Just an update for anyone out there who may remember this story.

I can only hope he gets the maximum sentence. No time off for "good behavior" and no parole.

I wonder how long it will be before our resident liberals leap to this man's defense?

Oh trust me, they already did when the story first broke after the boys had been pulled over. No need to wait for that to happen.

rnershigh -> RE: Egyptian student pleads guilty in FL terrorism case (6/19/2008 3:42:59 PM)

Thanks for the link and update.
I remember when this first came out.
I vaguely remember some were saying the kid was innocent and this was Muslim profiling or something like that.
Well, it's interesting what the cops found on the laptop!
A whole treasure trove of stuff!

They were dumb for not initially stopping, that tipped off the police officer that pulled them over.
Oh well, no one ever said criminals (or in this case, would be terrorist criminals) were overly bright in the common sense department.
Ugh, this guy wasn't even a U.S. citizen.
He was here as a student, ugh, this just makes me frustrated that there are people out there willing to take advantage of this country's generous nature and try to stab us in the back.[:'(]

I do remember the thing that got me about this story is that the students were from FL, but in SC when they were pulled over with all of this stuff in their car. And also darn close to a SC military base if my memory serves me right. There were folks screaming "profiling" though when it happened, trying to say the boys were on their way to or from a vacation or something and were wrongly pulled over because they "looked like terrorists". Seems to me though I don't remember anyone mentioning them having luggage with them as if they were on vacation, funny thing eh? Anyway, there was also some excuse for the PVC pipe and what not, something about it being used for fireworks.

Some fireworks that would have been! From what I've seen, travelling up and down the east coast, the police in SC and VA are probably more "with it" than in other states.

I also remember all the cries of muslim profiling etc. and I just have one thing to say;

HIP HIP HOORAY FOR MUSLIM PROFILING!

I would say that we need more of it.

NOT ONE THING about the charge against him! (why not all of the group?)
To what terrorists did he give "material support"?? how do the authorities know, what's the evidence against him??

Not one thing in the report about the main point of the report...

it's all trumped up, so the gov't can follow up on the original story, and uphold their "Muslim threat" lie.

[8|]Ain't not a thing happened since 9 11, so they have to make up stuff to keep us scared and bowing down to the patriot oppressor Act.

I'll keep searching. I know I've heard more detail before.

It's called forced plea deal in order to make the gov't look good.

I wonder who else has ever heard about Mr. Ahmed Mohamed's testimony as to the reasoning he was producing these videos. By his own account he did it to support the Arab countries that were fighting against enemy insurgents, and in his estimation those enemy insurgents were US soldiers.

But, nevermind that pesky little thing called reality.

rnershigh -> RE: Egyptian student pleads guilty in FL terrorism case (6/20/2008 9:23:20 AM)

Thanks for the additional information Sophie.
From that article:

In addition, Ahmed Bedier, spokesman for the Tampa chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), testified under subpoena. He told reporters that he was asked questions similar to what he would get at a press conference.

Bedier has acted as a family spokesman for the Megahed family.

Yup, there ya go.
CAIR involved, especially Bedier, you definitely know something is fishy.
I don't trust that organization, CAIR is nothing but bad news and has ties to terrorists.
They don't condemn terrorism and CAIR's whole goal in the U.S. is to push their agenda and shut people down that criticize Islam.

Congresswoman Brown-Waite of Florida letter to Ahmed Bedier about another issue unrelated to the OP:
http://blogs.tampabay.com/buzz/files/061109_response_to_mr_bediercair99.pdf

So it's pretty clear to me that there is more going on here and these students are not innocent at all.

What I want to know is what the heck they were doing all the way in S.C. when they went to school and lived in Florida with what they said was just "fireworks".
They needed to go all the way over to a S.C. beach to play with "fireworks"?
Florida beaches aren't good enough?
They just had to go all the way to S.C.?
And they just happened to be near a military installation in S.C. that had "enemy combatants".[8|]

Well thank you for posting that letter! I had never seen that before, and it is certainly interesting to say the least.

Did I call it right or what? A liberal jumping to defend the guy and trash our administration. Who'd a thunk it?

rnershigh -> RE: Egyptian student pleads guilty in FL terrorism case (6/20/2008 10:22:09 AM)

You're welcome sophie.

I think the more people realize CAIR is not a good group, the better.
They've had a few former members found guilty of association with terrorists (although they deny that of course.)
So I can't see how CAIR would have changed its colors.
It galls me that CAIR can use our own laws against us, but that is the radical Muslims way of getting at us.
To try to play the victim card and say, "woe is me" and try to point out Americans as being nothing more than bigots.
I think CAIR is just a front, used for spreading their hate and duplicity in Western countries like the U.S.
