ORIGINAL: peculiar_lady2 also it would mean we would have to get a larger vehicle. Our van holds what we have now, no more. Ours too ... but Scott keeps talking about having enough kids to fill one of those mini-buses ... LOL We'll see ... I'm in the same boat as you! Or, should I say... hmmm...... van. I wish we could of gotten a van that held 8, but that would of been a LOT more money than the van we got. It would of been a little bit more than double!!!!! Ya know what ya gotta dooooo?????? Just wait for your oldest to get their own vehicle... then you can have more kids. My youngest will be around 6 when my oldest is 18, so I could have more kids once my older ones move on. BUT>>>> The whole thought of my older ones being that old depresses me, so one day at a time!! I'm like Sarah though, my pregnancies are healthy (no major problems), but I get very sick and feel so horrible and it seems to be getting harder with each pregnancy.

LOL ... that would be 11 more years before having another child ... not quite conducive to the average of 18 months apart we have going on at the moment. I also tend to be quite ill during my pregnancies (although this and the last have been the 'easiest' thus far, with the violent morning sickness being gone around 20 weeks). My problem is afterwards ... not immediately post-partum, but somewhere around week 6 I end up with all my "girlie problems" coming back, to the extent which requires a trip to the ER and some heavy duty meds. I must say, though, that the thought of dd driving is already started to make me shudder!!!

Our 15 passenger van is a 2002 we bought it used in 2004 for 17,000 it had been a rental prior to our buying it and came with the remaining manufacturer warranty. Don't think NEW- think USED! We priced them new and it was going to be near 40,000. ~e

$40K for a vehicle! Oh my goodness. Talk about sticker shock. We paid $15K for our Chevy Venture. I think it's a 2003. We bought it in 2006. At the moment, it seats seven, but we could add another seat, if we changed out one of the seat belts. We don't need the extra seat, so we haven't gone to the trouble. My family, plus both my parents all fit in together, which is our main concern. I have prayed that the Lord would give us a school name. I think we have it: Aletheia Academy. Aletheia means truth in Greek. It sounds really nice. Since TL is going into high school, I've been thinking about what to call our school, so when she graduates, she will have a school name, rather than just homeschool. I like how Ezri has a name for her school. I'm going to start a thread on this.

I'm with Ezri. With one exception, we've always bought late model used vehicles. I'm guessing that, with the high gas prices, used big vans are going to start selling cheap now .

Or there is always the option of an 8 passenger van. Many 7 passenger ones can be made 8 by getting another bench seat, which would be cheaper than buying another vehicle. We may do that anyway at some point, just to have an extra seat. I am becoming very much at peace with us being done though. It's nice to have the decision made.

I'm glad you are at peace about it, Donna. I am very happy with our little family of three children. I certainly wouldn't encourage my children to stop too soon and hope I am raising them to be able to support and raise any number of children the Lord provides. If they stay near me, I will do all I can to be a good and helpful grandmother. ETA: Even if they move away, I'll do what I can, but it's a lot easier to be available to those who live close by.

We have a 15 passenger van as well. I think it is an '89. We bought it off from ebay from a Boy Scout troop for $2000. We love it and it didn't put into debt.

IF God allows us to get pregnant again then we will definitely look into used anyway (I see no point in driving off the lot with a new vehicle...the depreciation on it is horrible!!!). However, for us right now, it is the cost of the vehicle itself. We do not currently owe anything on our van...we paid cash for it and it is a great van (2005 Kia) that will hopefully last a lot more years. Unless hubby gets a promotion then he won't make more money, and unfortunately we have been fighting that road for years with no luck. He always gets stuck in units that either say they will promote him and then don't, or with sgt's who hate him (mostly because he is a Christian and won't go get drunk with them) so they refuse to promote him. quote:

I *think* it would work...from just basically looking at it...but we haven't tried to put a back seat in the middle yet. If we get pregnant again that's what we would look to doing first...just get a back seat and replace the middle bench seat with the back bench seat. quote:

