Say I mention to someone about Mr Hagee saying that the reason for Katrina and wreck it caused on New Orleans was because of the gays and lesbians. He told me that in a certian Catholicpublishment that before Katrina hit. That God was going to punish New Orleans because of the sin factor. I am wondering if any of you had read or heard about the article yourself?

No I haven't heard of that. There are those who try to translate any large event in something that had to be designed by God and try to assign a purpose to it that suits them.

Think about the huge area of the Gulf Coast that was damaged. Think of the farm crop losses up into Alabama and Mississippi; trees in MS were laid over like matchsticks; months of suffering for all those in the rural areas along the coast.

Did you see the Mississippians meeting for church in the space where their church, now demolished, had stood?

I wouldn't buy into it.

rcjames -> RE: Before Katrina (6/16/2008 2:00:57 PM)

I do not have a clue for the reasons for Katrina, except for weathern patters.

Although God did destroy Sodom and Gomorrah for them giving the city over to homosexuality.

Thanks
RC

Katrina did not stop or destroy the most sinful area of New Orleans. It destroyed the lives and homes and churches of the honest and hard working Christians there. Most of the sinful activities are by tourists who visit and let go of their inhibitions. People are fairly conservative outside of the tourist areas as far as wild living goes here.

StephK -> RE: Before Katrina (6/16/2008 2:11:46 PM)

Why is it just New Orleans getting accused of being under God's judgment when the year and a half before Florida got hit how many times? I live in the Rita direct impact zone and know the majority of people affected are regular hard working Christians who lost everything they owned. I also have seen God working in the recovery with the generosity of other believers.

Ps103 -> RE: Before Katrina (6/16/2008 2:14:40 PM)

I would take anything Hagee says with a grain dose of salts.

tracydolls -> RE: Before Katrina (6/16/2008 3:06:24 PM)

Since we are all sinners, we should all be getting hit , right?

Luk 13:1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
Luk 13:2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
Luk 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Luk 13:4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
Luk 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

LBolt -> RE: Before Katrina (6/16/2008 3:13:32 PM)

I honestly believe that America right now is experiencing the judgement of God partially. I'm under the belief that things don't just happen, especially catastrophic events such as Katrina, Rita, Iowa, the forest fires in California, the Trade Center attacks, the economy...Even in judgement God is still merciful.

I agree with your post Tracydolls!

I can say with confidence my dogs have a better grasp of scipture than does Hagee.

Ps103 -> RE: Before Katrina (6/16/2008 4:08:56 PM)

My pug may not understand Scripture, but at least his heart is pure and he is not running some weird agenda[;)]

My cats have just raised their paws and ditto'd that.

earthless -> RE: Before Katrina (6/16/2008 4:15:21 PM)

John Hagee is not to be taken seriously. Unfortunately, the secular world sees him as a representation of Christianity as a whole.

StephK -> RE: Before Katrina (6/16/2008 4:21:36 PM)

I do have to say that God does have a sense of humor in a way. The church I was a member of that had to move to a better part of town and spent $10+ million on a new facility got millions of dollars worth of damage while the old campus had zero damage. In fact FEMA used it as a staging ground for relief. [:D]

PressingUpward -> RE: Before Katrina (6/16/2008 8:06:01 PM)

Just to throw a new slant on this 'judgement' of Katrina thing, what if it is up to the Body
of Christ to take authority over the winds (as Jesus set the example) and to stop these things?

John Hagee is our brother. He has the same Father as we do, and our Father can take care of His
son His own way. Hagee is not ours to judge. Pray for Him. (Him, being our Father who has many children whom need dealt with.)

His teachings are for every Christian to judge in light of Scripture. And his teachings and prophecies fail the biblical test.

Peter_Gunn -> RE: Before Katrina (6/16/2008 9:46:00 PM)

Reminds me of the passage where Jesus healed the blind man and the disciples asked, "Who sinned...him or his parents?" And Jesus said it was neither, but so God's glory could be shown.

Think of the way people (many of them church groups) rallied around New Orleans after Katrina. Could that be a way of showing God's glory?

mcleod -> RE: Before Katrina (6/17/2008 2:06:06 PM)

rcjames,

quote:

Although God did destroy Sodom and Gomorrah for them giving the city over to homosexuality.

Not to be rude but what the scriptures say are that in Ezekiel 16 beginning in verse 49-50 it states: Now this sin of your sister Sodom; She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detesable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.
I enjoyed your responces to my statement about Mr. Hagee.
But you guys and gals have not answered my one question in regards to the catholic paper, which was to been published before the mighty wind and rain appeared. please anyone else know about that?

Mac--are you saying that Hagee referred to a "Catholic paper" that prophesied Katrina, or that you quoted Hagee to someone and *they* made reference to a "Catholic paper?"

Just what you wrote in the last part of it. That they had made a reference to the article in the paper. In fact he mention the paper name" catholic something". Which I forgot the last name and thought maybe seeing there are a lot of people in this forum. Who know a lot about these types of things. Could have heard about it also.

Ps103 -> RE: Before Katrina (6/17/2008 7:26:40 PM)

Well, I tried to google it, and really came up with nothing. There were some Catholic blogs that popped up, but the were all after the fact.

I did get a couple of hits for articles about Hagee's backing off his statements about the Catholic Church, and in the same articles it quoted his saying that Katrina was God's judgement on New Orleans (guess those poor folk outside NO were just collateral damage or something).

But nothing *prior* to Katrina.

Did you ask your friend where you could read this paper he was quoting?

mcleod -> RE: Before Katrina (6/17/2008 8:19:27 PM)

Ps103, no I didn't and I am going to give him a call tomorrow to get what he actual said to me. I thank you for trying to find it. It would give catholics a heads up on some of us reformers[:)]

StephK -> RE: Before Katrina (6/17/2008 9:05:02 PM)

What about when Galveston got hit in 1906 where thousands were killed including some nuns and orphans? Or in 1957 when Audrey hit Cameron Parish killing hundreds of good and hard working decent people? Or when Camille slammed into Mississippi? Hurricanes are part of nature along the gulf coast. I've read that the continental shelf and the angle the storm hits is what pushes the storm surge higher between East Texas and Alabama.

wintery -> RE: Before Katrina (6/18/2008 10:23:17 AM)

Ya'll may not realize the remnants of Katrina, actually the hurricane on land, made it here to NW AL and ripped a big satellite dish out of its moorings in the building I work in, allowing water on the roof to pour into someone's office. Nope, wasn't mine. But did that guy need judging? Hmmm....
