Yep, my Wii has died. And that's never a good thing to say in life.

As of today, I mourn the loss of the primary family member in my geekitude life. My Wii has not only left the building, but it burned it down and laughed on the way out.

Apparently, power outages cause your Wii's power supply to eventually fail. I'm quite confident I've had my system over a year, and its been through a fair share of thunderstorms and power outages, but never has weather conditions or electrical failures caused the power to slip into comatose and die.

Why did this have to happen six days before Rock Band was released for the Wii?!?! [sm=crystreams.gif]

Ouch, that's rough. Maybe I ought to get that APC I've been thinking of getting and plug the Wii into it. Hmm.

On a side note: My Wii has basically been a Dr. Mario Rx machine ever since that released on WiiWare. Good times in the Wiimote control mode.

Using my Christ-likeness, I was able to resurrect it. I had to remove all the electrical wires from the outlets for about two minutes or so, and I cleaned out the vents in the meantime. I was surprised to see a red light when I reapplied the AC adapter and plugged it in.

It's been on a surge protector since forever. I assumed it would be safe from any damage concerning electrical failures. I was wrong, apparently.

How much longer than a year? You can get a... 90-day? extension on the warranty by registering your Wii at Nintendo.com.

I feel for you. My Wii didn't completely die, but it did need to be repaired (graphical corruption). Luckily mine was still under warranty.
