather where they are at when there are storms going through. Generally though, they are close enough to home that the weather isn't that much different. I'm sorry that the Minnesota trip didn't work out, Garsy. Kim, how is your hubby doing? I feel the same way about the husband's job and overtime Kath. Hubby doesn't get double time on Sundays anymore (he used to) but right now he is still working at least one day of overtime (for time and a half) a week. I'd have to work a long time at a lower paying part-time job to come close to making what he does in that day. When he starts going long stretches with no over-time though I start feeling I should contribute to the household income. There was a beautiful tiger swallowtail butterfly on our deck this evening. I don't think I've seen that kind around here before, or not as well as I could this one at least. It promptly left when hubby went out to take a pic. Today I went out to look at my winter onions. I should be seeing some sort of new growth, but there was none. I started wondering about the rabbits that we saw in the yard when we got back from vacation. This evening we went back out and looked again, and did see signs of nibbling, so I think the rabbits ate the new growth. We haven't had rabbits in our yard for a long time, but there were 2 in the yard when we got back from vacation. The dog was gone, so I guess they came on in. But even when we haven't had a dog, normally no rabbits. Not for a lot of years. My oldest daughter wants to come home from camp now. She has a ride home for Tuesday. Although we might go pick her up; we need to do a couple of things that direction. I don't know. My middle girl gets home from Colorado this evening. She went with the church youth. It's interesting how much better my youngest two get along when they are the only two at home. Dee

It promptly left when hubby went out to take a pic. I don't believe I've ever seen one. That is amazing though. We do get Monarch butterflies. One year we were on their route and there were so many perched in the trees. I couldn't get a picture, we just stared at them from the window. I knew I couldn't be quiet enough and I'd scare them off. I didn't know we had hummingbirds around here till I saw one at moms. It's the only one I've ever seen here. I saw them a few times in CA. quote:
The dog was gone, so I guess they came on in. But even when we haven't had a dog, normally no rabbits. Not for a lot of years. Do you suppose it took a while for the dog scent to dissipate and now they feel more secure? We let Coco out for good, she was such a naughty cat, she just keeps spraying the back door to mark her territory so we just kicked her out. That was the other day and she has bought us a few bunnies. She seems very proud. I know someone will probably get mad at me but she has no claws so for her to do this is quite the accomplishment. (we never planned on making her an outdoor cat but cannot live with that spraying, it's just awful) She doesn't have an infection, it's just her breed. She the bengal. We can't even give her away with her habit, instinct, whatever. She sticks close to the house during the day and sleeps on top of the open garage door, so she's safe at night. Is E unhappy or homesick? I hope K had a good time :) and yes, it is amazing how the rest gets along much better. One wonders who is the instigator. ;)

Jake has had a sleep over here at the house, and then slept over at a friends house. I think he is just overtired. But tonight he wanted to play a game. I just didn't want to, but we did make smoothies. I got a new blender and they are so easy now. You just throw everything in and press the button that says "drink". So he did get some time with us and we are planning on making a meal together tomorrow. Hopefully that goes over well. I will be totally finished sanding down my deck by noon tomorrow then I can spray it with a sealant. I was going to stain it first, but I think I am going to buy a two in one so it can be done.

I did all of my laundry today. At least I got that done inside. I need to think of something fun to make with the kids for tomorrow. Last time we made chicken and dumplings so that we all had a job to do. I am at a loss this time. Tonight was spaghetti.

