I have never been contacted for jury duty. I wonder why that is.

Me neither

I am not a convicted felon and I am registered to vote. My sister was called once but it so happened our cousin was the judge so she was excused.

I've been called several time, but am dismissed faster than I got there. Just tell them the one charged looks quilty & out the door you will go.

Last time I was called I wrote the court a letter and told them my antique shop had been broken into 3 times in the past year and the officers who came to investigate were incompetent and I would have a very difficult time convicting anyone based on police testimony. They told me I was excused

Once when we were called in for a child molestation case, there was a police officer who had been called in as well for jury. He knew all the people involved.

They still didn't automatically excuse him...

The only one who got out of it automatically was a lady who worked for the Prosecutor...

I'm catching up in the thread.

Secret to perfect thick and juicy hamburgers (these were the size of Tony's burgers - 8 ounces):

Microwave the burgers until almost done and then put them on the grill for browning a few minutes before the guests arrive.

Mr. Cranky says THAT'S JUST WRONG!!! "There's got to be a law in Deuteronomy or somewhere that you aren't allowed to do that."

It's breaking the Dietary Law of the Grill!!!

(And I'm curious--did you really microwave them? Were they really good, or rubbery, or dried out?)

Hate to dispute Mr. cranky (and Deuteronomy)*, but they were the most tender, delicious hamburgers that I have ever eaten.

We have always had a problem getting them done on the inside without burning the outside. Since the microwave cooks inside out, they were just right on the inside, juicy, but fully cooked, with the grilled markings on the outside and and a great taste (we added just a little Dales marinade before putting them on the grill).

I suppose that y'all don't think it's right to get the potato salad and cole slaw from Food City and put it in our bowls, either.

*We consider ourselves under the New Covenant when it comes to grilling.

LOL Kerr! Nothing wrong with that at all as long as, if you are asked, you say where's it from. Otherwise, if they don't ask...don't tell.

Ellie.... ((((((Ellie)))))) Praying for you. I'm glad to read that you are still eating though. My niece experienced the no taste or tasting different when she went through radiation too. It lasted for the whole time I think but came back quite quickly after the radiation treatments were done.

When I got jury duty one of the jurors actually was a court clerk. He and I both ended up picked for a trial.

Loverly and I like to kid about ways to get out of jury duty...

"Your honor, I think the man should hang."

"This is just a civil suit."

"I don't care. I think he should hang. By his toenails."

If you had gotten your cole slaw from KFC, I wouldn't mind.

Oh Wise Professor Kerrlaw,

When you have to appear in court, do you have an item with you for "superstitious" reasons? I was thinking of baseball players who wear the same socks or the same undies or have a piece of jewelry, etc. for superstitious reasons during games.

I am not superstitious at all, and don't have any specific things that I wear to court. I do always wear my Mickey Mouse watch and my law school class ring, but I wear them all the time anyway.

I like using things that I've had for a long time. Cindy gave me the watch 20 years ago and I've worn it every day since. It is the Seiko anniversary edition Mickey. I have a Cross mechanical pencil that I have used on an almost daily basis for over 30 years. Once, I thought that I had lost it, but found it in a file months later.

I grew up on KFC cole slaw (aunt and uncle ran two stores) and it's good, but my favorite cole slaw is Long John Silvers.

A local man has started a campaign to bring a Costco to the Knoxville area. People are signing petitions online.

Does anyone know anything about Costco?

It seems to be just another version of Sam's Club. It is a membership type store like Sams.

They are a membership club warehouse, similar to Sam's or BJ's. Usually have a gas station attached.

I still prefer my mother's or my mother-in-law's...if all else fails...then mine will do in a pinch.

COSTCO

It's a beautiful place.

I love our Costco. I shop there probably once a week.

Here are the things I typically buy:

all our meat
dry goods like toilet paper, paper towels, etc.
printer paper
some canned goods
excellent chicken broth
olive oil
pasta

It is a great place! And, the employees there are very happy. They have the same employees for a long time and I know the benefits are good. It's just a happy place!

Kerr, my other (local) message board is buzzing about the Costco petition. Some of our newer East TN transplants say Costco offers more types of merchandise than Sams Club does.

Well my boss, the attorney, owns stock in COSTCO so I know he would appreciate it if you joined in the petition, got the COSTCO, and spend lots of money there.

Oh, I just thought of another good reason to have one here in town.

It's not a Wal-Mart.

We don't have a costco. Of course, I don't have room to store stuff bought in bulk, thus I do not have a Sams club membership either.

My post above was a thought after reading your post saying Costco is clean.
