ORIGINAL: Starbucks880 Sorry, I don't agree with it at all. If I have a 12 million estate, I shoudl be able to do what I want with it and if I would rather give my cat money than my family, I should be allowed that. Her grandkids must have done something to make her really angry if she would rather give it all to her dog than them. I don't necesarily think she was mentally unfit either--many accounts say how much she loved that dog and did more than most people would for any one animal, so it isn't far fetched what she did. It is just the kids who thought they would get money that would get them set for life and then bitter that they didn't get it. I don't think that just because you are family you deserve a cut of the estate. I am curious why she cut her family out, though. I still don't think they shoudl get a dime. You know, this is the first thing I thought when I read the story too. I disagree with the family getting money when it goes against the will. I disagree with a judge being able to overturn someone's will, period, but especially to overturn it and award the money to folks who were purposefully not to get anything. BUT, I do think leaving that money to a dog is crazy, so I can understand the judge saying she was mentally unfit to make that decision. I just think that the judge should have awarded the money to some charity or charities, and not to family members who are only bitter and greedy to be suing for this money in the first place.