I don't know; I think E is just tired of being there. I reminded her that when she is home she's not that thrilled to be here; she said it wasn't that bad, that she had fun when she was home. We decided we'll go get her tomorrow and go see my grandparents since they live near the camp. We always end up just driving on and not stopping. G'ma broke her hip this spring so we gotta go there while we can. They are both 90 or more. Still living at home. I hate it when I miss some of the laundry. I think I'll wait until Tuesday when both girls are home. More laundry and more help. I might do a load tomorrow if I get it downstairs and sorted. I bought some stuff at garage sales Saturday so that adds to the pile. E probably did her laundry at camp this weekend. My kids love making smoothies. Our blender just has slow and fast on it. It belonged to hubby's grandma, I think. It's an old Osterizer. We also have a food processor so I don't use it that much. I'm wondering if I should give it to E when she moves out, but I might miss it. The dog only left a couple of weeks ago, for while we were on vacation. We were gone less than a week, so the rabbits moved in pretty quickly. I don't think I explained it very well. Tonight I looked out and I saw one in the back of our backyard. The dog is back there again, but she's pretty lazy. She just lays under the deck most of the time when she's outside. I was surprised that rabbits would eat onions. I love it when the monarchs come through. I think there is more out in the country so I'd imagine you see a lot of them Kath. I wondered if Jake was tired. K just called; they are almost home. It sounds like Coco can take care of herself. We had a cat when R was a baby. We tried to keep her in, but one day she got out and never came back. R was about 10 months when this happened, so just getting old enough to really go after the cat. I actually thought it was pretty good timing for the cat to disappear if it was going to; this cat had no tolerance for what R would have done to him. I had to be so careful about them being together. The kids were sad that he was gone. I wanted to remind them of how aggravated they would get with Boots. But I didn't. I remember K crying and saying "get rid of Boots." Because he had a bad attitude a lot of the time and would scratch them. Dee

It sounds like Coco can take care of herself. I hope so/think so. I think she hangs around the house because of the neighbors cats, 3 of them roam around our yard. Buffy doesn't let them get too close to the house. I have no clue how she knows they are out there but she'll bark to go out and take off like a jet after them. quote:
Because he had a bad attitude a lot of the time and would scratch them. That definitely is not the cat to have around! Coco really is sweet, I think she is the sweetest cat we have as far as relating to us, and she adores Buffy, but she just is a nasty cat as far as bathroom habits. Larry blames the breeder. We've had trouble with her since day one but thought it was just training, and she never got out of it. With the problems we can't rehome her so this is about all we can do other than putting her to sleep and she doesn't deserve that, not at this point. quote:

I hope she appreciates being home for a bit! K is home, tired. But she had fun. A kid spent a long evening in the ER after falling while they were hiking in the mountains, and one of the vans broke down while in Colorado, but everyone is OK now and back home. Being outside sounds like a good solution for the Coco problem. Roberta, when does your daughter get home? Forgive me if I missed that info somewhere. Dee

ORIGINAL: thisistheday Roberta, when does your daughter get home? Forgive me if I missed that info somewhere. Dee I wrote the following in THIS POST #2538: [rant] I am getting so frustrated! DD has been gone since July 9th. I miss her!! I know she's having fun. She's supposed to come home tomorrow, but it's looking like the flights are all booked and she'll have to wait until Tuesday, possibly Wednesday. I've done really good and only broke down and cried the first day she was gone. When she told me that she might not be home tomorrow, I did really good while on the phone with her. After we hung up I broke down and cried. I've been told by two well meaning adults that it could be worse. "She could be off to college," "she is 15 you know," etc. Why on earth do people think statements like that make a mom feel better? That doesn't make me feel better! I am well aware of her age and I want my baby back NOW!!!! [/rant] Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. Then, as if I haven't blogged about it being a bad enough day in POST #9 I wrote POST #2543: To make my day better, I got pulled over twice. Once on my way to morning service and once on my way to evening service! FOR THE SAME THING EACH TIME!! I have a window sticker on my car because we can't get it to pass smog. Last month I got pulled over for the same thing. The officer was really nice and asked if I'd move my sticker to a more visible place. (It's a convertible so the sticker has to go on the front.) She then told me where it would go best on a convertible. Well, this morning's officer didn't like it there. I explained to her what the previous officer said and that I was not going to keep moving the sticker around. She told me that with a convertible the hood has to be up so the sticker can be placed in the back window. I told her that according to DMV, that is not true. I now have to appear in court on Sept. 29. This evening I got pulled over once again. This time was a man. When he saw the sticker he let me go. I asked him if the top had to be up and he said no. I didn't tell him what the lady officer told me this morning. I don't know if I have the mental strength to fight it in court. However I don't think it's fair to have to pay a fine when I wasn't in the wrong.

