Jas 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

the Bible says what pure religion is.,

It sure ain't this mess we call it here in America,.

I've been wanting to post on this thread for some time, but I wanted to read all the other posts first, and somehow I never seemed to actually get to post.

I wouldn't be surprised if this survey isn't completely accurate. Where I work, most of my co-workers claim to be Christians, but it makes a difference in the lives of very few, if any. One co-worker, the single father of a 4-year-old daughter, made this incredible statement, "Whichever woman gives me a son, I'll take that as God's sign that that's the woman I'm supposed to marry." And yes, that makes it extremely hard to witness!

However, I do have some questions about the survey's accuracy and the dark picture it seems to be painting. I wonder about the wording of the questions (I haven't looked at the actual survey), and I wonder even more about how the respondents interpreted the questions. Often, when people ask me what my religion is, I know they're really asking me what my denomination is, as though Baptists and Methodists and Presbyterians were different religions. So I respond, "My religion is Christian; I belong to a Wesleyan church." If the Pew Forum asked people who think this way their question, "Do you believe your religion is the only way to heaven?" they'd have gotten a no, when the responder may really believe that only Christians go to heaven, you just don't have to go to my church.

In the second question, "Do you believe there is more than one true interpretation of the teachings of your religion?" (or however the question was worded), without any more explanation than that, I'd have to say, yes, there is. I was discipled in, and grew up in, an Arminian denomination, so I tend to think like an Arminian. But I don't think that makes Calvinists necessarily wrong. I do not speak in tongues. But I have known many members of Assemblies of God churches who are very good advertizements for their churches, and I don't consider myself more right than they are. There is definitely room for disagreement here! But there are also issues where there isn't room for disagreement, most importantly the substitutionary death of Christ and His actual physical resurrection. I'd have to know which issues those doing the survey were talking about.

Biblically there are two ways to heaven.

Live a sinless perfect life.

Accept Jesus as your Lord.
