The most ridiculous waste of money & film - Dr. T & the Women. It doesn't need an explanation. It speaks for itself. k

For me one of the stupidest was "Forrest Gump". A really close second would be "Being John Malkovich" (the one where John Cusak gets inside Johns head) and a close third would have to be all the idiot-teen-sex movies they come out with lately. A close fourth are all the horror/slasher movies. None of the teen sex movies or slasher movies have absolutely no redeeming value.

Nothing but Trouble- Demi Moore and Chevy Chase....way bad and way stupid but the airconditioning in the theater was great that I fell asleep.

Oh wow, yeah I forgot about that one! It was just plain awful!

I also thought that Mars Attacks stunk too, however from what I heard, the movie was supposed to be a spoof, so I guess I should not take it too seriously at all.

BTW, a real lot of remakes are just plain dreadful too! Remember the sequals to all those Police Academy movies? They lost their touch about the 4th or 5th one, with the 6th one just being droll.

Then there was Jaws III as well.

Not only is it ridiculous but it's completely not indicative of the people in Dallas, Texas where I spent my first 39 years of life. Are there some poeple like that living there? Probably -- as there is in just about every city. But movies like that irk me because sadly too many are so ignorant about how they think of places they've never been and just receive something like that as really representative of the people there. Same thing with shows like Dallas. Talk about not representative of the city of Dallas? Not even close.

Napolean Dynamite was one of my favourite comedy movies of all time!! It's right up there for me with other classic comedies like Princess Bride and Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail. But I've also found that ND is one of those movies you either love or hate... ;)

I think it's one of those movies that mostly requires you to have a certain frame of reference. I don't hate it, and I'm not crazy about it either. It's got some really funny moments. But one of my all time favorites? No, there are many in front of it.

Yeah, I agree with you about most everyone either loving it or hating it. I remember someone saying "This is either the worst movie ever made or the most brilliant, but I haven't figured out which it is yet." For me, it's the worst. haha! But I do end up saying "GOSH!" and "Tina, EAT THE FOOD!" every now and then. If it had any redeeming value whatsoever is that it's great for joking around with friends.

And for the record, Princess Bride totally pwns Napolean Dynamite.

Please do not put Napolean Dynamite & Princess Bride/Monty Python in the same category.

Harry Potter--any movie with kids flying around on brooms is pretty stupid!

Well, perhaps not as stupid as any Steven Seagal production.

These are the first two movies that came to mind as I was reading the thread S.T.U.P.I.D and somehow, sadly, I knew that someone, somewhere would disagree!!!

I was going to say that. But I still love Napoleon Dynamite. And I've been saying "freakin" since it came out.

But I guess the other pointless movie is "Dude, Where's My Car?"

I often wonder when threads like this open up how some people view movies when their intent is to be "dumb" like the Austin Powers movies, I mean in a sense they are supposed to be somewhat slapstickish movies? And the Wayne's World movies. They are funny when you lose all perspective on what a "good story" is supposed to be. Well, sorry, just my "It's Monday already" rant of the week.

The stupidest movie IMHO would have to be Taledega Nights. It was meant to be a comedy but I cried during the movie because I couldn't believe that I paid for that???

I liked Napolean Dynamite. Not enough to proselytize or quote it (like some).

The theme of the movie was summed up in the first lines spoken.

Kid on bus:Whatcha going to do today?

N. D.: Duh. Whatever I want. (throws action figure out window to drag behind bus)

Some people thought it was cruel to kids that are different. Honestly, I saw it as being a very silly and very affirming look at 'dorks' 'dweebs' 'losers' or whatever they call them now just being themselves, finding friendship, discovering their passions, and learning not to worry about what other people think.

That's it. It did have an arc and a plot (although a loose, episodic one) and I found most of the characters very endearing.

You mean you didn't enjoy the impossibly enormous shark and the indistinguishable 3-D effects in Jaws III????

Yes, as if that wasn't bad enough, they waded out even farther and made one final, miserable last attempt...that is Jaws IV.

I didn't know there was a Jaws IV either -- especially when Jaws III was definitely nukin' the fridge.