Oh Robertta how were you nice to each officer that pulled you over. I would have been in tears and ranting to them about the one before. I think I have told you this before, but you must be very patient. Maybe you should make a huge sign and put it on your back windo with an arrow pointing to the sticker and see what they say about that one. LOL, they will tell you that your view is obstructed. Hopefully when you go to court, you can tell them how the wonderful officers can't seem to with eachother so you might need a note from the judge as to where the right place for your sticker is and everytime you get pulled over, they have to pay you for a ticket. This is why I can't get pulled over because I would end up in jail. Well, today is a bunch of I don't know what. We need to make dinner together, but the kids are fighting like cats and dogs and have been spending more time sitting in their rooms on their beds than anything already. Uggggg

Roberta-I'm sorry that you had such a lousy day and I hope that your daughter is home soon! We've had a busy weekend...family visiting while they were attending a class reunion, home repairs, and work. It was a nice weekend, though. We finally purchased a new dining room table and chairs. Our other table was 27 years old and we only had 2 chairs left to that set. We now have real wood instead of formica and I am going to need to be careful that I don't damage the wood. We received a really good price (the table and 6 chairs was less expensive than buying new chairs. MY dh was up until 1:30 Saturday morning assembling the chairs (we bought it in the box). My dh borrowed his brothers truck so we didn't need to pay a delivery fee (and then we were able to use the truck to make a few runs to the dump).

We received a really good price (the table and 6 chairs was less expensive than buying new chairs. Be very careful with that table and chair set. We bought a wood set once and within weeks, it was not good. The store told us that when you have wood that you shouldn't get it wet too often. So kids aren't allowed spills. Not to use soap on it. Furniture polish only. And it got gouged very easily. We were told when we bought it to keep a tablecloth on it. In the end, we gave up after many repairs and had them return it and went and got a table with a formica top, but the rest is wood. Much easier for me. I am being so lazy today. I went and bought the sealer for my deck, but it has to sit for 24 hours and we have rain in the forcast. I really want nothing more than to have dinner out on my patio. We can't do that until the deck is sealed becuase I don't want to put the set up there only to take it down for 24 hours just to put it back up. Too much work. I still don't know what we are going to cook for dinner. Jake left to go by a friends house and the girls are happy to be just hanging out so maybe brats on the grill and we can cook something tomorrow. I am upset with my brand new blender though. I bought it and used it for the first time last night. It is 600 watts and so you would think it is good. Well, I went to make a smoothie today and the thing did not work. NOTHING. Now I have to bring it back to the store and what gets me is that I was at that same store today BEFORE I tried to use it. Oh well, nobody said things are supposed to just work and be easy.

I'm going to assume that that is the situation with this table...it doesn't even have a shiney lacquer finish. I've got a table cloth on it now. I do have the advantage of children's ages...my youngest is 12. My concern is people forgetting and writing on something directly touching the table. I need to order a table pad to cover the top. It was nice to have enough chairs in the house for everyone to have a seat at dinner time!! quote:

Yes, the blender has a light that shows when it is on and when it is on standby. Both lights are working which means there is power going to the blender. I was so looking forward to mango smoothies tonight too.

Our table is oval, so it would depend on how easily cuttable into the right shape the material is. I should go to bed; orthodontist evals for my middle two in the morning. I put off calling, and they can get in before school starts, if I can take them first thing tomorrow morning. Not fun since we got home late getting E from camp. But we saw my grandparents; they were so happy we stopped. I'm impressed that Gma is 90 and not doing too bad after her broken hip. Dee