The easy way to check that would be to take out the middle bench and see if the back bench would fit in the hooks for it. We know ours will and we'd just have to bolt another seatbelt in, which shouldn't be a problem for Paul either. A good "project" for Paul one day when he is bored...I know he is like Brian and has to be doing something all the time. I will pray that God will guide you one way or the other. It's a hard decision, for sure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's Brian's birthday today. I had the bright idea of getting subs and all going fishing. Poor Brian...I think I should have just sent him fishing by himself. I was too busy keeping Levi away from the drop off (until we moved to a spot he and Hannah could wade in) to help him, so he spent forever keeping the three big kids' poles baited and out of the trees. Ha. I asked him if he had a good time on the way home though, and he said he did...once the big boys went looking for frogs and the little kids were throwing rocks in. He was fishing across the lake at that point. We could talk to him, but they weren't pestering. LOL So I guess it worked out okay. I do wish we had left Levi with my SIL though. He's just too little for that kind of stuff yet and I am in no shape to chase him right now. Nick just left for his mom's house. He won't be back here until the 17th. I hate to say it, because I hate what goes on there, but it is nice to be able to relax a little. It has been an exhausting week.

Thanks! I like your new avatar, Sue. That'll be me measuring Noah before too long. I bet he'll be as tall as me when he's 10 or 11.

Happy Birthday Brian!!! Great day for a birthday. Ds4 is 10yo today. And the 8th isn't a bad day for a birthday, either! Ds1 and I raced today. He did a sprint duathlon (run/bike/run) and I did an Olympic triathlon (swim/bike/run). We both raced very well and placed 2nd in our age groups. Yah, I was gone on my baby's birthday... And when we got home I had created crisises to deal with. You know, the passive agressive stuff from dh. Ds4 chose to have a quiet birthday at home. He asked for a BBQ dinner (hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans) and a banana cake. He's now playing with his new toys.

"Funny" story from fishing...while we were there, a family with three kids came with a small rowboat. Dad and the two boys (4 and 7??) were going to go out and go fishing. 7 yo mentioned a bit of water in the boat, 4 yo starts freaking out, so Dad is trying to calm him down and tell him a little water is okay and they would be fine. Just then, across the road/bridge, 2 speed boats pull up with a pontoon boat between them. The pontoon boat BARELY made it in without sinking...it had a hole in one of the pontoons and had to be rescued from the other end of the lake by these other two boats. Once the 4 and 7 yo saw this, they were NEVER going to believe Dad that a little water was fine. LOL...poor dad...

Navy regs even STATE that chaplains are allowed to stand by their christian beliefs and even their denominational beliefs, but that doesn't necs. stop a supervisor from making life bad for someone who takes a stand. For him, it wasn't about getting drunk, but it was about other things. He retired as a commnder (O5), but I really believe he would have retired as a captain (O6), if he hadn't been discriminated against regarding his faith.

I WANT to be at peace with being done, but I am not. Too bad Justice wasn't twins. I guess that's why I felt a sense of sadness when you said this was (maybe) it for you, and I didn't feel that way when Donna said they were done (no offense, Donna-I know you and Sarah are equally good parents). I just always had a feeling about you having 6, but with Donna 5 seemed just right. But I TOTALLY understand about health and financial issues and all that, so I am certainly not trying to lay a guilt trip on you. I know adoption is expensive, but maybe God's going to plop some baby in your lap that's in the state system or something that you won't have to pay for. Although if you are opposed for that to happen, I mean no offense. By the way, does Jake ever feel all alone, being so far apart in age from the other boys?

No offense taken. LOL We don't really plan on never having more kids though. Just no more from my body, or for a few more years. Then we'd like to foster and maybe adopt...maybe 10 or so years from now. We'll see where God leads. But we don't feel like we're done-done, just that the biological part is done.

Aletheia means truth in Greek I know a young lady with that name. She is absolutely delightful. Her sister's name is Zoe. I drive a 7-seater even though there are only two of us. Somehow I have hurt my hip (probably a combo of the stadium seats we spent the other evening in and today's gardening) and ibuprofen isn't touching it. I have been crabby and useless but I did, with my mom's help, get a bracelet made for my sister for her bday and thankfully, she really liked it! I am going to lay down and watch the Incredibles with the boys, unless laying down doesn't take the strain off, in which case I will take a vicodin and fall asleep (the latter not being a choice...if I take it, sleep will come). Btw, my grandmother is doing well BUT the cancer had spread (they said it had sent runners out?) and so we may be looking at a long haul. Test results yet to appear. They did not graft any skin and she says the skin on her leg is TIGHT now. Giant stitches, too. Looks like Frankenstein's leg, lol, except they are very nice and straight, neatly done.
